[quote]Street Fighter is based on the classic and once-super-popular Capcom video game franchise of the same name. [\quote]

WTH???? That game is a classic! It will ALWAYS be popular! ask guys like me who spend $20 in quarters playing when i was a kid.

Rob Keyes says:

lol Homer,

Once popular as in no one plays it now – The games have been dead for a long time. It will be popular next year for sure with the release of #4.

Gary says:

I always thought it was sad that Street Fighter was Raul Julias last role.

Gary says:

OOPS! Raul Julias Last FILM!

You obviously have no idea what you’re talking about. Do a little more research before typing statements like this next time. I could point to various (and obvious) forms of proof against your ignorant post, but you seem like a smart boy that knows how to use Google. Only next time, Google FIRST.

Guys, this is a site for OPINIONS, and Rob gave his. If I said that silent films were dead, does that mean no one watches silent films anymore? Of course not. The first Street Fighter game was very popular, and some people still play it today, but you have to agree that it doesn’t have the same popularity (in fact not even close) to what it was before. I’ve been seeing a lot of these attacks lately on the writers and all they are doing is giving their opinions. Let’s cut them some slack…please.

Now, about the poster….she doesn’t look like she could kick my butt from this poster. I would have had a poster showing her performing her famous kick (the only move I could use to beat my son in the game).

Rob Keyes says:

Neuco,

Calm down buddy. I’m a gamer who owns most of the consoles and I’m active on several gaming sites.

I’m sorry if you still play street fighter games frequently and that this may have hurt personally – but you’re one of the few.

It’s a joke that I even have to explain this, but do you follow gaming news and ratings at all? Prior to Street Fighter 4 previews and announcements and mentions of the the arcade downloads for XBL and PSN, there’s been no (as in none at all) talk of street fighter on any gaming site in years and years.

Whereas in the late 80s and moreso in the early 90s, EVERYONE who played games played Street Fighter. It was the Halo of the industry back when games were not mainstream and it was on all the ancient systems. Everyone played it, everyone talked about it. Van Damme even got a movie about it, hehe.

Thanks for the “smart boy” compliment though :)

Just to clarify again, when street fighter 2 came out (which is still capcom’s best selling game ever), it was in the top 5. Has any street fighter been in the top 100 games of any of the last 5 years for example? Oh, SF2 was on the SNES which came out nearly 2 decades ago.

SIN187UM says:

Looks as about as exciting as the upcoming DragonBall movie, and by that I mean not very exciting. Also a gamer and game design student. Street Fighter is not dead, and at many gaming conferences SF2 is still brought up for tourneys. Personally I would rather play old school SF than some of these new fighting games today, but graphically SF is behind the times and will be interesting to see what it looks like with SF IV in 2009. With that said graphics and special effects aren’t everything in games or film.

Ninjacheese says:

Just so you guys know, Street Fighter III: Third Strike, is still extremely popular, in fact it’s one of the games that’s still at EVO.

For those of you who don’t know what that is, it’s the worlds largest fighting game tournament.

As for the role, I just don’t think she can match Chun-Li’s form. She just isn’t muscular enough. And if she doesn’t have buns, I’m gonna be angry.

Robhiengler says:

Well guess the predictions were proved right. Was it possible to make a Street Fighter film lamer than the 1994 JC version – yes and they did it.

Chun-Li spinning bird kick looked like a 60’s lame disco move – we even had a shot of a spinning bird pendant to tell us what it was: because they all knew people would be going wtf is that lame move!?

Somewhere along the line they also got mixed up between the hadoken and kikosho. The kikosho isn’t a flying ball ball of chi but an energy palm blast – anyway rant over the movie was shite.
