‘Pirates of the Caribbean 4′ & ‘Priest’ Super Bowl TV Spots

Two summer action movies, one sci-fi and one fantasy, make their debuts this summer and both offer a new TV Spot during the Big Game today.

Priest, which marks the re-teaming of director Scott Stewart (Legion) and star Paul Bettany takes us to an alternate post-apocalyptic future where vampires and humans have fought for centuries. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides brings back Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) and Captain Barbossa on a quest to find the fountain of youth.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, marks the fourth installment in the financially successful Disney live-action franchise and the first without key cast members Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom. Instead, Captain Jack is back on a more pirate-focused treasure hunt, alongside rival Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) and a new female lead played by Penélope Cruz, as they cross paths with the infamous Blackbeard (Ian McShane).

And here’s the extended one-minute preview:

Even with Gore Verbinski passing the directorial reins to Rob Marshall, this TV spot and the Pirates 4 trailer maintain the exact look and feel of the franchise so far, especially when it comes to characters and action set pieces. Unfortunately, with the second and third installments being disappointments, that may not be a good thing. Can we get a better movie with the director and cast changes?

The story of Priest follows a Warrior Priest (Bettany) who breaks his vows and journeys on a quest to rescue his niece who was kidnapped by a gang of vampires. Joining him on the rescue mission are his niece’s boyfriend, a sheriff named Hicks (Cam Gigandet) and priestess (Maggie Q). The film also stars Karl Urban as the vampire known as Black Hat along with a supporting cast which includes Christopher Plummer, Stephen Moyer and Lily Collins.

I hope after this film, Johnny Depp will play more straight, normal, “cool” characters from now on and do more dramas instead of Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

Priest is going to die a death!

I tried to be optimistic but PotC look quite average, not good, not bad, just average.
