I personally loathe this whole 3-D craze. This headache inducing technology has done nothing to enhance or enrich the experience of any movie or t.v. show that I have seen. It makes me VERY happy that they won’t be dumbing down to
3-D for The Hobbit.

Can’t wait for The Hobbit. Re-reading the book now as it has been a long LONG time since I’ve read it. What a wonderful story. I trust del Tor and Jackson to do right by the story.

Of course I meant “better than shooting actors”, as the actors obviously have to be hired to perform the characters, they just won’t be seen…

The 2 years is not surprising, since the film is 100% CG.

However, it will not look like Christmas Carol, it will be closer to Avatar, seeing as that’s the technology being used.
They’re going with “photo-real, but in the Tintin universe”, so everything we grew up seeing and imagining from the comic books will come to life and the characters will look like themselves, only photo-real.

If they can pull that off, that’s a hell of a lot better than hiring actors who then age out of the parts and may not even look anything like the character.
The only reason Jackson and Spielberg are making it now, is because they got to play with James Cameron’s technology and realized it was possible to make it the way they wanted to see it.

I’m a little confused by the phrase “motion capture.” Does that mean it’s going to look like the animation in the recent Christmas Carol movie? Because I thought that looked terrible.
I used to love reading Tintin! I hope it turns out well.

I think 3d will die down a bit. i definately think going forward we’ll see more of it, but i just dont think its a viable option for some films.
