Woah woah, am I the only one who played the games? I was worried at first about Jake playing the good ol’ Prince, but after these photos I’m pretty confident.

As long as they get someone to do a voiceover or Jake swallows some nails, I think this’ll be a fun movie to watch.

Whats up with his boots??? shouldn’t the prince be wearing some sort of sandals? unless persia is expecting some sort of snow storm they deffinatly dont fit with this movie… and where are the white puffy pants?? he looks more like the prince from warrior within not sands of time… Are they filming multiple movies at once or parts of the next few movies durring sands of time?

Old man,

Checked out the two names listed and I’m kinda glad Jake got the part over them. Dunno what’s being mentioned about CGI and stuff, but I love the fact he doesn’t have bowflex muscle– more of just a hardened guy. I think toned muscles would be more unrealistic than wearing sandals while wall-jumping =)

Let’s not forget this is a movie based off of a video game and it’s being done by Disney.

When i heard Jake was gonna play the prince i was worried but after seeing this pic he looks pretty darn close to the prince from the game. The pants arent the same and the gauntlets are missing but by god that is the prince. In the sands of time he wasnt wearing, sandles unless you are talking about the old school one, which in that case he should be wearing a turban and a red vest but since there is a farah in this movie then it is from the one on the xbox gamecube and ps2. Another thing those are man abs, not the hollister model pansy ones but ones that if you tried punching you would break your hand and you can tell that was done with out steroids.

First of all the guy who wrote this article is a moron. Naveen Andrews is not Persian hahah, hes pakistani. Second off Oded Fehr is Israeli and not persian either. And for everyone who makes comments about Jake being too pale im not sure if any of you have done your research but Persians/Iranians have very fair skin color. to be even more historically accurate Iran means “aryan.” Persians were the first aryan people and it was not till much later after war and mixing with neighbors such as arabs and greeks that some Iranians have a more darker complexion.

Gravatar
August 15th, 2008

@Sean

FIRST of all you need to chill out and not call people morons.

The person “who wrote this article” said NOTHING about Naveen Andrews whatsoever. That was one of the commenters.

And as far as pale vs tan, whatever is true historically, today most people associate a tan look with those who come from that part of the world.

Also, this film is based on the video game and the character in that game does not exactly have snowy white skin.

The choice of Jake G is purely for franchise purposes. This is definitely the first of a few movies from Disney a la Pirates, and while I agree about Oded Fehr(see Mummy/Deuce Bigalow 1) being a better fit, when you consider marketing and investing in your star, roided Jake is a solid choice. He has to work on his anti-manly voice to pull off the role.

I have more concerns about Jake giving the Prince some life as a character if the movie is long..storyline and the mission will take care of itself, but the character is of highest importance - he doesn’t have to go Jack Sparrow on us but at the same time, the prince is a legendary character and deserves to be done justice.

The commenter who suggested Bollywood brought up an interesting point but those guys don’t have much as much acting talent/chops. Each Bollywood script is recycled with just the names, places and songs being changed which makes movies mass produced and profitable more than an artistic performance.

Go Jake! Run the walls with all your CGI glory!

Look, I’m only half Persian, but by God, if they cast and Indian, Pakistani, Israeli or Arab actor, I would have been offended. I think Jake looks pretty darn close to the actual look of the character, features wise, and lets remember, this movie is most likely going to be WAY CG’d up, so lets not worry just yet.
And as far as the gauntlets being missing, well, he looks like he’s probably on break, people.

Gravatar
August 15th, 2008

Gotta admit he does look pretty good despite all the naysayers. What I find funny is that prior to this image I always thought of him as kind of a pasty white guy - so it took a hell of a casting director to make THAT leap, lol. :-)

I dont care about the gauntlets i was just pointing it out. I was way excited when I heard they were making this movie. Favorite game franchise of all times. Who cares if it doesn’t go along with the story exactly i just hope it is going to be good.

Well India has historically had much better relations with Persia than the west, which is why I made a reference to Bollywood. Additionally check your history, Ancient northern and central India was also referred to as Aryavarta, meaning “abode of the Aryans”. My impression has always been that “the prince” had a much more eastern influenced look to him. Why shouldn’t an actor with that look have as much of an opportunity to portray a Persian as an actor like Gyllenhaal. I was just curious who else had been considered for the role.

By the way during the Shah’s reign I had a friend of a friend of mine who was born and raised in Iran. We talked on several occasions and women swooned over his “dark” eastern good looks. His name was Davoo(sp) or David. I can’t remember his last name. Like I said I only met him a few times and it was years ago. So maybe now you can understand why I asked! Sheesh..

if this movie is based on the sands of time, the costume is all wrong. the prince (what’s with all this dastan business) wears white pants and a blue vest-like garment and isn’t exceptionally chiseled in that installment, creating a starker contrast in Warrior Within (like bastian said, the costume pictured is reminiscent of WW). he sort of has a boyish quality to him.
PoP is one of my favorite video game series and i sincerely hope disney will takes the time to do it justice instead of it being another opportunity for them to line their already over-stuffed pockets. jake definitely only vaguely resembles the prince, but i admire him as an actor… i guess we’ll see in two years.

I’m sick of Hollywood whitewashing the protagonists of all their movies. Didn’t Gyllenhaal join in on the gay spoof against Iranian President Ahmadinejad. Looks like another political slap in the face by Hollywood.
By the way Artaxerxes, I’ve never met a full blooded Iranian with blond hair. Why are the whiter ones always put on a pedestal? The Western Syndrome. This recreation of our peoples has to stop. The whiteness was caused by Alexander the Great commanding his troops to sleep with a Persian woman and breed us out when they conquered. Don’t blame it fully on Khan. Look at the original reliefs of the 1st Persians on the Iranian plateau, the Elamites. Not white at all, actually quite the opposite.
Jake is the wrong choice.

I think he needs a darker tan, darker colored hair/beard. And he could probably do with looking a little more lean than he does now, he looks a little too muscular to be very acrobatic, which we all know the prince is. And the costume is not very reflective of the prince… He needs the white puffy pants with way different boots… I agree with whoever said he looks more like the warrior within prince, which wasnt that great of a game. The original prince of persia games, the 2D ones had the white puffy pants and no shoes or anything, but he deffinately needs something on his feet

Baba - I have relatives on my mother’s side from Tabriz that are 100% Iranian and they have blond hair and blue/green eyes. Are they Greeks? Also the Elamites were black and of Ethiopian heritage. They were an empire/civilization of their own with their own culture until they were overtaken by the Aryans tribes around 3000 BC.

um;
first off costume:
its more warrior within than sands of time.
secondly physique:
more warrior within than sands of time.
thirdly facial appearance:
the beard is nothing like sands of time.

I’ve played all three of the GameCube games several times through and saw how the character progressed. I’m thinking from the photo that he is dressed for some scenes from the second movie.
For all we know they finished shooting the first one and working out the CGI on it.
but who knows that is purely speculation at this point.
but who cares about this movie the new game for ps3 and xbox are dropping this holiday season so play that and wait for more details.

I agree with those who said he looks like the Prince in Warrior Within, but then again I would have to disagree because in WW is when he wears leather armor with Farah’s amulet and in The two Thrones is wear he wears his shirt off so everybody should do their homework, but first off: How is Jake going to pull off the traininacrobatics and fighting abilities,I mean common,I bet a million dollars he’s never ran 4 or 5 steps up a wall and did a back flip 180 off of it,or running 8 or 9 steps across a wall at least, and if Jake wants to do this I STRONGLY SUGGEST THAT He takes up basic Kick boxing, weapon training with swords, daggers, duel swords, axes, maces and more, gymnastics, a lot of running to build up stamina to run those walls,he also would need to be from 5″8 to 5″11,needs to weigh from 145 lbs to 160 prinlbs and have 28 in. to 32 in.waist with a six pack, and veins running through his whole arm starting from his upper shoulders, and a little bit of break dancing to do the hand-stand spin wheel kick with swords and the beard has go to on him,if you want a good example of the ce’s goatee style ,come and see my pic on myspace at http://www.myspace.com/rambo12690 and trust me I did my studies,he eyes also have to be aqua green that changes to a really really light sky blue and about the boots, the boots should be made of light brown suede leather with a little heal designed light and similar like hi top boxing shoes and believe me I beat the game 3 times like it was nothing and play it whenever I’m bored so if Jake can’t handle it, put me man to do the moves cause I can almost run 3 steps up a wall and across a wall and I’m a good Martial Arts and GREAT WITH SWORDS,so if Jake can’t do the moves call me,the number is 1-239-282-5649 and my name is Tony and believe I am the Prince, my friends even call me The Prince Of Persia and one last thing what’s up his name cause if anyone payed attention to the story,he never reveals his name, just a secret word called kukolookial and the princess’s name is Farah not Dumb Tamina cause I got to say that if the producer can’t keep the story true then don’t even bother making this movie cause it will upset me really badly and other fans and would be hurting the story and wasting money but anyway give me a call and look at pic if you disagree ok or you just want to talk and one last thing the story takes place in The Palace of Azad

Gravatar
September 5th, 2008

yeah you’re right there Sam,every actor has stunt back up but the only thing that I’m worried about is the fact that Disney’s making this film and Disney is not known for promoting intense violence cause I can’t think of one film made by Disney that is violent and the way prince fights is kinda like a demon,I mean I’m sure everything is not always neat and tightly but he fights with alot of heart and HE CAN’T BE STOPPED FOR CRAP!!! and they better fix the names for the story and make this film right or I’m coming for Jake and I’ll show that little punk who’s THE REAL PRINCE OF PERSIA, I AM

Gravatar
September 5th, 2008

hey Sam one more thing if they really want to do the story right they should pay attention to every detail of the game while playing it or watch it on you tube so they can get the script right, fix up Jake’s face a little and his body alot and do the training as I listed before and get me to do the moves and get the real guy who played his voice to put it into the movie, I’m mean common they got the hi tech these days to do it right? or they should use the guy who did the same voice in the game but make it some animated and real like Beowulf that would be easier and cool right?

Gravatar
Sam said,

Well animated moives normally take way longer, but with some studios it can go just as fast a real life moives. But it’s clear that the bottom line is we will just have to make our own moive. Or remake the moive if and when this disnsney one flops.

Gravatar

But i shouldn’t really talk yet, cause i havn’t put out anything really decent.

I think this could work. Sure he looks like the Warrior Within version, but I’m pretty sure Disney can work with that.
And the whole issue about the name Dastan is that the director simply had to name the character, for the film’s sake. It would have sounded strange if everyone in the film referred to him as “The Prince.” ‘Dastan’ apparently means ‘trickster’ in persian, according to another site I read about this film. People should try and read around subjects before slanting them on forums.
And about the running on walls stuff, have you ever seen ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’? You think those actors actually ran across frikkin trees? No, they probably used harnesses and ropes, which get edited out. So Jake or his stunt doubles will probably be able to do the acrobatics, with some CGI to ramp up the final version.
Looking forward to its release, I hope Jake will do the Prince justice.
Oh, and about the boots, in my opinion they’re awesome! Trying to find a pair similar for myself. Try freerunning in sandals people, if your not hurting or losing a shoe mid walljump, I’ll be impressed.
