At this point most moviegoers know whether or not they’re fans of the Paranormal Activity franchise – but that hasn’t stopped those who haven’t been frightened and/or intrigued by the first two films from expressing their displeasure over the upcoming Paranormal 3.

On the other hand, fans of the franchise (including yours truly) have for the most part been enthused by the creepy atmosphere of the Paranormal Activity 3 teaser trailer and the viral clips that have recently surfaced online. Today, we have the full Paranormal Activity 3 trailer to share.

For those who are not yet aware: PA3 is actually a prequel to the first two films. This time around, we will learn how sisters Katie (the victim-turned-demon from PA1) and Kristi (the victim of PA2) were terrorized as kids by the demonic entity that would later return and shatter their adult lives. As we know from the first two films, the young girls emerge from the events of this prequel with little to no memory of what occurred – and judging by the chilling events depicted in this Paranormal Activity 3 trailer, there’s good reason to forget:

At the very least, you gotta love the Poltergeist reference.

One (fair) criticism that has often been leveled against these films is that they are a slow-burn build to a quick-flash violent ending. That was certainly true for PA1, though PA2 did have a few more moments of ghostly chills. However, based on the scenes glimpsed in this latest trailer, PA3 will be upping the amount of demonic terror and mayhem by a good margin. From the “bump game” in the (hopefully) early scenes to the requisite “supernatural expert” getting his head bashed in, it seems the demon in PA3 will be meaner and (thankfully) much quicker about his work.

That hint of more chills and thrills is likely insufficient to lure those who already dislike this franchise – but for the rest of us, PA3 looks like it’s going to be a bit of good Halloween fun.

Paranormal Activity 3 will be in theaters on October 21st.

  1. I’ve personally refrained from making any hasty judgements–but after this trailer . . . This is starting to look like a terrible movie. The low budget scares were effective in the first PA because it was used sparingly and not too much was shown, leaving much to the imagination. Watching a person slamming their head against the table just looks hilarious and the flying woman looked extremely ridiculous. Either the trailer has given away too much or the some of the effects are getting old and comical.

      • PA1 was all about the suspense, anticipation, and build up. Now you have PA3 which pretty much looks like a spook-a-second. You now have more knock-knocks, door shutting, moving chairs, and flying people. I guess people couldn’t sit there and handle the build up of intense moments. Congratulations–another ADHD film has been born. I hope it will be able to top each event after the next, because if doesn’t, everything is going to look stale.

Leaving much to the imagination is an effect scare tactic whether you think the argument is dull or not. Twisting the argument into an extreme does not make it any less viable. Nice try though.

      • I couldn’t agree more. And that’s how I felt after seeing this trailer. :)

    • I would have to disagree. I hated PA. It was too boring and the characters where too damn annoying. As for PA3, and I can’t believe I’m saying this, looks pretty damn good. Can’t wait!

    • Personally I hate the past two movies. The first one was hilarious to watch and the second was so stupid that it wasnt entertaining in the slightest. And both had equally lame trailers. However, this one actually looks interesting. And in then clip where she “flies” it looks more like something is picking her up and walking away with her as if it about to throw her somewhere.

  2. I’m liking the looks of this now. Finally some depth into how it all started. Looking forward to watching this!

    • You and me both. :)

  3. I agree with Dson…they are putting in to much in the trailers PA1 and 2 were really good, the trailers both looked very suspicious not too much shown but this trailer gave away too much and I think they are egsajurating too much on the slams etc..I hope it doesnt turn out to be another SAW trilogy, the first 3 Saws were great but after watching the last 4 im like ok when is it going to end the stories were just stupid

    • On the dot, I’m glad someone understands.

  4. I’m looking forward to this. I really enjoy the “real” look of these films – helps me to imagine it all really happening. And they creep me the hell out, which is what I want from this sort of movie. :)

    • Vic totally agree! I love these moves just to creep myself out and inl think this looks great! I’ve lover the first 2 and can’t wait to see this. I think it looks cool. Love the found footage look for these. !

  5. Im hopeing that the ending climax scenes will be the second movie’s ending on steroids. And No This dose not look like a ADHD movie in my book.

  6. This looks the best of the three, definitely will see it.

  7. ow mmm god that is good
