Volo and Giratina one of the final challenges in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. While Pokémon games have begun to ramp up the difficulty on recent titles, Pokémon Legends: Arceus takes the cake. It's commonplace for trainers to have their entire team faint, forcing them to flee with their tails between their legs. However, after completing the main story and defeating either Palkia or Dialga, the world of Hisui begins to open up more. New legendary Pokémon will spawn, and an entirely new post-game story will begin.

Trainers are pushed to capture all the Pokémon in the Hisui region and collect every Arceus Plate in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. These are Key Items responsible for changing the typing of Arceus to one of the 18 possible options. Volo will be assisting the player with their quest, providing helpful tips on the locations of each plate. Finally, after collecting 17 plates, Volo will request to meet the player at the top of Mount Coronet. But, instead, he will be waiting in the Temple of Sinnoh for possibly the toughest Pokémon battle in the game.

As a surprise, it turns out Volo wants to use the Arceus Plates to meet the Diety Pokémon itself. With the player collecting the remaining 17 plates, this battle will determine who will obtain them all. This battle is broken up into three different phases. While regular Pokémon battles are typically 6-vs-6, Volo cheats by having eight Pokémon in total. Before starting this fight, make sure to disable autosave. If the player loses, all the resources they used during the battle will disappear with autosave on. These are all of Volo's Pokémon.

Defeating Volo in Pokémon Legends: Arceus

Volo will always open the battle with a Spiritomb.

  • Spiritomb: Weak to Fairy-type attacks.
  • Lucario: Weak to Fighting-, Ground-, and Fire-type attacks.
  • Garchomp: Weak to Ice-, Dragon-, and Fairy-type attacks.
  • Roserade: Weak to Flying-, Fire-, Psychic-, and Ice-type attacks.
  • Hisuian Arcanine: Weak to Fighting-, Ground-, Rock-, and Water-type attacks.
  • Togekiss: Weak to Poison-, Rock-, Steel-, Electric-, and Ice-type attacks.

After defeating his initial team, the second part of the fight will begin. This time, trainers will need to defeat Giratina in Pokémon Legends: Arceus twice. After defeating it in its Altered form, the game will fake out the player, and it will heal and transform into its Origin form.

  • Giratina Altered Form: Weak to Ghost-, Ice, Dragon-, Dark-, and Fairy-type attacks.
  • Giratina Origin Form: Weak to Ghost-, Ice-, Dragon-, Dark-, and Fairy-type attacks.

It's highly recommended to have a team of level 75 Pokémon or higher before starting this battle. Craft as many Max Revives and Full Restores as possible to heal during critical moments of the battle. Trainers can also use grits to power up their Pokémon's stats further. Alternatively, it's possible to purchase Rare Candy from Jubilife Village for a steep price. There are several ways to get money fast in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, so collecting the required funds shouldn't take too long. After the battle is over, Volo will reward the player with the Spooky Plate. This is the final mission before trainers are tasked with hunting all the Pokémon. Completing it will reward trainers with the chance to find Arceus itself in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
