paul alien movie trailer Paul Teaser Trailer With Simon Pegg & Nick Frost

One of the surprisingly better panel presentations at San Diego Comic-Con this summer was that of Paul, the alien adventure-comedy by Greg Mottola (Adventureland, Superbad). While the title does little to help sell the film, Paul features an all-star comedy cast which includes Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Seth Rogen, Sigourney Weaver, Jason Bateman, Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader and Jane Lynch.

Paul is a story about two comic book geeks, played by Pegg and Frost, who travel around the U.S. hitting comic conventions and as they near Area 51, they encounter an actual alien (voiced by Rogen) who needs their help. The first officially released trailer has released and you can watch it below.

The one-minute Paul teaser trailer comes courtesy of MSN and gives a good idea of what the film is about, but not of what style of comedy moviegoers will see. Paul is an R-rated adult comedy, making it that much more unique that it features a CGI-alien as its title character.

This teaser doesn’t do the film, or the laughs it will offer, any justice and I wish that those who view this had the chance to see the footage from the Paul panel at Comic-Con. Fortunately, we can look forward to the red band trailer and other footage that will showcase the biggest selling point the movie has to offer, the cast of the film.

Fans of Superbad, Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead will eat this movie up when it debuts next Spring so don’t let this trailer deter you. Trust me when I say that the alien Seth Rogen voices in Paul is extremely different than the one he voiced in Monsters vs Aliens, most notably in their vocabularies of adult words…

Paul opens in theaters March 18, 2011.

  1. I’m very glad you added the disclaimers about this trailer not really representing the movie because if you hadn’t I would have been extremely disappointed right now… this is an awful trailer, but luckly my trust in the cast and Greg Mottola can get past it.

Just watched it again. Wow. Bad CGI, lousy set-up and only one laugh. I have faith though, I have faith…

  2. There is also the possibility that unlike most comedies, they arent sjowing all the funniest parts on the very first 60 second teaser trailer.

  3. haha i found it interesting, how was it a horrible trailer? it was just a teaser. it’s a comedy movie, who cares about the CGI anyway? oh well i think this will be a funny movie :)

  4. It’s written by Pegg and Frost. It will be good.

  5. After my less-then-friendly interview with a hungover Simon Pegg at Comic-Con, I have NO desire to see this film.

Maybe that will change down the line…

    • That actually happened? No joke?

    • I met Pegg the other day, he was very friendly. Signed a DVD even though he didn’t have too. Maybe Kofi just rubbed him up the wrong way, hard to imagine, but there you go.

  6. I also dont get what the big fuss is about… i mean it’s the one of the first teasers. And i actually applaud the teaser for setting up some type of story/plot. Sure i didnt laugh but i expect im going to be laughing a ton at the actual release.

  7. they are the only ones out there who keep the “buddy comedy” alive..its their 3rd one together and i hope they do more..i’ve got a 3yr old and she loved hot fuzz and shawn of the dead..i only hope that this new one has a lil more madcap events..

  8. I find Mr Pegg and Mr Frost really funny. A little fact for you, they both used to work for a fast food joint, that’s where they met and when Simon got his big break he invited Nick to join him. I think that’s why they make the best buddy movies, ‘cos they are real buddies (plus awesome comic actors).

  9. Man, I would have gotten in to see the Paul panel at SDCC if SOMEONE hadn’t decided to stab someone else in the eye with a pen! Gosh!

  10. I’m only seein this because of Sigourney Weaver

  11. The Alien looks like Roger in American Dad :P
