The official poster and trailer for The Time Traveler’s Wife, starring Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams, has been released by New Line Cinema. The story, which is part sci-fi part romance, features Bana and McAdams as a husband and wife whose marriage is on the rocks due to Bana’s inability to stop himself from traveling through time.
Take a look at the poster after the jump…

Because I am a loyal and loving boyfriend, I often find myself stuck watching a number of bad romantic comedies and sappy dramas. Usually during these times, I let my mind wander onto more exciting topics like: Who will play the Green Lantern? Will we get to see another Christopher Nolan-directed Batman film? And so on and so forth.
The Time Traveler’s Wife, however, with its quality talent and unconventional plot, seemed like it could be okay. Unfortunately, the film’s poster doesn’t leave much to be desired. It just seems so… generic. Couldn’t we get something with a little more pizazz? This is a movie about a man who travels through time after all. The trailer did little to ease my reservations. It seems very heavy on romance and very light on sci-fi. Check it out for yourself below.
I like Eric Bana, and Rachel McAdams is one of my favorite current Hollywood actresses, but that trailer was boring with a capital B. Hopefully there will be another trailer which addresses some of the sci-fi elements of this story a little more clearly. Then again, maybe I’m just being too harsh? I haven’t read the book on which the movie is based, so if anyone out there has and wants to offer a different opinion, please feel free to leave a comment.
The Time Traveler’s Wife is slated for release on August 14, 2009.

Let me first say that I am a died in the wool Sci-Fi addict. That would explain why I read the novel. The title put me off…
Having said that, The Time Travellers Wife turned out to be one of my favourite books due to the way in which it was written, it just sort of sucks you in.
No, there’s not much of a Sci-Fi element… Don’t let the title fool you into thinking that. This is probably going to be a ‘Chick Flick’ guys, but I’m given how much I enjoyed the book, I won’t be letting that put me off. Hopefully they can do a decent job translating it to screen.
Guess we’ll see.
I coulnt help but wonder if the people behind this were
fans of the Christopher Reeve film Somewhere in Time.
@Gary
It sure has that vibe, doesn’t it? I wouldn’t expect a heck of a whole lot of sci-fi in this.

@Gary
That’s the name of the film I was trying to remember: Somewhere in Time. Yeah, that movie was %99 romantic drama and %1 sci-fi. Was acted well but bored me.
Jay801….You nailed it..If your looking for sci-fi, you will have to look hard. It’s more of a romance/drama book. I too was drawn into reading it by the title, and found I could not stop reading.

So do you recommend the book much?
Holy crap that looks lame!! Is this another god awful “Lake House”?
So let me get this straight…the guy is a pedophile who stalks the girl until she is old enough to bang without him getting arrested?
@ Iron Knight. Definitely recommend the book. Just don’t be expecting much sci-fi.
@jk90. Umm… No. It sort of works the other way around, but without giving anything away it’s a little difficult to explain.
I agree it works the other way but saying more would give too much away, I am currently reading this book and I have to say its one of the best novels I have ever read,I cant wait for the movie I just hope it does the book justice.
This is about as interesting as watching bamboo grow in a swamp while being exsanguinated by mosquitos…
I find the concept interesting, but I have to say that it’s not what I would want out of a story about a time-traveler’s relationship with a spouse. The time travel here strikes me as much more of an uncontrolled element (which gives the writer lots of dramatic control). Can’t say I’d watch this one, but I can see why it would appeal to others.
sorry guys, it’s a love story…no cool special effects, light sabers, super heroes,aliens,wizards, capes or tights…just a love story whose leading man pops in and out without rhyme or reason..and the woman who loves him anyway…it’s a brilliant story….even if Yoda is not there…give it a try..
No cool special effects, light sabers, super heroes, aliens, wizards, capes or tights…??
Then why even bother? LOL
This is Journey Man with more crying.
