‘X-Men Origins: Magneto’ Plot Revealed

Published 5 years ago by

magnus X Men Origins: Magneto Plot RevealedIn August, Screen Rant reported that David Goyer would be writing and directing the upcoming Magneto spinoff film. The movie reportedly would take place before the X-Men trilogy and would center around the origins of none other than our favorite magnetism magician.

Last week, The Geek Files department of the Coventry Telegraph received the official plot synopsis and here are some key parts:

“The original X-Men film began with a prologue that showed the character as a child being led to a concentration camp by Nazis and that is the period in which the Magneto film will take place. This setup will allow a future villain to at least flirt with the designation of protagonist since the character will be seen almost exclusively in his formative years.”

It sounds as if Magneto grows up to combat the Nazis and this story would definitely explain how he has come to hate and fear the idea of mutants being discriminated against as he and his family were in concentration camps as a child. The synopsis continues:

“The storyline will heavily involve Professor X, the wheelchair-using X-Men leader. That character was a soldier in the allied force that liberated the concentration camps. The professor meets Magneto after the war and while they bond over the realization that they are alike in their special powers, their differences soon turn them into enemies.”

Although digital re-aging was utilized in X-Men: The Last Stand to make Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart appear many years younger, the studio will have to use younger stars to play the two lead roles. My hopes are that the two actors still have a cameo or guest appearance in the film by including flash-forwards so we can see them and their relationship as they are older but before they split, as we saw in the flashback in X3: The Last Stand.

I like the idea but it’s far too early to say. Goyer, who wrote a draft of the script earlier this year is busy on other projects for the foreseeable future and Fox is completely focused on X-Men Origins: Wolverine at the moment. Apparently, Fox has no plans going forward for another X-Men or Fantastic Four film but does have interest in a Silver Surfer spinoff. The article explains that if that’s the case, they have to have it completed by 2012 because the film rights return to Marvel after that.

If that’s true, I’m excited. The more Marvel property under Marvel’s control, the better.

What do you think of a Magneto-centric film?

X-Men Origins: Wolverine hits theaters May 1st, 2009 but there is not yet a projected release date for X-Men Origins: Magneto.

  1. I don’t really want to see a Magneto film to be honest. I would much rather they focused their attention on getting another X-Men movie off the ground, a spin off may work for Wolverine but it’s just not going to work for Magneto.

  2. They could pull this off real well but I personally like it when someone’s back story has some mystery to it. The first few minutes of the first X-Men only gave us the idea of what Magneto went through and let us fill in the gaps.

  3. I love that they are going through with this. The holocaust is a dark strong subject to make a movie about, adding something like superpowers will make it all the more interesting.

  4. I think it’s a good idea.
They’re doing it with Wolverine, why not the same with Magneto? Both set in and around the time of WWII.

  5. …Whatever they do they better do it quick.

Sir Ian turns 70 this next May!

  6. That de-aging thing Ratner used in Last Stand: the first shot of Xavier when he gets out of the car in front of the Gray’s house…… god that’s horrible…. looks like PS2 videogame graphics.

  7. MAgneto – guess I’ll see it just depends …

As far as Silver Surfer, I hope it doesn’t get anywhere near a theater until Marvel gets it back and can do it right.

  8. This sounds pretty intresting. I just hope they dont dissapoint us like they did in the Last Stand.

  9. Agreed Jess, The Last Stand was the most disappointing movie for me.

  10. Of all the characters in the X-men universe, they choose Magneto to make a movie about? He’s a great villian in the comics but a two hour movie seems a bit much. Sounds like a great idea……for a one shot comic!

  11. Personally I am more excited about a Magneto film then a Wolverine film at this point.
    Great chracter .
with the combination of the right director and a good cast and script ,
    You never know .

  12. Rob,,,
Here’s my pitch to Stan Lee
    ^
The nazis have young Magnet in an all wood cell, the nazis are experimenting on him… They try a treatment on him and it makes him 10x more powerfull,,, let’s just say the nazis don’t learn from there mistake because there all dead. All but one, the Psi Nazi?, he escapes and Magneto goes after him. He teams up with Xavier as they capture Psi Nazi, something big happens that starts the rift between them…

This will be a emotional “dark” trip back to WW2 as we see the origins of one of the most powerfull X-Men ever,,,!!!

Were looking to get Wentworth Miller as Magnet !!!

  13. @ Gary

Me too Magneto was always one of my favorite characters in the x-men series so im definatly looking forward to this one.

  14. @790

Thats really good but wasnt the rift between Xavier and Magneto caused because of how each of them handled the kids. correct me if im wrong.

  15. Thanks Jess,
Honestly I don’t know the origin of the rift between Xavier and Magneto…

  16. I can’t see Wentworth Miller as Magneto personally. Either way though, I think it’s a cool film idea if done in the correct style. That intro to the first X-men film was awesome.

  17. Lol Rob, looking back I must have been drinking when I typed that. Haha.

  18. totally agree with article, magneto is sweet and marvel getting rights back is sweet

  19. Totaly agreed Jimmy. They have done a terrible job with the X-Men franchise so give it back to the people who actually know how to do it right.

No prob 790 but im not even sure if im right :) lol

  20. lol 790, that’s okay bud

  21. Magneto is one of my all-time favorite characters in comic books of other wise and I can’t believe how some people don’t realize how crazy sick a Magneto movie could be. Also is the movie official going to get made or are the studios waiting to see what happens with X-Men Origins: Wolverine first. Either way I really hope a Magneto movie gets made and done right.

  22. I think it’s a good idea. It’s like when they did the Star War movies. Finding out what happened prior to everything. And hopefully it’ll be successful.

  23. If they used this film to introduce Captain America, I think that would be incredible. He does, after all, with Wolverine, save Magneto. They are already creating a travesty with the Wolverine film, making Victor Creed Wolverine’s brother, rather than father. I hope they don’t screw the the plots TOO much further. I know they probably will, but changing Sabertooth from father to sibling is just ridiculous.

  24. so magneto and charles are friends all the way up to after they create the school for gifted youngsters as showen in x3. so we know they will not be really fighting each other in the magneto film professor-x will use his mind trick against magneto and then magneto will make his helmet to protect himself.apocalypse could be brought in to fight the two as a super strong mutant the only one i can think that everyone would love to see.

  25. @Noah

I agree they never should have made Creed Wolverine’s bother, but what gives you the idea its his father. They have made it clear in the comics he isn’t either. Just curious if I’ve missed something along the way.

Magneto has the potential to be the best comic book movie to date. It should start at the same point the start from Xmen 1…maybe even start with the same scene. through flash backs…the main story should be Erik and charles friendship from start to finish. Meeting, discovering powers, starting the school, the disagreements, friendship ending. Well to be honest i think the perfect movie would be a trilogy of sorts. leave the friendship ending out of this movie. around the disagrement starts between charles and Erik after they start the school have Charles Xaviers assaination as in the Age of Apocalypse story line. Do a second movie (that wouldn’t really be a sequel cause it’d no longer be a magneto storyline by rights but an age of Apocalypse movie) followed by a third where the timeline is set right by Xavier no longer being assaniated and then you see the friend ship end the way it should have (instead of magnus taking over the school and trying to achieve Xavier’s dream as he does in AofA) and Magneto and professor X are at ends and actually battle for the first time. However an Age of Apocolypse movie is about as likely as a civil war movie (which would also be amazing) so I won’t hold my breath.

  26. ok, um magneto is top 5 greatest villians of all time. makeing a movie about one of the top 5 most powerful mutants can only be a success. lets stop with the peon of magneto in ian mckellen and lets see him actually punk the puny x-men and whoever else. o and this movie should not be about the nazi’s the whole way. magneto is way to great to fight losers. it should start with that, and lets introduce some good characters for him and x to fight. let him use his real powers, magnetism, force field, lightning, and all the stuff he can really do. cuz no plastic prison could ever hold him, thats just retarded

  27. and lets see the greatest x-men of all time…gambit in a movie

  28. When Sabretooth was originally intro-ed in Iron Fist 14 by Claremont and Byrne, he was planned to be Wolverine’s father

  29. @Dave

was he really. I’m glad they never followed through with that. At least based on The origin comics and Wolverine Evolution (a must read) they don’t plan on ever following through with it. But by rights they still haven’t given a definite Sabretooth – Wolerine relasionship. Wolverine The end gives the idea of no relashion at all, but thats a future story and they always backtrack on future stories anyways.

    @holmes
we already know its a Magneto origins story. so its not going to really involve the xmen at all. Id say the main plot line will focus on his relashionship and falling out with Xavier. Maybe building the school and beginning to bring in students for X-Men Origins: First Class (but that would be near the end). I have heard they will have him be the one to cripple Xavier, which would prove to be quite the battle. And would definitly include alot of the wicked powers Magneto has to offer, and would show the extend oof Xavier’s power for the first time (in terms of an actual fight). I’m sure they’d throw in some villan that they Magneto and Charles fight together but I can’t think of who they would use. Apocolypse would be to complicate and take away from the Origin story, but Sinister would be fun, and they could include Gambit and Cyclops again, plus Havok and Vulcan (at a young age of course, and those two would probably be cameos, but itd be cool) But it may have to be a human villian like Trask and some sentinals so Charles and Erik can disagree between killing all the humans for the actions of one (Erik based on fear from his youth) or finding a way to co-exsist (Charles and his dream)
