Ryan Reynolds will soon grace the screen once again as a super-powered being in a tight, colorful spandex outfit...in the indie film Paper Man, the trailer for which is now available online.

Yes, in addition to his respective turn in the upcoming comic book films Deadpool and Green Lantern, Reynolds will next appear on-screen as the superhero Captain Excellent, the imaginary friend and creation of eccentric writer Richard Dunn (Jeff Daniels), in the new film from first-time writing/directing team Kieran & Michele Mulroney.

Have a look at the Paper Man trailer:

While you'll certainly recognize Lisa Kudrow as Dunn's exasperated wife, you might also be familiar with Emma Stone (Superbad), the outcast teenager that befriends Dunn in the film.  That is, assuming you paid attention to anything besides Reynolds' platinum-blonde hair and Superman-skewering outfit.

That said, Paper Man looks like your average indie flick with its share of oddball characters, quirky sense of humor, and a storyline that involves the struggles of your everyday artistic but schlubby loser looking to get his life on track.

Keep an eye out for this flick though, as the Mulroneys will be writing the screenplay for Guy Ritchie's upcoming Sherlock Holmes 2Paper Man might be an indicator of the kind of wit and humor we can expect in Robert Downey Jr.'s next outing as the famous detective.

Paper Man opens in theaters in the U.S. on April 23, 2010.
