paranormal activity 2 Paranormal Activity 2 Trailer Being Pulled From Theaters

The word is in that the new trailer for the supernatural horror sequel Paranormal Activity 2 is so utterly terrifying that the World Health Organization (WHO) has ordered theaters carrying it to include a label warning of the potentially deadly effects viewing it could have on your health.

Yes, I’m kidding, but it seems the Cinemark movie theater chain is in fact pulling the Paranormal Activity 2 trailer from several of its theaters.

The reason, you ask?  The trailer apparently scared the bejesus out of several Texan Twihards who showed up for the midnight premiere of Eclipse on Tuesday night.  In fact, reports are now coming in that it caused several teenage girls to jump so high that they actually caused irreparable damage to the screening auditorium’s ceiling as well :-P.

Yeah, yeah, I made that last bit up too but really, how can I take this story seriously?  Ignoring the silly idea that in this day and age a trailer for any movie could scare moviegoers THAT badly – the teaser for Paranormal Activity 2 is the one to do so?  I suppose it is a bit creepy, but isn’t that the point?  Wasn’t it designed to scare moviegoers?

This move does make sense when you look at it from Cinemark’s point of view.  They are a business, so customer satisfaction is definitely important to them.  I can only presume that the theater execs received enough in the way of complaints that they were really concerned that the trailer could damage their attendance numbers for Eclipse.  Go figure, I guess.

What do you think?  Were you actually freaked out by the Paranormal Activity 2 trailer?  Does this seem like an overreaction on Cinemark’s part? Is this great free promotion for the film?  Sound off in the comments section below.

Paranormal Activity 2 will arrive in theaters in the U.S. on October 22nd, 2010.  See it… if you dare  icon wink Paranormal Activity 2 Trailer Being Pulled From Theaters

  1. The first one sucked. Why is there even a sequel? And why is it attached to a tween film like Twilight? WTF!

    • Twilight is PG-13 I believe the trailer is too if not less in rating. Why are people that may or not be of age watching a PG-13 movie without their mommy and daddy making sure they are ready for something of a PG-13 level?

  2. J Jonah Jamison would definitely call this a publicity stunt!

    • hahahah 790! man, what a bunch of pantywastes out there in texas

  3. That is ridiculous. I hate people who complain about everything. The trailer has been approved by whoever approves the trailers that allows them to be seen by all ages. Ugh people like that just piss me off.

    • That would be the MPAA. But yeah, this is just stupid. Sounds a lot like a publicity stunt to me.

  4. good publicity for the movie , lol

  5. This is ridiculous! I’m from Texas and my local theater is Cinemark owned, and this is emberassing! There is nothing scary in that trailer and it was approved for all audience members.

  6. Gotta give it up to the marketing guys for these films, they do some pretty good work.

  7. Well, I have to take something like this with a pinch of salt I’m afraid.

This type of thing has been going on with horror movies since day one, whether it is having ambulance crews on hand, tales of people fainting and dying of fright.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this is the latest smart marketing tool of some agency or other in a bid to label the film “The Movie Too Hardcore For The Twilight Generation.”

I also wouldn’t be surprised if it works!

  8. As silly as it may sound, they did it to themselves. Why would you put that preview before a movie like twilight. Its a bunch of young teenage girls who aren’t going to see that movie. Seems like bad marketing to me

  9. i dont care for the paranormal activity movies but i love this. scare the heck out of twi-hards :D

  10. I don’t know why a trailer for a horror movie was attached to a romance flick. Yes I know it’s about vampire but nothing about the twilight series says horror. Wrong audience for the fare but that’s par for the course with trailers, they never really match up to the audience of the feature playing.

  11. What??? I saw the trailer for it, it’s not scary at all, it looks pretty retarded actually…

  12. I am thinking this is all just a publicity stunt, seriously, it’s not scary at all…

  13. Very simple to digest this one, because I’m from Texas. No one complained… this is a marketing ploy. How can I know that, because I thought this was an awesome trailer… not to mention, I can’t name a single person here in SE Tex who didn’t see the first one, nor who would complain about a second. If this isn’t a marketing scheme then simply direct the complaints to me and let the facepalming commence.

  14. I heard the trailer is so scary, President Obama and the Surgeon General come on screen just before it starts to warn people!!!

I say it’s a publicity stunt, Cinemark is in on it! It’s conspiracy I tells ya, a conspiracy.

  15. That’s pretty silly, cause that’s what a horror movie is supposed to do is make you jump. I saw the trailer too abd I for one was not scared one bit. Because I KNOW IT’S A MOVIE! I say get a dang life people.

  16. This is definitely nothing more than a stunt to drum up hype for the movie. I just hope the movie is good enough to warrant it.

  17. omg this was so scary but i kind of scary that people like me love i think that they are way over reacting

  18. man i live in austin tx cinemark is the main theater around here sucks they pulled it wanted to c it on the big screen.

  19. I saw the trailer last night and people in the theater laughed at it. It did not seem particularly creepy. Maybe there was a little anxiety in watching it (are they really going to do something bad to that dog and the baby??), but not scary.

What really bugs me about trailers these days is when they show the entire plot of the movie in the trailer, including the climax or ending scenes. Talk about spoiler alert. Why bother watching the movie now that they ruined any surprises? How is this good marketing?

  20. Nothing good ever comes out if Twilight.

  21. Ha ha ha! Stupid Texan Twilight fans.

  22. Never saw/interested in the first one so don’t very much care for the second one. Horror movies nowadays are lame.

  23. someone should get a hold of the trailer in texas and play it somewhere outside near a high way or populated area preferbly against a tall building and see what happens…

  24. Is that supposed to be a mirror closet door in the bedroom? Now that is creepy, the baby being in the mirror but not in the room itself.

  25. Are you deadly sure this isn’t just an AMAZING promotional tool by the PA lads? This kind of press is gold if you’re making a horror film.

    Also, friggin’ Emo vamps.

I hope the sequel is good. I enjoyed the night/day cycle of the first film, but it never made good on the great anticipation it built. Hopefully with more money they can do that.

  26. Publicity stunt

  27. Looks like a publicity stunt to me. Like the old days when producers of schlock would give away life insurance policies.
