The costume event Pokémon for this year’s Pokémon GO Fest has leaked ahead of the festival, and players aren’t impressed with how they look. This leak comes just a month away from the launch of the event when these Pokémon will be made available.

Pokémon GO Fest has been held for several years in the lifespan of the game. The first Pokémon GO Fest in 2017 was a disaster due to connection issues, but last year’s Pokémon GO Fest had made the most amount of money for the game since its launch in 2016. The event also added a variety of shinies to the game, as well as the victory Pokémon Victini. This year’s Pokémon GO Fest will also debut shinies, and tickets can be purchased from the in-game store for $4.99.

On TheSilphRoad subreddit, user TrollyBellosom posted a screenshot of the costumes to drop through this year’s Pokémon GO Fest from a YouTube ad. The screenshot shows Galarian Ponyta, Zigzagoon, Gardevoir, and Flygon with small cream-colored hats. The reception to these costumes has been unwelcoming from many players due to the lack of effort put into these costumes, with one top comment saying “I expected nothing and I’m still disappointed.” Another posted “Sorry but that looks pretty bad even by Niantic standards.”

Pokémon GO has a variety of costumed Pokémon into the game. Some are meant to celebrate holidays, such as Halloween Pikachu having a witch hat or Christmas Pikachu having a Santa hat. Others have accessories like party hats, and some Pokémon like armored Mewtwo are especially unique. Some costumed Pokémon like Pikachu can evolve with their accessories, while others are stuck in their base form and can’t evolve. It’s unknown if the Ponyta and Zigzagoon will be able to evolve in the same manner as the fully evolved Flygon and Gardevoir, which is why some fans worry about being able to have an unevolved shiny Galarian Ponyta or Zigzagoon stuck with a hat.

The Pokémon GO Fest will reveal in due time whether or not these Pokémon will be able to evolve or not in a similar manner to sunglasses Squirtle. But regardless, even if they do evolve, these hats don’t do much to distinguish them from their normal counterparts. Even other costumes like witch hat Pikachu stand out more in their designs. But these Pokémon will still be valued collectibles to add to player’s collections regardless, and they will be widely available when the Pokémon GO Fest starts next month through July 17th through 18th.
