Here's what to expect from Pennyworth season 2. Created by Gotham writers Bruno Heller and Danny Cannon, the Batman prequel series airs on Epix and centers on the origin story of Batman's butler, Alfred Pennyworth, played by Jack Bannon.

The show's 10-episode first season takes viewers back to 1960's London with Alfred as a former SAS soldier living with his parents and trying to get his new security firm off the ground. It doesn't take long for Alfred's military background to get him caught up in espionage and murder. Joined by his two friends, Bazza (Hainsley Lloyd Bennett) and Dave Boy (Ryan Fletcher), Alfred leaves behind a trail of bodies after finding himself thrust into the middle of a conflict that involves the Queen of England, the British government, the CIA, and two revolutionary groups.

Over the course of Alfred's journey, he's endured many hardships, including the death of his fiancé, Esme (Emma Corrin). Alfred has also encountered the parents of Bruce Wayne, Thomas (Ben Aldridge) and Martha Kane (Emma Paetz). Season 1 explored the beginnings of his relationships with these characters, and how they factor into his story. Will Pennyworth season 2 go even further?

Considering Pennyworth season 1 took about seven months to finish production, and a 2020 premiere is planned for season 2, a fall debut makes the most sense for the series. Pennyworth season 2's January 2020 production start would have it likely wrap sometime in August, perfect timing for an October or November premiere.

Pennyworth Season 2 Story Details

Pennyworth - Alfred and Thomas Wayne

Alfred Pennyworth still has a long way to go before he can become Batman's butler. Season 1 has focused on battling the Raven Society and the No Name League, so season 2 will likely put Alfred back in danger, but with new enemies. Another storyline that still needs a resolution is the mystery of what really happened between Martha and the Satanist cult leader. Also, season 1 has only begun to explore Thomas and Martha's relationship, so this is something that's sure to play out in season 2 as well. There's also the small matter of Alfred sleeping with the Queen of England in the season 1 finale, which is impossible to imagine not having further consequences.
