‘Pirates of the Caribbean 4′ Set Pics & Casting Updates

Published 5 years ago by , Updated August 11th, 2013 at 4:11 am,

Production officially began on Pirates of the Caribbean 4 yesterday in Hawaii and producer Jerry Bruckheimer wasted no time in twittering images from the set.  We also have a casting update about a model/actress who will be hitting the pirate seas.

Bruckheimer is also encouraging fans to join his Facebook Fan Page where he promises to continually post photos and other special content as filming progresses.

While the first photo of Bruckheimer sitting on set doesn’t appear to be all that exciting at first glance, check out the film’s logo on the back of the chair. You can see the famous skull and crossbones has been slightly altered to reflect Pirates of the Caribbean 4‘s plot- the search for the Fountain of Youth.

This next one is basically the photo equivalent of name-dropping. Still, I can’t blame Jerry- I’d be excited about sitting next to Johnny Depp too. It certainly whipped the female readers of his twitter page into a frenzy (are those Johnny’s footprints? Gasp!).

Finally, there’s director Rob Marshall arriving to the set on a jet ski (not a bad way to get to work). All past drama aside, it looks like things are off to an enjoyable start. Marshall was always excited to get the job and his enthusiasm is showing no signs of waning. Still, let’s see how he looks on the last day of shooting a summer tentpole blockbuster. Maybe Bruckheimer will tweet a photo for comparison?

While there are no huge revelations or spoilers lurking in these photos, it’s pretty amazing how in-depth a look audiences get behind the curtain these days. What do you think – if Bruckheimer plans to cover a great deal of the production in this same manner (revealing characters, costumes, sets, etc.) is he building hype or potentially lessening the impact of the finished film?

In other Pirates 4 news, Australian website Courier Mail is reporting that Australian supermodel-turned-actress Gemma Ward has joined the Stranger Tides cast. You might not immediately recognize Ward (see: the header image), but she does have acting experience, most notably as one of the masked psychos who terrorized Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman in The Strangers.

Ward will apparently play a mermaid in the movie alongside French actress Astrid Berges-Frisbey.

Pirates of the Caribbean 4 is set to sail into theaters next summer and stars Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush, Penelope Cruz, Ian McShane, Stephen Graham, Astrid Berges-Frisbey and Sam Calflin.

What do you think of the new logo? Will you be following more of Bruckheimer’s sneak peeks or do you want as little spoiled as possible before you see Pirates of the Caribbean 4?

  1. Those are awesome set pictures!, this is going to be a great movie! :) , i can already tell that it’s gonna be a great movie, because of who they’re casting to star in Pirates 4 !.

  2. The Strangers scared the hell out of me. Anyone think Gemma Ward kind of looks like Amanda Seyfried?

    • Neo,

Was The Strangers any good other then scaring you? Its one of my “want to see but no time cause the wife doesnt want to see it so I would have to find time to watch it movie…” :D

      • I found it absolutely terrifying, but it wouldn’t be on my list of favorite movies or anything. It’s very scary but it’s not super clever or artsy like The Shining or something (I’m actually not a fan of The Shining because of how it changed the book, but it’s a good example of a well-made film that many people consider to be a classic).
The concept isn’t original but it scared me more than any other horror movie I have ever seen. It depends on what you’re looking for. Hope that helps!

    • The Strangers was such a good movie! Freaked me out for sure. And yes, I think Ward does look a bit like Amanda Seyfried.

  3. Waterworld 4,,,
    (On vacation)

    • uh, i beg to differ.

  4. I think by revealing too much behind the scenes materials can hurt the film especially a supernatural/ adventure film like POTC as it removes the sense of mystery when you watched the film on screen.

    • Well, not everyone knows “exactly” what’ll happen for sure, until the movie actually comes to theaters on May 20th, 2011 Friday!.

  5. why is orlando bloom not in this movie or the orignal characters from the first 3 what is wrong with you? you cant have a movie sequel without the same characters thats just stupid they better be able to compared to what they did in there role for the last 3 amazing movies!

  6. Gemma Ward should have more scenes in the movie and I was a bit dissapointed her’s was only short like she could have saved her suster Syrena(Astrid) since like there underwater caves that they could get through or she and Syrena were both captured. I liked the part where there was the Pirates vs. mermaid scene like an epic batlle in LOTR hahaha didn’t know they could use a laso to capture their favorite prey (men) hahaha
