Oscar Isaac has become one of Hollywood's go-to actors. After breaking out in films such as Drive, Inside Llewyn Davis, and A Most Violent Year, he rose to stardom with the role of Poe Dameron in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. With several films in production and post-production, including Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi, he has added another film to his already packed slate.

Operation Finale is about a group of Israeli spies tracking down notorious Nazi general Adolf Eichmann in Argentina in the 1960s so he can stand trial for his war crimes. Based on a true story, Isaac will star as Peter Malkin, an Israeli Mossad agent who holds a deep hatred for the Nazis after they killed his sister and her children and who is obsessed with finding Eichmann. The screenplay, written by Matthew Orton, is said to be in the same vein as previous Oscar-nominated and winning films such as Argo and Munich. Isaac will also be producing the film, which will be directed by Chris Weitz, a fellow Star Wars vet who co-wrote Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

This is not the first historical drama for Isaac, whose next film is The Promise which debuts on April 21. Despite popcorn flicks such as Star Wars and X-Men: Apocalypse rounding out his filmography, he is mostly known for serious and dramatic films. Isaac received his first Golden Globe award for his leading role in the HBO miniseries Show Me a Hero in 2016, which was also a period piece.

With a Globe award already under his belt, it's only a matter of time before Isaac receives his first Academy Award nomination. Many were predicting he would receive one for either The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara before he dropped out of the film due to scheduling and personal conflicts, while others predict a nomination in the lead actor category for his upcoming film A Foreigner. Operation Finale sounds like a solid Oscar-bait production (no pun intended), so count this among another option for Isaac to receive some long overdue awards attention.

This will also be Isaac's second foray into producing. The first was a short called Lightningface which premiered in 2016. He will not be the first of the Star Wars sequel trilogy's stars to produce their own films; co-star John Boyega formed his own production company, Upper Room Productions, and will be a producer on Pacific Rim 2. This is an excellent career move for the already multi-talented Isaac.

Operation Finale will shoot this fall in Argentina. Screen Rant will keep you updated on news about the production as it is announced.
