prince of persia1 First Pic Of Jake Gyllenhaal From Prince Of PersiaWe’ve got the first pic from the upcoming Prince of Persia movie, with star Jake Gyllenhaal trying his best to look the part of titular Prince Dastan. (What, they couldn’t find a Persian actor to play the part?)

I bet right about now Naveen Andrews is feeling pretty slighted.

Anyway, Prince of Persia is based on the popular video game about a young prince (Gyllenhaal) who is tricked by an evil wizard (Ben Kingsley) into unleashing the evil sands of time. The film is being directed by Mike Newell (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) and is currently slated for a May 28, 2010 release.

Take a look at the pic and let us know what you think about Gyllenhaal as the Prince of Persia. (Ladies, try not to get too giddy. Fellas, you either.)

  1. If anyone knows abour the history Jake is the right choice. As Iranians we have whites with blond hair to darker people. Ghengis Khan killed a greater number of the whites from that region during his conquest of Persia in the 1100’s

  2. Looks like the Prince of Persia from Warrior Within. He really looks like the prince 😀

  3. if this movie is based on the sands of time, the costume is all wrong. the prince (what’s with all this dastan business) wears white pants and a blue vest-like garment and isn’t exceptionally chiseled in that installment, creating a starker contrast in Warrior Within (like bastian said, the costume pictured is reminiscent of WW). he sort of has a boyish quality to him.
PoP is one of my favorite video game series and i sincerely hope disney will takes the time to do it justice instead of it being another opportunity for them to line their already over-stuffed pockets. jake definitely only vaguely resembles the prince, but i admire him as an actor… i guess we’ll see in two years.

  4. I’m sick of Hollywood whitewashing the protagonists of all their movies. Didn’t Gyllenhaal join in on the gay spoof against Iranian President Ahmadinejad. Looks like another political slap in the face by Hollywood.
By the way Artaxerxes, I’ve never met a full blooded Iranian with blond hair. Why are the whiter ones always put on a pedestal? The Western Syndrome. This recreation of our peoples has to stop. The whiteness was caused by Alexander the Great commanding his troops to sleep with a Persian woman and breed us out when they conquered. Don’t blame it fully on Khan. Look at the original reliefs of the 1st Persians on the Iranian plateau, the Elamites. Not white at all, actually quite the opposite.
    Jake is the wrong choice.

  5. He’s all flabby. He better do about 100 sit ups a day…i remember the Prince being pretty buff.

  6. I think he needs a darker tan, darker colored hair/beard. And he could probably do with looking a little more lean than he does now, he looks a little too muscular to be very acrobatic, which we all know the prince is. And the costume is not very reflective of the prince… He needs the white puffy pants with way different boots… I agree with whoever said he looks more like the warrior within prince, which wasnt that great of a game. The original prince of persia games, the 2D ones had the white puffy pants and no shoes or anything, but he deffinately needs something on his feet

  7. Baba – I have relatives on my mother’s side from Tabriz that are 100% Iranian and they have blond hair and blue/green eyes. Are they Greeks? Also the Elamites were black and of Ethiopian heritage. They were an empire/civilization of their own with their own culture until they were overtaken by the Aryans tribes around 3000 BC.

  8. um;
    first off costume:
its more warrior within than sands of time.
    secondly physique:
more warrior within than sands of time.
    thirdly facial appearance:
the beard is nothing like sands of time.

I’ve played all three of the GameCube games several times through and saw how the character progressed. I’m thinking from the photo that he is dressed for some scenes from the second movie.
For all we know they finished shooting the first one and working out the CGI on it.
but who knows that is purely speculation at this point.
but who cares about this movie the new game for ps3 and xbox are dropping this holiday season so play that and wait for more details.

  9. I think he is too old for this role. Originally (in computer game), Prince was about 17 or something

  10. I can’t believe that the gay guy is going to be playing the Prince!!! I now hope that this movie sucks.

  11. holy cow-wow…. I say yummy. Thats all.

  12. jake is not gay, he’s the brother of maggie gyllenhaal.

  13. the costume is simliar to the warrior within costume and all you haters can burn to a krisp

  14. justice speaks, you are right about everything expect the gay part

  15. I’d love to see the people who are calling him ‘flabby.’

Hes solid. And bigger than the prince’s build. The CGI in this movie will make him look even better including his tan I’d bet.

  16. And has anyone played the game? He wears boots.

  17. :)

  18. i played the game

  19. I love this video game! When I first heard that Orlando Bloom was going to play the part, I was quite happy with it. But when Jake was finally cast, I had my doubts. This picture just proves it! He looks “trying hard” to fit the part. Too bulky and too hairy! The wig is awful!

  20. frostfire3d, you are hating cause Orlando Bloom did not get the role.

  21. he doesn’t suit in. an actor with Asian-Persian skin tone could have been more accepted by the POP lovers.

the producer is risking his money and Eidos is risking its one of the most respectful Creation. Learn from the mistakes (47 movie…its was a hopeless time pass flick, couldn’t come up with the expectation)

  22. will somebody get the newbies?

  23. @Roberts

What are you talking about? Anyone who has something to contribute to the conversation is welcome as long as they are civil. You are a newbie here yourself.

  24. does the newbie Arjav have to be here?

  25. WHAT???? that got that gay-wod to play the prince???? wow i guess they plan on having the movie suck really bad. He alone is going to ruin to moive, as well as the stupid “director” only an idiot put’s a gay guy into an action movie. They will never be able to do it right with disney either.

  26. sorry about the errors in my writing if you anything to ask please don’t hesitate to ok?

  27. Hey Sam I agree with but 100%,just read my note and ask me a question if you don’t understand me ok

  28. Hey Tony, i got you completly. I take martial arts too, and i wouldn’t mind taking a shot at being the prince, but most likly the punk will have like 3 stunt doubles. Even if he does a little dodge, they will have a stunt dude do that LOL I’m just looking forward to the next game their making, going to be TIGHT!
