Starz releases new images from Outlander season 3, depicting Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan), before the trailer debuts Sunday. Outlander returns with season 3 to the small screen this fall, after a gap of over a year - season 2 ended in July 2016 - to allow for a long production in several locations. The third season lines up with the book Voyager, and picks up where season 2 left off, with Claire back in her own time period, and Jamie about to head into one of the bloodiest battles in Scottish history.

Fans have already seen some images from the upcoming third season, of Jamie at the Battle of Culloden and Claire walking through the dark battlefield (potentially in a dream sequence). These shots will be in the early episodes, when the battle plays out, before the story starts to move away from the Scottish Highlands and to Jamaica and the high seas. Now, two new images from the upcoming series give fans another look at what to expect in season 3.

The images, released by Starz, show both Claire and Jamie separately. The shot of Claire shows her in a white outfit and gloves, with her hair teased out in the style of the '60s, next to her husband Frank (Tobias Menzies), clapping in a crowd of people. The second shows Jamie sitting on a horse in a wooded area. The images were released along with the news that the trailer for season 3 will air this Sunday, April 16th, in front of the premiere of new limited series The White Princess airing at 8pm ET/PT.

The image of Claire is presumably set at Brianna's (Sophie Skelton) graduation, as we can see the program held by another person in the crowd reads "Class Of..." followed by a list of names. It would also explain why Claire and Frank are dressed up, looking happy together, and clapping. The image of Jamie could be from any scene set in Scotland, as there is nothing in particular to give context.

There's a whole lot to cover in season 3, and fans are looking forward to seeing a little more of Claire in her own time - and to spending more time with characters like Brianna and Roger (Richard Rankin) who become such huge players in the story from this point forward. The season will also spend more time at Culloden itself, which promises some incredible battle and action scenes.

Of course, these images don't tell fans anything new - although with a series like this one that is based on books (and follows them closely), there aren't really any major surprises possible!
