Bruckheimer Talks Pirates of the Caribbean 4

Last week, Steve “Frosty” Weintraub over at Collider ventured over to über-producer Jerry Bruckheimer’s office in Santa Monica to get an early look at the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time trailer. After viewing the trailer, Weintraub ran into Bruckheimer and took the time to ask him some questions regarding the upcoming fourth addition to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, entitled, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

The three questions Weintraub chose to ask were:

What’s up with the script?
When are they going to shoot the film?
Did the regime change at Disney cause any problems?

Bruckheimer’s responses were that they’ve got a script for the film (especially if the reports are true that it’s based on a book); they’re looking to start filming next year and that the “resignation” of Walt Disney Studios chairman Dick Cook will not affect the production of the film in the slightest. Weintraub also notes that the way Bruckheimer was speaking to him about the project, it looks as if the previous reports of the plot being the search for the fountain of youth are true.

While I wouldn’t consider Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End as entertaining as the previous two, I would happily welcome another installment. My only concern is that maybe Jerry Bruckheimer has too many things on his plate. While I’m sure he has an extremely large plate,  if you look at what he’s got going on right now you start to wonder how much influence he really has on things.

As of now, Bruckheimer has 7 television series on the air, 2 films completed and ready for release and 20 projects “in-development” including the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean and the third National Treasure film. That doesn’t exactly leave you much time for a hands-on approach.

Still, say what you will about his films and television series, JB definitely earns his money.

  1. No!, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is coming out on July 8th, 2011 Friday. It does not have a tentative release date anymore!. You can even check imdb.com and you’ll see there that it says it IS coming out on July 8th, 2011 Friday!. That also does tell me pretty much that disney.go.com will be changing their summer 2011 release date for pirates of the caribbean: on stranger tides to July 8th, 2011 Friday!, sometime very soon!, possibly sooner then we all might even think they will change it to that date, so we should all keep our eyes open and watch for that to happen soon!!!.

  2. @ Sean
Okay man. I’m excited about this movie too and am a big fan of Depp but you are completey orgasmic over it. Chill out. I mean pretty much ending every sentence with an exclamation point and your posts on other PIrates/Depp related stuff….just calm down man.

To be honest who cares about the date? He said tentative summer release date. You’re saying July. Whatever July is in summer so…:\ IMDB shouldn’t be your ultimate resource. Movie release dates get changed all the time.

Anyways, I was expecting a bit more information from this. I mean everyone already guessed that the movie would be about the fountain of youth and that they would be filming next year. But the only thing being presented here is the whole thing of will Bruckheimer be too busy. Um I think he’ll set aside the least important stuff for his big name projects like Pirates. Isn’t that the logical thing to do? I don’t even see why it’s being presented really. Sure the guy has several projects but isn’t that what Hollywood is all about?

  3. @Sean

If what you are saying is true, this gives me some major concern. IMHO, i think that 2011 is already too packed with movies. Already in July thers gonna be Transformers 3(July 1st), now this Pirates 4(July 8th), and then HP7 Part 2(July 17th), and then Captain America(July 22nd)! And then theres also Thor and Spider-Man 4 and Kung Fu Panda: The Kaboom of Doom… Thats way too much for me man, but i would like to see who will own the box office.

  4. ORI,
I understand about what your saying about how i typed my previous comment here, but hey!, i’m sorry!, thats just the way i type and i’m NOT changing it in any way!, sorry!… IMDB.com is a source that i use alot for movies when i want to find out info about movies, thats how i found out what pirates 4′s release date is, and chances are that how ever that date got there, it must of been official because its been there a while now and has not been changed by the imdb.com people who may change things on there every once in a while!, when they get new movie updates on upcoming movies, that are yet to be released to theaters.

    Eli P,
I would think that the more movies in one month during the summer, then the better, because that would mean, people could see all the summer movies that month, almost every day in july, and every day that month people would see a different movie, with pirates of the caribbean: on stranger tides included in that!, and hey, that sounds like fun to me!. I would love to do something like that!, wouldn’t you?.

  5. Yeah I guess so but I’m the kinda guy who knows what I wanna see and I’ve already got 2010 planned out, but 2011 is just madness! IMHO I think it’s too packed

  6. I have a feeling though that it’ll look better as time goes on because more movies will probably be moved to 2012, with pirates of the caribbean 4 not being one of those 2011 movies being moved to 2012 !, because it already has a wide poster like the one above this webpage, that says “summer 2011″!.

  7. I like the POTC franchise, but this is not one of my most anticipated films. While the first movie was extremely entertaining and fun and I can still watch it when it’s playing, the last 2 have been merely mediocre and not really worthy of watching repeatedly. I hope that the new film gets back to the original film’s feeling and is a more enjoyable and fun movie. At World’s End was a very tedious movie to watch.

  8. What was so tedious about “At World’s End”?. And What was so mediocre about the last two movies???. The last two movies, “I thought” where the best ones, because the story pretty much grows as the story and movies move on!. The story of the first one was great and amazing!, but it was just way to simple and boring!, and at the same time though it was still good!, so i do agree with you about the first movie!. The fourth movie is goona be good anyways because jerry bruckheimer “the producer” already said that the fourth movie was gonna be like the first movie where its brought back down to the original core and essence that the very first pirates of the caribbean movie had “The curse of the black pearl”.

  9. At World’s End was one of the worst films I think I’ve ever seen. It was too long and the plot didn’t make any sense. However, I would definitely see a fourth film now that they’ve gotten rid of Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley. Johnny Depp could easily carry POTC on his own. The only thing people go to see is Captain Jack anyway.

  10. twistedburton,
Most good movies are 2 hours and 30 minutes long to about 2 hours and 45 minutes long!!!. The plot does make sense, you just have really pay attention to it with out falling asleep and with out walking out of the theater at any point in time when the movie is still playing, that is just common sense!. I do agree with you on one part though!, and thats what you said about will and elizabeth!, i got tired of them already when i was watching the second movie for the first time in 2006. I also agree with you with what you said about johnny depp returning as captain jack sparrow, but, what about geoffrey rush returning as captain barbossa, i think he is just as important in the pirates of the caribbean movies as johnny depp is with his captain jack sparrow character!.

  11. Just two questions. How was the 3rd movie one of the worst movie you ever seen and how the hell did it not make any sense? I thought the 3rd was the best.

The explanation is right there in front of you. Either you just didn’t see pirates 3 or you didn’t see the 2nd since that pretty much has some info leading into 3. It’s siple really. Let’s get Jack back cause he’s a pirate lord and has a piece of eight needed to return Calypso to her regular form in order to take on Davy Jones and the East Indian trading company. Group all the pirates together and fight em both. How does it not make any sense?

  12. ORI, I totally agree with you there!. It’s probably because if you don’t stay to watch the whole movie that could happen or if your there watching the whole movie but you end up falling asleep during the movie is another possible thing to have happend!. Which both of those things to possibly have happend are NOT smart things to do when you go to see a movie!, and it even makes you look dumb, because then why would even go to a movie theater in the first place to even bother going to see a movie then and even to pay to go to see it at all?!, “of course i’m not directing that part of my comment to you though ori!”. i ment for that to be said to who commented here before i did previously!.
