In a clip from the upcoming final season of Orphan Black Helena meets a new clone. One of the highlights of Orphan Black -- as most fans will tell you -- is seeing Tatiana Maslany play so many completely different characters. With the exception of young Charlotte, she plays every female clone on the show -- plus one transgender male. With a collection of wigs and a number of flawless accents, she plays heroes and villains, suburbanites and students, mothers and murderers. Some have only been around for a scene or an episode, and others every episode since day one.

Mostly, she plays five clones -- or sestras -- who have been around since the first season. Sarah, Allison, Cosima, Helena, and Rachel. Not only are each of these five women very different people, but they are also very different people than they used to be. Each of them has suffered greatly in the last few years, and through a variety of experiences all of them have changed. Arguably none more so than Helena, who was an adversary when the series began but is now a trusted and cared for member of Clone Club -- loved by her sestras and their families.

Now BBC America has released a clip showing Helena meeting a new clone in the upcoming fifth season. As so often happens on Orphan Black, things do not go as expected.

Tatiana Maslany in Orphan Black Season 5

The clip begins with Helena staring at a knife, promising "I will cleanse them from this earth." It then moves to a church, where a woman whose head is covered kneels in prayer. Helena walks in swiftly, as if on a mission. She goes right up to the woman and stabs her in the back. It is only when she catches the woman that Helena realizes she is another clone, and looks horrified as her 'sestra' dies in her arms.

The clip is very reminiscent of who Helena used to be back in season 1. The Proletheans abused and brainwashed her until she believed she was the original clone and all the others had to be killed. Helena is a trained assassin and took out some of the other clones intentionally before finding out that Sarah is not only her clone, but also her twin, and she therefore could not be the only original. Over time, she grew to love Sarah, as well as Cosima, Allison, and their families. Helena no longer hunts the clones, but instead protects several of them. Killing one after all this time is sure to have a profound psychological effect on her.

There is no explanation for why she walked into a church with a knife, planning to kill anyone. Last Helena was seen, she was in hiding with Donnie and Allison and trying to lay low to protect her unborn twins. It looks as though something or someone is going to draw her out, and then trick her into killing her own clone. Maybe they want to bring the old Helena back. Or maybe something even more sinister is going on.

The final season of Orphan Black premieres on BBC America June 10 at 10 pm.
