Del Toro is a great director and best choice to direct Hobbit. If he bring the old cast he like to work with back, I see.

Oh, what about the three trolls?
How about John Goodman, Jeffrey Jones and, to be cheeky, Robbie Coltrane. Get him away from Potter for a bit.

Also, Tim Curry as the voice of Smaug. Just deepen it a bit for effect.

Maybe GDT will bring in Luke Goss, has worked with him twice now. Hmmm, could be Bard I guess.

Freeman as Bilbo, yes, like that a lot.
Was never sure about him as Arthur Dent, and wasn’t that taken with him when I got to see him in the movie, but as Bilbo think he would be great.

Ron Perlman would be awesome as Beorn…but I can also see him as Thorin. I’d love to see Doug Jones as Gollum…but it’s probably a safe bet that Andy Serkis will get that nod again.

I just hope someone considers Martin Freeman for Bilbo.

I think Jackson decided not to direct because of legal problems with the prodction company; or maybe it was the production company that decided not to have him direct. Anyway, it would have been a mistake not to have him involved.

I go against the grain here, as I don’t get the popularity of The Lord of the Rings films. I really thought they were all over long, hollow and fairly boring. Peter Jackson is solid from a visual standpoint, but he still has a lot to learn from a storytelling standpoint! That’s just me!

Personally I would say GDT is a great choice for the Hobbit. He knows how to do fairy tales – the right blend of fantasy and scary.
I love the trilogy Jackson did, but that must have taken a lot out of him, could be very hard to do the same. Also, as big a fan as I am, they were some flaws in those movies be happy not to see repreated – how many dies did Frodo ‘die’ in slow motion?!

As soon as I read Perlman’s name, I thought Beorn too. Completely agree there, especially considering what happens at the final battle.
Do hope get the old members back, especially McKellen.
Personally like the fact the movie has a new director. The Hobbit is very different in tone from the Lord of the Rings. Also think more of the same would be dull. This is much more of a focused adventure. Thorin and co should be fun.

I still don’t know why the film-makers are doing a “bridge” film. There’s more than enough written material in the Silmarillion to form as the basis for a great movie.

I friggin hope the second film is a bridge film with returning cast members from the trilogy. I need some more Aragorn and Gimli, heh. I much prefer that over having a two-part Hobbit series, that would suck for me.

This is Great News!!!
i can see Ron Pearlman fitting in as Beron (for those of you who are well versed in Tolkin Lore, He lived with his animals (horses, dogs and ponies among others) in a wooden house between the Misty Mountains and Mirkwood, to the east of the Anduin.
Beorn was of immense size and strength for a man, and retained his size and strength in bear-form. He had brown hair and a thick black beard and broad shoulders. Thanks WIKI)
and Doug Jones as a Giant Spider (how theyl Figure it out!!!)
But Regardles i will be suprised if the relevant LOTR cast members do not show up fot the Party Respectivly Sir Ian McKellen (to reprise his role as Gandalf) and Hugo Weaving (as Elrond)…
