Fans of the Pokemon fighting game Pokken Tournament may soon get their hands on a remake of the popular Wii U title on the Nintendo Switch. It's been suggested for a while that a Pokemon game would eventually make it to the Nintendo Switch, with Pokemon Stars being one such rumored possibility. However, it's currently unclear if that game will be released for the Switch or the Nintendo 3DS.

Released on the Wii U in March of 2016, Pokken Tournament is a fighting game where two Pokemon clash in one-on-one battles. Playable characters include Pikachu, Charizard, Mewtwo, and Blaziken. The mechanics are based off the Tekken series of fighting games. One of the game's most notable features is its online play. The game received positive reviews following its release but has also been hit with criticism for its lack of DLC for the Wii U.

The rumor of a Pokken Tournament remake began to circulate after Serebii reported that a Japanese blog, Senobi, known to be a trusted source for Pokemon news, posted details about a new arcade stick for the Nintendo Switch. According to the blog post, one of the titles that can be played with the arcade stick is Pokken Tournament. The post has since been rewritten, but Nintendo has yet to confirm or deny the rumor.

The arcade version of Pokken Tournament has added many new characters, including Scizor, Empoleon, and Darkrai. Unfortunately, fans who only play the Wii U version are unable to gain access to the new content. Fans are hoping that a new Nintendo Switch version would finally make those characters available to console gamers.

Nintendo Switch

Pokken Tournament was highly successful for the Wii U, so it makes sense for Nintendo to re-release it on another platform, especially when that platform is their newest console. Pokken Tournament wouldn't be the first Wii U title to get an enhanced port for the Nintendo Switch. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was released on April 28 with all the DLC from the Wii U version, along with exclusive content for the Switch.

Though a blog post isn't enough to confirm that a remake of the game is on its way, many fans believe that if there's any truth to the rumor, an announcement for Pokken Tournament will be made at E3 2017. Nintendo is already expected to make several announcements at E3 for other upcoming titles such as Super Mario Odyssey.

E3 will be held between June 13 to June 15 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
