  1. Lol! Ben, you and Kofi sure have that song down.

    • It was Rob’s idea. We had a few attempts at Rob and I ooga chaka’ing together but we couldn’t get it to sync up.

  2. Woops, I said Mikkelsen but it was Rufus Sewell who I was thinking of for Tristan + Isolde

  3. I think Wolverine had a cameo, sort of in the first Fantastic Four movie. I remember it being a alternate scene in which Reed Richards morphs his face and hair into Wolverine’s face. It was super goofy and weird but it happened.

  4. The more I think about it the more I think Gravity should and deserves to win Best Picture.
It’s practically a lock for Best Director and every technical award it’s nominated for so how can it not win Best Picture?
Some will point to the script and lack of any awards or nominations for it but this is the rare example IMO of when I’m ok with this being the case.

  5. My favourite movie from 2013 was Prisoners, and I was disappointed that it wasn’t even nominated.

Out of the Best Picture Nominees my favourites (of the ones I’ve seen) are:
    1. Her
    2. American Hustle
    3. Wolf of Wall Street
    4. Gravity
    5. Captain Phillips
    6. Dallas Buyers Club
    7. 12 Years a slave

I haven’t got around to watching Nebraska, and Philomena doesn’t interest me in the slightest.

Having said all of that, I think Gravity is going to win. It has all of the necessary hype around it, and doesn’t seem to have as many detractors as Wolf of Wall Street and American Hustle have.

  6. Ooga Chaka! Ooga Ooga Ooga Chaka!

But yeah, the film that should win Best Picture, based on what I’ve seen is The Wolf of Wall Street. That could change when my copy of Gravity gets here tomorrow though (I know, I know, shame on me that I haven’t seen it yet).

    • Yeah, its kinda inevitable you’ll be disappointed by it watching the first time on home video. Really a ”theater experience” type of film.

  7. 12 Years a Slave was the best movie of the year hands down and it SHOULD win.

I liked The Wolf of Wall Street but it had a lot of problems.

  8. The Wolf of Wall Street is the best, the one who deserves more… But the Academy must give the prize to 12 Years a Slave.

  9. Regarding the Johnny/Sue Storm race difference thing, my brother dated a girl for a while who looked almost completely white, and she has a twin brother who is black, so it can happen. Whether they do have mixed parents, or if they’re adopted, it won’t be dwelled upon.

I’m loving Broad City! its almost like a raunchy girl version of workaholics, except the characters are actually likable at the end of the day. The two girls have been on @Midnight, and Doug Benson’s show, and a few other podcasts and they have been pretty awesome in everything. I look forward to more of them!

Her was really good, but nobody really went to see it. A wider release would have helped it but I just don’t think its going to get any awards. A shame because it was a really unique concept, but yea it was hurt by the touchy subject. On a side note it made me really excited for the the potential future LA shown, I want to live there!

  10. I’m so stoked for Guardians of the Galaxy! I must admit, when I first heard about the whole thing (I never read or even heard of the comics) I thought “A talking racoon? Is this a joke?”. But after a while I warmed up to the idea. By now I’m completely behind it and get the same excited vibe as back in the day when I saw the first trailer for Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Hopefully we will be rewarded with a different outcome this time. Can’t wait for this movie to come out, and I hope it’s not only good but looong! 2 hours minimum!

Still not getting the hate for Terminator: Salvation. Great movie!

I’m pretty sure that Kofi meant a male actor when he called him a “dude”. That was a weak attempt at back-paddling, Ben. :D

As much as I liked The Wolf of Wall Street, it is pretty much Goodfellas all over again, just in a different, less interesting setting. I’m totally rooting for Gravity as well. It achieved what I always for in a movie: showing me something amazing that I’ve never seen before… which brings us right back to a talking, gun-wielding racoon. ;)

    • RE: The Killing, if it were as simple as that, I would have simply cut that part out when I was editing ;)

  11. You know Rob, you don’t have to rub it in. Yeah yeah, whatever, Canada won gold in both Hockey tournaments, its not like it’s a big deal or anything. Hahaha. I just got over it a little and you brought it back up…..

    • Oh man, SO WELL EARNED. Gotta enjoy it, we’d be crushed if we didn’t win gold. We were born on the ice. :)

      • Yeah. That semi final men’s game was a Great game though. Only one goal was needed and we had a lot of chances just couldn’t put one in.

I was rooting for Sweden though in the final only because they have a lot of Red Wings players on the team and it would’ve been a great boost for them to come back after winning a Gold. But Oh well, just gotta look forward to 2018

      • Also, I don’t know about you but I thought that Womens Final was one of he best, hard fought, and emotional games I have seen in a while. I was in to that game 100% even though USA lost. Canada well earned that one.

        • Def! You’re right about good games all around. Still waiting on the NHL’s decision on whether or not their players will be allowed to play in the 2018 Olympics. I think they will be.

  12. Box Office Battle:
    1. The Lego Movie
    2. Non-Stop
    3. Son of God
    4. Pompeii
    5. 3 Days to Kill
    10. Endless Love

    • Box Office Battle

      1- Lego Movie
      2- Non Stop
      3- Son Of God
      4- 3 Days To Kill
      5- Pompeii

      10- Ride Along

    2. Son of God
    3. The Lego Movie
    4. 3 Days to Kill
    5. Monuments men
    10. Ride Along

  14. I was disappointed in Gravity as a story. I know you can’t do much but it felt like a short film. It would have been better as one. It dragged on to me. The movie was great and a great experience also. But I agree with Kofi on Wolf of Wall Street winning, but American Hustle will probably win. I would be happy with that also.

  15. #1 The Lego Movie
    #2 Non-Stop
    #3 Son of God
    #4 Robocop
    #5 3 Days to Kill
    #10 Ride Along

  16. A bit let down you guys didnt talk about The Hunt and the foreign picture category but If any of you have watched it do you think it has a chance of winning, I really hope it does.

    • We talked about The Hunt in the Marvel section of the episode – I totally shouted-out Mads’ performance there as a reason he should play Doctor Strange!

  17. I predict that the Super Hero & fantasy genre will once again – be totally ignored here.

    • Yeah, and I will never understand why. Personally I find the actor performances in Sci-Fi and Fantasy movies a lot more impressive. Almost everyone can turn in a good performance when it’s about all the relatable topics that most dramas are about. But it takes an exceptional actor to sell the outlandish themes of Science-Fiction and Fantasy in the very earnest and excellent manner that we are used to by now.

      • p.s.: just think about it. Would you have trouble giving an emotional performance about something like losing a close person to cancer? Probably not. But now try keeping a straight face while acting out that the Great Destructor of Barglefloxnine is threating to kill Princess Shuckall of Mordumbia. I think these actors can’t be commended enough for what they deliver.

  18. The Wolf of Wall Street will win. Some people say that the Academy won’t do it because it will be controversial but everything is perfect in that movie. Alfonso Cuaron will take Best Director but The Wolf will win Best Picture.

  19. Just curious what was the more disappointing Terminator Salvation or Prometheus?

    • For me, Salvation – mainly because it didn’t expand the mythology in an interesting way.

Prometheus had a lot of problems, and might not have lined up the way Alien fans were hoping, but it raised interesting questions and provided interesting new details to the Alien universe.

      • Ben, you raise up a good point and I think you guys may have talked about it in a podcast but we’ve been hearing about the war, Man vs. Machine for a while in these movies and Salvation was supposed to be that and…went nowhere. It wanted to do something special with the robot that Worthington played but it totally fell flat, not to mention that I have been forcefully fed twenty versions of Kyle Reese and John Connor and there is another Kyle Reese on the way (although Jai Courtney is an up and comer). BTW both films were WAAAAYYY too predictable, especially Prometheus.

  20. That was the best opening you guys have done. I also enjoyed Kofi’s twitter handle. You are really stepping up the podcast game this week, a lot of laughs.

  21. Box office battle

    1 non stop
    2 the Lego movie
    3. 3 day to kill
    4. Son of god
    5 robocop
    10 ride along

  22. Man Kofi really tries too hard in these pod-casts…’bitches’ ‘umm yeah, so yeah’…dude just relax, it’s ok to sound like an adult and not bring race in every single episode. I love how everyone finds the need to laugh even though most of these race comments are horrible attempts at humor.

You guys do a good job overall, but just because you cover geek-rumors exclusively doesn’t mean the podcast can’t sound mature and show some class.

    • Some oughta do a count of the mics dropped over the weeks. :D

  23. Lego movie
    3 days to kill
    Robo cop
    Endless love

  24. The only thing I like about fantasic four is this opening theme to the good animated show

.Also heroes really did go down hill, especially over using characters who were done, such as Larter, who I began to hate, actually no, I do hate her.
And focusing on character like Hiro, Sylar and Peter who as a result kept losing and gaining powers, when they shouldve been relegated to cameos and let new characters come in.
And the season “Villains” killing off the villains in like two episodes.
Also just personal, the cheerleader suddenly becoming gay at college, or even being focused on at all and constantly at odds with HRG, I dont know just made me mad, yet I kept watching because it was super heroes on tv.

  25. 1. Non-Stop
    2. Son of God
    3. LEGO Movie
    4. 3 Days to Kill
    5. RoboCop (2014)
    10. Ride Along
