BBC America's sci-fi thriller series Orphan Black returns to our TV screens for a second season just over a month from now. Starring Tatiana Maslany in most of the main roles, Orphan Black is the story of a secret cloning experiment and the adult clones' fight to live their own lives free of the company that claims to own them.

Not all the clones want to get away, however. In season 2, series protagonist Sarah Manning finds herself squaring off against Rachel Duncan, a clone who was raised by Neolution and is working with her creators to bring the rest of the clones to heel - whether by persuasion or force.

One of the benefits of the Clone Club having less regular meetings - and new stars like Michiel Huisman (Game of Thrones), Michelle Forbes (The Killing) and Patrick J. Forbes (Suits) joining the show - is that a little less of the weight is on Maslany's shoulders.

Speaking in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Maslany said that season 2 was easier to shoot than the first season:

"I was in 99 per cent of the scenes. And sometimes twice or three times in the same scene. And that makes it exhausting. What’s so great about this year is that we have all these incredible actors coming to our show and these new story lines that are expanding, so I don’t have to carry the whole thing."

Maslany's performances are so diverse that it's often easy to forget while watching Orphan Black that the clones are all played by the same actor, even when they're all on screen together.

EW also spoke to Orphan Black co-creator John Fawcett and asked for hints on where the second season will take Sarah and the other clones. The trailers for Orphan Black season 2 have hinted at a lot of danger ahead, including another one of the clones biting the dust, and it seems that Sarah will also get closer to the heart of the mystery.

Fawcett gave a rather cryptic answer:

"We want to expand the world. We want to make the show a little bigger, make the show a little badder, make the show a little more off-center. There are more rabbit holes to go into."

Pieced together, Fawcett and Maslany's statements seem to suggest that season 2 will take a broader focus than just Sarah and her 'sisters.' Perhaps it will even be revealed that Neolution created other sets of clones, or perhaps some of Maslany's roles will be eliminated by further character deaths. It's definitely a dangerous world out there.
