Paranormal Activity 21 Paranormal Activity 2 Snags A Director

Much like the Captain America casting fiasco search, the fanfare and uproar over who would direct Paranormal Activity 2 has now ended in a Friday afternoon fizzle.

At first Paramount tapped Kevin Greutert, the director of Saw VI to helm the Paranormal Activity sequel – but then the Saw franchise stole Greutert back to helm Saw VII. After that, we got word that Paramount was trying big-name directors like Brian De Palma into the Paranormal Activity 2 director’s chair.

Today however, we learn from Paramount and Paranormal Activity director Oren Peli that Tod ‘Kip’ Williams (The Door in the Floor) is going to be directing Paranormal Activity 2.

While it should be obvious that my enthusiasm is…limited, Peli is singing praise about the studio’s choice of director for the sequel to his pet project:

“I have some awesome news for the fans of ‘Paranormal Activity…Director Kip Williams will join us for the next chapter of the story. We are thrilled to have Kip working with us. He is the guy we want at the helm, because he knows exactly what we want to deliver to the fans… and I can’t wait to be a part of what he’s putting together. I don’t want to spoil the story but I promise it’ll surprise you. Stay tuned.”

Now mind you, half of the people who saw Paranormal Activity came away hating it, so already there’s a hurdle that needs to be jumped. Having the-director-nobody-really-knows helming the sequel is going to incur a lot of Blair Witch 2 comparisons. Just wait and see.

Anyhow, that’s one more movie mystery solved – now on to what the story of Paranormal Activity 2 will be. Recent comments from Micah Sloat, star of the first film, suggest he and costar Katie Featherston could be involved, even though [SPOILER ALERT!!!] they both met grisly ends in the first film.

I’m sure we’ll be hearing more soon enough.

Paranormal Activity 2 should start shooting in May and is slated to take on rival horror film Saw VII on October 22, 2010.

  1. I LOVED this film.

I saw it in the cinema on my own and I shat myself. Worse that the Blair Witch by miles (then again, I didn't see that in the cinema).

This films builds up gradually and make you anaylse every shadow and noise = awesome!

The only downside was if they saw monster footprints and Katie get dragged down the hall, why the hell (no pun intended) didn't they leave immediately???
I know The Demon follows you but still, sleep somewhere public or anywhere just get out of a relatively empty house! Got to your parents or something!

I'd have been out of there when the TV came on by itself…:S
