Reality TV suits a certain mindset.

My kids love 'the Biggest loser',as well as;

'Pakistan's/Fiji's/Russia's/Canada's (insert country here) Next Top model/dishwasher/cleaner/dogwasher/spaghetti farmer (insert occupation here)

They also love:

'Survivor' with 'D' List celebrities losing weight while having plastic surgery while raising 10 kids while overcoming crack addiction and remodelling a new house and garden reality show'!

(I must admit...that show really gets me hooked too) ;)

Too much of a good thing. Maybe all the subliminal advertising and product placement that worries everyone with 3D cinema is already being spoonfed to us via the mindless pap of the 'neon God we made'.

Why do they call it 'vegging out in front of the TV'? Even intelligent peoples' IQs drop an average 20 points watching these shows!

Quick! An injection of History channel STAT! LOL Save the human mind!

*sigh*

It is dumb to simply agree with everything the majority of people like, going with trends, etc. But it is just as stupid to specifically go against everything the majority of people like. basing your own opinions on what other people think of it, whether in line or against, is equally dumb in my opinion. Yes the "masses" make pretty stupid preferences a lot of the times. But they aren't wrong about EVERYTHING. Just because someone is in-line with what the majority thinks on a certain issue doesn't mean you are less "cool" or unique. I go against the grain on many things, I hate basketball, rap music (*gasp* yep, I just said that), drinking, clubbing, console gaming, etc. And these are basically all the most popular things now-a-days in this country.

But while I go against the grain on some things, I also go along with others on other things. But not BECAUSE it's popular, because I enjoy those things for my own reasons. I really can care less what others think, I like or dislike things for my own reasons.

But yah, the "masses" would decide how things will go, but imagine what kind of place we would live in if everything will go exactly opposite of what people want...

I'm just validating Tony's point that the masses (idiots) will choose the direction they want to see in movies Ken. Just like the masses have changed Tv into a vast wasteland of reality programs and info-tainment.

You watch political propaganda with toilet humor (Family Guy) but not Dirty Jobs, Modern Marvels, Mythbusters, How It's Made, Man vs. Wild, etc. etc. Such a sad existence...

:-D lol, just kidding man, but those are my shows, I like House too, but not enough to actually try to catch it when it's on, just see it online later when I feel like it... I also like Dexter, but no Showtime, so I wait for the DVD's...

Well 790 I understand your consern about 3d taking over and it is possible that that could happen, I still think there is a big enough 2d crowd out there to not let that happen, but again your putting all your blame on Katzenberg, but he and his goons are not your problem. Your problem boils down to the patrons that are buying the tickets to the 3d movies. They are the ones in the end that are allowing this 3d wave to gain traction so far. 2 to 4 people buying a 3d ticket to everyone one person that buys a 2d ticket. If you are the one who does not like 3d then yes that would be annoying. If just a handful of people boycott 3d then it is not going to make much of a difference. That is why the ice man dilverer lost his job, over time people wanted the convinence of the electric freezer rather than rely on the ice box. I'm sure some of those ice companies and their employees where not happy that they were forced out of business, but in the end it boils down to the private citizens as a whole making a choice of what they want. If enough people want 2d it will hang on, if not then see 2d go away.

@greenknight

for me, the only tv I watch is Discovery, History, and TruTV. I'm moving soon, and will have to sign up for cable, gonna go for the digital cable package not for HBO, not for Showtime, or anything, but because they have Discovery HD and History HD, woot, lol. I hope they have the Science Channel and the Military channel in that lineup too...

Tony, I think what concerns some of us is that Katzenberg and others want 3D to be standard in ALL movies within 10 years. He has publicly said this in a room full of studio heads, theatre owners and media moguls.

Can you imagine films like, "The Visitor" or "Slumdog Millionare" in 3D. That's what's down the line.

I think I'm self aware enough to avoid 3D films. Not watching them is something l already do... My comments on this thread concern the big picture,,,

If you don't like 3D don't watch them. (Yeah I figured that out for myself)
Thanks for the advice.

Gottarhyme, your assuming that no one likes reality shows. Atcually there are probably millions of people who like the reality shows. I absolutely hate nascar racing, but on sunday afternoon there it is on tv. Now I realize that there are a lot of people out there that like nascar, my dad is one. There is a guy at my work that loves it and has nascar stuff on his desk. Now I would not go out and try to get the networks to stop brodcasting nascar races. All I would do is turn the channel or do something else if someone where watching nascar. Just because I don't like it, I don't expect it to dissappear, there are plenty of other choices out there for me as well.
Isn't that how it should be, choices for things I like that you don't, and choices for things you like that I don't. In the end however, for companies to offer a choice there has to be enough people out there that are willing buy, use, or watch that probuce. If you had a lemonade stand to make a living and no one was buying your lemonade how long would you offer it for sale. So people forget that people are paying for the 3d movies and that is why they are there. People want to see them, are willing to drive further and pay more to see them. Otherwise they would just dissappear.

Just because I don’t like it, I don’t expect it to dissappear, there are plenty of other choices out there for me as well.

Not exactly a fair comparison. The reality shows are replacing better shows because they are cheaper to make and draws larger audiences without much effort. So it's not as much of an OPTION (which is an addition to) but rather a replacement, so there is a loss. 3D movies is purely an OPTION since the SAME movie is being shown in 2D. So really there is no loss, if you don't want to see the movie in 3D, just go to a 2D showing. It's not REPLACING the 2D version, just adding a 3D version. So it's not like someone telling you to turn off your tv if you don't want to watch reality shows, it's like if they made a reality tv channel and all reality shows will air there and all of your favorite "normal" shows will air in their normal networks, THEN it becomes a good comparison since you're not losing your regular shows and you can simply not turn it to that channel if you don't wish to see reality tv shows...

I don't know...I hate reality TV, and was told about 6 years back, that if I didn't like it, I had the choice to 'switch off and change the channel'

Well, I did both, and now look! They (Reality TV shows) have bred and multiplied to a ridiculous level as I once predicted. :(

We need more people to express their opinion, not less. Otherwise, the only decent media will be 'old' reruns of the glory days.
