I read it after seeing the film way back when and can say the film changed things so much that it ruined the story. I say no to live action but yes to telling the story the proper way it should have been to begin with. Hand-drawn animation preferably. The book is really great. I think they really didn't do it justice then. I think that the idea of doing animation/live action with super real cg characters is going to be easy to pull off. These days, that's the easy part.
