Beca (Anna Kendrick) and the rest of the Bellas are back for one last time to formally wrap up the Pitch Perfect series in the first trailer released for Pitch Perfect 3. The musical/comedy franchise, which first kicked off in 2012, became an instant movie hit spawning a direct sequel, Pitch Perfect 2, which arrived in 2015. Now, a final hurrah is slated to come out by the end of this year.

Universal Pictures has slowly started revving up their marketing machinery in preparation for the Bellas' swan song. Prior to the release of the first trailer, an exclusive behind-the-scenes teaser was released featuring what went on during the production of Pitch Perfect 3 and teasing of a bigger musical stage for the a capella group to step into. It was then followed by the release of the official Pitch Perfect 3 poster with all the Bellas fiercely looking at the camera. The “Last Call, Pitches,” tag-line gives a cheeky callback to Pitch Perfect 2's own poster tagline: “We’re Back, Pitches.

Universal released the first trailer for Pitch Perfect 3 [above], which showcases the Bellas on their world tour. In Pitch Perfect 3, Beca and her fellow Bellas have graduated from college, with various levels of success in the post-collegiate world. However, when the Bellas get back together, they're pitted against other musical groups - ones with "real instruments" and original songs. So, the ladies will have to join together to "aca-finish this."

The returning cast is joined by newcomers Matt Lanter and John Lithgow. The The Crown actor will be playing Fat Amy's grandfather, teasing fans about a more well-rounded character arc for the fan-favorite. Orange is the New Black standout Ruby Rose is also boarding the project as the leader of the Bellas' rival group.

One great thing about the Pitch Perfect series, which is solidified by the narrative of its threequel capper, is the fact that it was able to consistently elevate the adventures of the Bellas in every installment. The group started as an in-school a capella group which eventually went out and competed with other schools’ representatives. Now they are stepping into an arguably bigger musical world that transcends genre. But despite all the big and bright stages and dramas of competing, the films always manage to touch on the personal struggles of Beca and the rest of her singing squad, making the film a bit more relatable to some degree.

Franchise newbie, director Trish Sie took over from series proponent and helmer of Pitch Perfect 2, Elizabeth Banks, in directing this last one. Banks had to step down from directing Pitch Perfect 3 due to a scheduling conflict but will still reprise her role as Gail Abernathy-McKadden-Feinberger. Based off of the trailer, Sie was able to encapsulate the team dynamic that the Bellas are known for, coupled with a few new elements like seemingly a more action-packed adventure for everyone to keep things fresh. For fans of the series, Pitch Perfect 3 seems to be a great way to wrap up the Bellas’ narrative in a fitting and satisfying way.
