paranormal activity 3 Paranormal Activity 3 Confirmed With Release Date

[Check out the first Paranormal Activity 3 trailer!]

After playing at a few film festivals and eventually getting a limited theatrical release, Paranormal Activity rocked the box office through a mind-blowing and plague-like spread of positive word-of-mouth and some innovative marketing. It was able to bring in nearly $200 million worldwide on a budget of a mere $15,000, making it one of the most profitable films ever made.

From there, Paranormal Activity writer and director Oren Peli earned himself a fast-tracked sequel for which he produced, and it debuted last month. While this time they had the cashflow to play with, a similar success story occurred and Paranormal Activity brought in $150 million+ on a $3 million production budget. Using rocket science-like deduction, that meant Paranormal Activity 3 would be on its way and now it’s confirmed.

Our friends at Dread Central have the exclusive after talking to Oren Peli directly and he was able to confirm for them the official release date of Paranormal Activity 3. The third installment of the supernatural-horror franchise will hit theaters October 21, 2011!

That makes it three Octobers in a row and Paranormal Activity is now a full-fledged franchise – if it wasn’t already. Paramount and Peli will have to be very creative in order to deliver another interesting sequel that can offer a similar success to that of its predecessors, in quality as well as financially.

Can Paranormal Activity be the next annual Halloween movie franchise, taking over for Saw which apparently ended with Saw 3D last month? Can they extend the story down new paths or tell different stories entirely that will keep the fans coming back for more? Our own Kofi Outlaw discussed the topic of Paranormal Activity 3 and whether the found-footage format will still work, offering an intriguing idea for the next film and its characters.

  1. definately want another one to be made. hope it’s in the home video format too. I think this is partly what makes it so scary

  2. If there is going to be a Paranormal Activity 3 it should whether be about katie & Hunter, but i dont think it should be because that wouldnt make sense. She was already possessed and took Hunter. What happens after that? where are we going to see the camera footage that the movies have that makes it look like real life? not made like a regular movie. thats the best thing about Paranormal Activity, it looks real.
so i think it should be about their mom and how the demon followed her, and got attached to their family. Kaiti and Kristy never said if their mom was dead, so if shes “crazy”, she would be in a crazy home/mental hospital where they would have security cameras everywhere, which would keep the movies style. Make it look real.
So yeah that’s what i think.

If Paranormal Activity 3 is made like a regular movie it would lose its “touch”. and if u guys are gonna make it that way, idk…
People and fans of this franchise loves its style, makes it look real with the cameras, and if its made like a MOVIE, many will be disappointed

  3. WOOAH! i cannot wait for the third movie! i am just getting into scary movies and i started with paranormal activity 1 and it was AMAZING. you HAVE to see them both! and i cant wait for this new one to come out!

  4. imm soooooo a huge fan of these movies and saw alike. i so can not wait to see the trailer for this movie. although im having a feeling it could be kinda stupid and draggy. so im hoping they bump it up a few and give it a good plot line. im very disapointed wen they made the “alternate ending” ofr the first one! it didnt make sence with the second well anyways i cant wait and i hope its in 3D LOL.

  5. hmm i think that they should kinda make the movie go down the road farther and kinda try to make something like insidious. maybe they could make the 3rd one about what hapens to poor little hunter and then if they make a 4th one they should go onto hunters familey if he dosent die. idk just some verry random opinions

  6. I agree with jessicakorn regarding the style in which ‘Paranormal Activity’ was created. It is really great! It’s not your usual camera thing but it’s made through house security cameras capturing every angle of the house. I watched the first one in the theater and I was literally shaking while going out the cinema. I didn’t know anything about it. As the cams unfolded what it is all about, it made me attached to it. This is really scary because we’re talking about a real demon here and not some ghost of a dead person. ‘Paranormal Activity’ proves that waiting.. waiting.. waiting.. and waiting is scarier than being attacked all of a sudden by an entity. Your patience actually contributes to the horrific aspect of it. One knows that an entity is out there but makes you evaluate if it’s indeed true or not. I just watched the second one moments ago. It becomes more interesting now as the story unfolds further and further. Why is Katie and Cristy being stalked by the demon? It was briefly stated in the second one that their great grandmother made a deal with an entity that the first born male child in their family lineage will be the exchange for their desire for acquiring wealth and power. I can’t wait for the third one. By the way, I find both the first and second one to be truly scary but the first just knock me out. The demon surfaces in the end only after possessing Katie then we all know what happened to Micah after. Well, it was only Micah and Katie in the first unlike in the second one wherein there were five of them in the house including the maid. Fewer people means more frightening.

  7. Best Scary Movie Every Better Than The First One & The Second One.

  8. One Of My Favorite Parts At The End Of The Movie Is Wind The Kitchen Table & The Other Things Haved Rent On The Flood & The Other One Is The One At The End Of The Movie Is (D”s) Scariest Part Every Is Wind We Found Out The Grandmother Is The Witch
