Sure to be one of 2011’s biggest blockbusters (if not THE biggest), Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides continues the adventures of Captain Jack Sparrow as he, and several not-so-friendly others, go in search of the famous Fountain of Youth.

Fans of the Pirates franchise will already have their calendars marked for On Stranger Tides, but to get you even more excited for the movie we have a new behind the scenes featurette, as well as a new image/cover, for you to check out.

The 90-second video is from Disney Channel’s “Movie Surfers” mini-show which aired on New Year’s Eve. It features Captain Jack himself, Johnny Depp, talking about his character and the plot of the fourth movie, as well showing off some new footage from both the actual movie and the shooting process.

Take a look at the behind the scenes video below:

Now check out the cover of Empire‘s latest issue featuring Captain Jack on the cover:

The behind the scenes video reminds me just how good of an actor Depp is, in that he can transform himself into pretty much every single character he plays. In the above interview (and most others) he appears shy, quiet and reserved, but once in character it’s a completely different story. And nowhere is that truer than with Captain Jack Sparrow.

I’m glad that with On Stranger Tides they have ditched the characters of Will (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth (Keira Knightley). Their romance issues in the second and particularly the third Pirates movie dragged everything down, taking away from the swashbuckling fun that made the first movie so enjoyable. The fourth film is thankfully focusing on Captain Jack and his search for the Fountain of Youth, a rather inspired choice to base the plot around.

In case you missed them check out the Pirates 4 theatrical trailerour interview with director Rob Marshall, and our fan coverage of the “Pirates Fans First” event held last month.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides sails into 2D, 3D and IMAX 3D theaters in the U.S. on May 20th, 2011.
