One of the surprisingly better panel presentations at San Diego Comic-Con this summer was that of Paul, the alien adventure-comedy by Greg Mottola (Adventureland, Superbad). While the title does little to help sell the film, Paul features an all-star comedy cast which includes Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Seth Rogen, Sigourney Weaver, Jason Bateman, Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader and Jane Lynch.

Paul is a story about two comic book geeks, played by Pegg and Frost, who travel around the U.S. hitting comic conventions and as they near Area 51, they encounter an actual alien (voiced by Rogen) who needs their help. The first officially released trailer has released and you can watch it below.

The one-minute Paul teaser trailer comes courtesy of MSN and gives a good idea of what the film is about, but not of what style of comedy moviegoers will see. Paul is an R-rated adult comedy, making it that much more unique that it features a CGI-alien as its title character.

This teaser doesn't do the film, or the laughs it will offer, any justice and I wish that those who view this had the chance to see the footage from the Paul panel at Comic-Con. Fortunately, we can look forward to the red band trailer and other footage that will showcase the biggest selling point the movie has to offer, the cast of the film.

Fans of Superbad, Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead will eat this movie up when it debuts next Spring so don't let this trailer deter you. Trust me when I say that the alien Seth Rogen voices in Paul is extremely different than the one he voiced in Monsters vs Aliens, most notably in their vocabularies of adult words...

Paul opens in theaters March 18, 2011.
