Since Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler) won the Pawnee City Councillor election at the end of Parks and Recreation season 4 and her fiancee, Ben Wyatt (Adam Scott), was hired as a political campaign manager in Washington, the show has seen several real life political figures make cameo appearances. John McCain, Barbara Boxer, and Olympia Snowe have all appeared in episodes of season 5.

Leslie has plenty of political idols, but as we learned early in the series, only one is on her "celebrity sex list" - and that's recently re-elected Vice President Joe Biden. Poehler's character has been hilariously infatuated with Biden from the beginning of the series, going so far as to almost concede defeat in her own election in exchange for Biden's phone number.

Now, Leslie Knope's dream of meeting her perfect man is about to come true. Parks and Rec showrunner Mike Schur revealed to Entertainment Weekly that Biden will make an appearance on the November 15th episode. With the production crew already on location in Washington D.C. in July, Schur said landing Biden was "so much less difficult that we ever possibly imagined." Schur went on to say:

"His staff really loves the show, and he apparently had watched the show with his family and his family liked it..."

Biden and Knope

In the context of the show, Ben Wyatt introduces Leslie to her hero and crush as a secret engagement present. Schur noted the importance of Biden's brief appearance not only comedically, but also to the character of Leslie Knope as well:

"We treated it in the writing and the execution like our main character was meeting her hero. They have a conversation where she does what you would imagine Leslie Knope would do when meeting Joe Biden, which is she loses control of herself a little bit. She gets really goofy and giddy around him."

Schur also said Biden was a great sport, gracious to the show and even ad-libbed a line that ended up in the final cut of the episode.

"He was very nice and charming. He was clearly a big fan of Amy. It was the day the Emmy nominations came out and when he walked through the door he congratulated her on her Emmy nomination..."

Parks and Recreation - featuring Joe Biden - airs Thursday, November 15th @9:30pm on NBC.
