Netflix's first look trailer for Orange is the New Black season 5 promises a game-changing payoff to the show's season 4 finale cliffhanger. The prison drama is one of Netflix's most popular shows, and the finale of season 4 ended on a gripping note that fans will be eager to see resolved. Following the tragic death of Poussey at the hands of a prison guard, the show's inmates rioted, culminating in Dayanara (Dasha Polanco) holding a guard at gunpoint while a baying mob of inmates urge her to shoot.

The possible culmination of that situation is teased in our very first look at Orange is the New Black season 5. Featuring the tense stand-off, plus a short scene between Piper and Chapman, it seems as though at least one shot is fired, but was it aimed at anyone? Take a look at the teaser, above.

Whatever the outcome of the stand-off, things will certainly never be the same at Litchfield again. Fans will recall that it became the victim of overcrowding during season 4, which took its toll on all concerned. Will this riot finally make the prison authorities sit up and take notice? For Daya, who now has a small baby on the outside waiting for her release, her actions could have catastrophic consequences; especially if it was her who fired the shot we heard at the end of the teaser.

Orange is the New Black sees the most of the same familiar cast returning, including Laura Prepon as Chapman, Taylor Schilling as Piper, Natasha Lyonne as Taystee, and Uzo Aduba as Suzane 'Crazy Eyes' Warren. Netflix has already renewed Orange is the New Black for another two seasons after this one, bringing the total count to seven. Season 5 takes place over three days, thereby giving a detailed conclusion to the riot.

It's a bold move; to show events of just 72 hours over the course of 13 episodes will require a lot of very strong writing to keep audiences entertained. That said, the Orange is the New Black showrunners must certainly feel this situation warrants such a detailed exploration, and it will give the show a bit of a refresh, which it is probably owed after four seasons.

There are a lot of questions that need to be answered aside from who's fired the shot or been shot; will justice for Poussey ever be served? Will Bennett return to parent his and Daya's baby? How will Poussey's death affect Taystee and the rest of the inmates? Will Piper ever be less annoying? It looks as though Orange is the New Black season 5 will be intense and dramatic, but let's hope they also find time for some lighter moments too.
