outlander exclusive Outlander Movie: Exclusive New Image & Release News

Here’s what looks to be a cool movie that’s been slowly crawling and scraping its way towards release literally for years, now. You may have heard of it (since we’ve mentioned it here before) – it’s called Outlander and it has the sweet little concept of pitting Vikings against aliens.

You’re looking at an exclusive new pic from the movie above, which shows a monster (called a MOORWEN in the film) assaulting a Viking village. A priest has stepped forward in a what will soon be a strikingly unsuccessful attempt to stop it. The light comes from the creature itself, which is bioluminescent. (Thanks to writer/executive producer of the film, Dirk Blackman)

We posted a few weeks ago that Outlander was finally getting a theatrical U.S. release date and we have an update for you. It’s going to have a limited release on January 23rd in the following cities:

  • San Francisco, CA
  • Chicago, IL
  • Philadelphia, PA
  • Washington D.C.
  • Dallas, TX
  • Atlanta, GA
  • Boston, MA
  • Houston, TX
  • Seattle, WA
  • Miami, FL
  • San Diego, CA
  • Detroit, MI
  • Sacramento, CA
  • Orlando, FL
  • Tampa, FL

The hope is that it will get a wider distribution, but there’s no guarantee of that since the distributor, The Weinstein Co. is strapped for cash.

As a bonus, here are some more stills from the film:

  1. I remember reading about this awile back here on SCREENRANT and my question would be if it is any good why wait soo long to release it?

  2. Vikings vs. aliens? I’ll take the vikings plus 17.

  3. Caramba Vic,

Eh serio que voce fala portugues?

Sou do Brasil e estou vivendo aqui faz dois anos ja. Me perdoe pela falta de acentuacao, mas o meu teclado nao suporta.

Muito legal saber se for verdade.

    Grande Abraco,

  4. @Ray O

Well it’s a very “niche” movie – hard to get a distribution deal sometimes. Look at all the great movies at Sundance that never make it to theaters.

  5. @Larry Rocha

Yup, it’s true. My typing isn’t up to speed, though. :-)

  6. Bom Saber,

On another note. I am kinda pissed I will have to wait for a Dvd release to see this since I didn’t see Denver on your list. Maybe the European Dvd is out already? Any news?

    Thanks and bom trabalho,

  7. siiiick san diego gets a showing i’m there!

  8. @Larry

I believe it’s still playing in theaters overseas? Also, I was just informed it may open in additional cities not mentioned in the list above.

  9. Hey Vic what about Pueto Rico

  10. I’m here in Seattle and if I can get some free time, I’ll go see it. Looks like it’ll be a good one, in my opinion.

  11. @JBREX

    No idea, bud.

  12. Yeah, I was told that it is getting to more cities, But this list is just the initial release, so that’s where you’ll see it on the 23rd. Beyond that, how many cities and for how long will depend on you and me and everyone else getting people to go see it.

  13. Woot, Miami, FL. I’m there.

  14. I’ve just had a look. The dvd is on a website I use to buy movies a lot, but says coming soon. So it seems to have been put together, just not distributed yet.

    Can’t wait.

  15. I have been following Outlander for awhile as well. I’d love to sit down and watch it after what I have seen of the film. Looks badass. Wish it were coming to CT.

    Outlander Trailers 1 and 2:

  16. This “alien ship” actually looks like a ship from the movie ALIEN. Oh, well, original designs (and ideas) are rare these days…

Let’s just hope it alle makes sense – or at least fun – in the end.

  17. Well, what if that is simply the ideal design for a ship to operate at an optimum level? So that’s why ships look the same from movie to movie?? ;-)

    LOL, just kidding dude.

  18. Yeah – I am really upset that it won’t be a true wide release, because I am in it! Yours truly is a background viking. Awesome time – spoke with Hurt at length. Don’t forget Ron Perlman is in this thing too!! :-)

  19. I really f-ing want to see this movie.

    WIDE release, please!

  20. Harvey Weinstein’s an idiot, I mean doesn’t it have the most openings in Dallas, didn’t know the Texans were so into genre action adventure films ……and as far as “niche” movie, sure, but with such ‘niche ” actors as John Hurt, Ron Perlman, Jim Caviezel, doesn’t seem so “niche” to me…….

  21. @Ken J:

    You’ve got a point there!

There are not too many designers in the industry that do those designs.

Take Ron Cobb and Syd Mead in the 80s for example. No wonder OUTLAND, BLADE RUNNER and ALIEN have a lot in common.

Same thing with Ken Adam in the Bond movies.

I also remember seeing GOLDENEYE for the first time and they had those great models there. At one point I was thinking to myself, well, these look a lot like Gerry Anderson’s stuff – or better: his designer’s Derek Meddings.

And ta-da… he was the man behind them. ;)

  22. I’ve seen it Vic! It’s good.

    Outlander Film Review:

  23. Wow!! AWESOME movie. A perfect blend of the future meets the past, Aliens vs. Vikings and a great cast that pulled everything together. This should have been in theaters! Something must have went wrong with it’s distribution company because this should have crawled theaters in the US!
