Ya know, these SAW films get a lot of heat from people who call them torture-porn, stupid, mindless violence, etc… I have to disagree. Not all the films work, and there are flaws, but overall the franchise suffers more from being over-plotted, ponderous and filled with exposition, back-story. They’re not exactly dumb films with murder for murders sake.
I think people in general hate what they perceive SAW to represent, rather than how the franchise fails on the merits of cinema storytelling.
I’d rather watch something like SAW or HOSTEL, than some dumb American comedy with Adam Sandler trying to fool us into thinking everything’s OK.

Longshanks–I agree with you 100% BUT at least these nay sayers have at least seen some of the films. Try having an intelligent discussion with the ppl who hate Twilight and everything connected with it who haven’t even picked up the book or seen the movie! It’s ridiculous!

I don’t mind a good rousing heated discussion with someone who’s at least familiar with the subject they are most vehemently arguing against.

I AM getting defensive,but not upset.

Yes,I do like this franchise,and I just wanted to illustrate that they ARE more than what most people think they are.Also,I just get a little ticked when people say how “stupid” the series is when they’ve only seen the first 2 or 3 movies.How do you know how stupid it is if you haven’t seen them all?

If you just don’t like them,that’s fine,but not liking something and just calling them stupid without seeing them all is just silly thinking to me.

I’m not into the subject matter of Harry Potter,but I wouldn’t say that it’s stupid,because I haven’t seen any of them.That would be ignorant thinking on my part.So I just can’t get behind anyone who calls these movies “stupid”,that haven’t seen all of them.I can except it if someone says,”I saw the first three movies,and I just didn’t like them”(or look at 790′s comment above),but I just read too many comment that are like,”the first movie was good,the second movie sucked,so I stopped watching them.They are making Saw 6?Man This franchise is stupid”.*stupid even though they have only seen half of the films*

I’m not trying to justify liking these movies,I’m just flat out telling you why I like them.And (‘m not trying to make them out to be more than what they are,I think I’m telling you EXACTLY what they are,and people who’ve seen them all and actually like them would probably say the same thing.

Hehe, no need to get defensive Longshanks, I like plenty of stupid movies just because they’re entertaining in their own stupid way. You don’t have to try to make them out to be more than they are to justify why you like them…

I thought the first three Saw films were pretty good as a horror trilogy. After watching the fourth film I had enough,,, The story lost its steam when Jiggy started to control events from beyond the grave.

I have to admit the poster with the nurse and the blood filled syringes looks pretty intense….

Look,it’s a friggin’ movie,not a college course.If you don’t like the twists that come at the end of each movie,then oh well,just move on.I care because I want to be entertained,plain and simple.I like the intertwining of characters and plot points.If you can’t see that,then these obviously just aren’t your type of movies.

Even though there is a very good amount of blood,guts,and gore,there is so much more to these movies.

I know, but why do we care if it’s not teaching the viewers anything? So ultimately the only thing you actually get out of them is the gore if you’re not getting any of the lessons… So if you look at the net result instead of the gross, calling it torture porn (although never the way I worded it) isn’t exactly inaccurate…

People who rip on the Saw franchise always crack me up,because they obviously haven’t seen them all(yes I’m talking to you ogb) to label them as just “torture porn”.

If you were to pay attention to all of the movies,you would know that there is always a lesson that is being taught.Albeit,a sick and twisted one,but a lesson nonetheless.

The other thing I really appreciate about these movies,is how all of the movies directly or indirectly intersect each other,giving then an actual lore,instead of just one kill fest after another.

There has actually been a lot of thought that has gone into making these movies connect and intertwine each other,so to say that they are stupid is just a stupid comment to make,imo.If you don’t like the material that’s presented,I respect that,because these just might not be your type of movies,but to say these are “stupid”,or “pathetic”,or any other adjective to describe people’s dislike for these movie,well that’s just silly to me.
