‘X-Men Origins: Magneto’ Plot Revealed

magnus X Men Origins: Magneto Plot RevealedIn August, Screen Rant reported that David Goyer would be writing and directing the upcoming Magneto spinoff film. The movie reportedly would take place before the X-Men trilogy and would center around the origins of none other than our favorite magnetism magician.

Last week, The Geek Files department of the Coventry Telegraph received the official plot synopsis and here are some key parts:

“The original X-Men film began with a prologue that showed the character as a child being led to a concentration camp by Nazis and that is the period in which the Magneto film will take place. This setup will allow a future villain to at least flirt with the designation of protagonist since the character will be seen almost exclusively in his formative years.”

It sounds as if Magneto grows up to combat the Nazis and this story would definitely explain how he has come to hate and fear the idea of mutants being discriminated against as he and his family were in concentration camps as a child. The synopsis continues:

“The storyline will heavily involve Professor X, the wheelchair-using X-Men leader. That character was a soldier in the allied force that liberated the concentration camps. The professor meets Magneto after the war and while they bond over the realization that they are alike in their special powers, their differences soon turn them into enemies.”

Although digital re-aging was utilized in X-Men: The Last Stand to make Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart appear many years younger, the studio will have to use younger stars to play the two lead roles. My hopes are that the two actors still have a cameo or guest appearance in the film by including flash-forwards so we can see them and their relationship as they are older but before they split, as we saw in the flashback in X3: The Last Stand.

I like the idea but it’s far too early to say. Goyer, who wrote a draft of the script earlier this year is busy on other projects for the foreseeable future and Fox is completely focused on X-Men Origins: Wolverine at the moment. Apparently, Fox has no plans going forward for another X-Men or Fantastic Four film but does have interest in a Silver Surfer spinoff. The article explains that if that’s the case, they have to have it completed by 2012 because the film rights return to Marvel after that.

If that’s true, I’m excited. The more Marvel property under Marvel’s control, the better.

What do you think of a Magneto-centric film?

X-Men Origins: Wolverine hits theaters May 1st, 2009 but there is not yet a projected release date for X-Men Origins: Magneto.

  1. Thats awesome. but unfortunately i dont think gambit could make an appearance in a magneto origins story, unless it spanned a very long range of time. however a captain america, and a wolverine guest appearance would be nice. just dont give wolvie a lot of screen time. i definately wanna see magneto show his worth as the most formidable enemy of the x-men. apocalypse has no business being mentioned in a film like this, unless u see him in a cameo at the very beginning as the first mutant, or at the end, where u see a sequal involving mag and charles x-men fighting him. but yeah, he prolly shouldn’t be in it. some type of sentinel in the film might be great

  2. @holmes
Captain America and Wolverine did break Erik out of the concentration camps by rights, so a cameo by either/both of them wouldbe possible. I’d say itd probably be cap in the old coustume if anything and no Wolvie. But I’m highly doubting either. And yeah, the only way Gambit could make an appearance would be if Sinster was the Villian and they have Charles and Erik free Mutants that he was doing experiments on. But they just did a freeing mutants having experiments done on them movie, So i don’t see that happening either.

  3. If they recast Magneto, bring Doug Aldrich to the role, he’s got the charm and is a guitarist for Whitesnake, he could do the music also:)

  4. Get Nikki Sixx as Xavier

  5. Cancelling my previous comments
Aldrich is more of a Thor

  6. Here’s how I’d do the X-Men Origins trilogy:

    X-Men Origins: Wolverine introduces Gambit.

X-Men Origins: Gambit – Revolves around Remy and the thieves guild. Ororo Munroe was a street thief in Cairo and the early Gambit storyline (Uncanny 266) had him mentoring the de-aged Storm, might as well make that a young Storm for the movie. You could even do a Shadow King bit with Xavier.

X-Men Origins: Storm – Adapt the Lifedeath storyline. Romance with Forge, etc. etc. (Uncanny 186 & 198).

  7. personally, i think the avengers universe should be separate from X-men universe, in the movies. they just couldn’t pull it off in a movie. personnally, i think billy zane should be young prof. X, and perhaps james mcavoy as magneto?

  8. @Noah
using captain america would be awesome along with charles as a soldier.

  9. Daniel Craig as Magneto please.
    Anybody can play young Xavier.
Bring back Juggernaut played by…Gerad Butler from 300.

  10. Originally, Juggernaut’s powers were magical (The Jewel of Cytorak or something); did Marvel change them to a mutation? If so, is he still the adopted brother of Xavier?

  11. Yes i do agree that the revisions on the stiry is a little bit harsh but if stan lee allowed it who are we to condem the movie ….guess…sacrifies should be made for the greater good …… looking forward for the next x men movie

  13. Wait; if we’re going to get a Magneto movie does it mean that we are going to get to see Wanda and Pietro? That would make me happy…and what about Polaris?

  14. I'm excited about there being a movie about Magneto! I think they should of made one for him before the Wolverine one. He is such a fascinating character that they can easily make a good movie out of his history. They do need to get a fourth movie out for the regular movie series especially after the disaster called 'Last Stand.' It was certainly a last stand considering none have been made after it and the fact that it just failed. I would also like to see an Origins movie about Rogue. The original one. It doesn't need to follow the other movies and the same goes for Jubilee, Pietro, and Wanda =]

  15. X-Men: First Class already explores this doesn’t it?
