It’s Wednesday so that means it’s time for our weekly open discussion post!
Talk about whatever you like as long as it’s related to movies, TV or Screen Rant itself.
BTW, in case you missed the live /Film podcast where I was a guest, you can now download it here. There is some overlap with the Cinemblend podcast I did on Sunday, but there is new stuff as well.
Around the web:

So…most of us know DC’s gonna take a ‘Darker tone’ with the superman reboot. Much like they did with Batman.
I really think this could work because superman comics themselves are often surprisingly dark and mature e.g. Superman: Rebirth.
Also people said Batman would never work as a ‘Dark’, ‘Gritty’ film, but that was because the majority of the public still view Batman as the ‘Camp’ superhero of yore.
So…my question is what do you guys think they could change/improve/incorporate to make the superman reboot a whole lot more mature?
We don’t know for sure that the next Superman movie will be “dark.” There’s no script or even a story idea as far as I’m aware.
Personally I think I might like to see more of an Alex Ross rendering type of Superman. An older, more powerful and imposing Superman.

Vic,
I know that these sites receive revenue from posting the ads for various products/movies on their site, but sometimes the ads you have make it hard to view your content. The drop down ones especially. Otherwise, everything else is great.
Shane,
What drop down ads? I had those for a while but removed them due to complaints. As far as I known there shouldn’t be any more of those expanding ads running on the site.
Vic
Just reread Watchmen again..Excellent piece of modern literature..
@ 790…Dude did you read it yet? If not what are you waiting for..the movie?
I also read Infinite Crisis by DC( bought a graphic novel version) and was disappointed by how childish they made Superboy Prime…If he had been portrayed as insane like in the last few pages of the story it would have been much better..
Superman needs to beat the tar out of something in a movie instead of being the silent type…Show some emotion..anger, rage and just have at it…First of all he will need a plot that will elicit something more that nostalgia and will entice we the fans back for repeated viewings.. The movie’s overall tone doesn’t have to be dark but it can have a dark moment or two where Supes loses it and can maybe be brought back to reality by a guest appearance by Green Lantern, Flash or Wonder Woman or all of the above
Is it just me but I think the Flash and especially Green Lantern are DC’s Iron Man projects that will be big blockbusters if done properly…I think GL has so much potential to be the next big thing for WB and DC..
No Parallax (hope that is spelled right)..DC should not have messed with the Hal JOrdan character like that and then just reverse it and make him a Green KNight again…hated that!! Jordan is the GL for me…
Hey I got a few weeks of comments to catch up on…
Vic,
The drop down ads are still there… Everytime a page loads, I get forced to the top of the page and the drop down ad opens immediately. My cursor doesn’t even need to be near it for it to open either…

JEREMY IRONS!!!
JUST SAW HIM IN THE TIME MACHINE REMAKE AND WITH THE MAKE-UP HE HAD ON HE PROVES TO ME WHAT I ALREADY THOUGHT…THAT HE WOULD MAKE AN ALMOST PERFECT FRANKENSTIEN MONSTER,HIS BONE STRUCTURE IS ALMOST THE SPITTING IMAGE OF KARLOFFS CLASSIC!!!
THE BEST BIT ABOUT VANHELSING WAS THE BLACK & WHITE BIT AT THE START!IF UNIVERSAL HAD ANY SENSE THEY’D REMAKE A BLACK/WHITE VERSION OF THE CLASSIC!!
JUST A THOUGHT!

THe drop down ads are still definitely a presence Vic…
Sidenote: There is ‘expanding ads on this site’.
Can I start a thread or everything is talked about here?
‘Ant-Man’ in the Avengers…
What do you think about that? Furthermore what do you think about him having a stand alone movie? I’ve never met an Ant-Man fan….
Wouldn’t you guys excuse Marvel ‘from forgetting about him’ during this Avengers build up so that we can focus on Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America and Thor? I think Ant-Man will add a sense of childishness to the whole franchise and I definitely view it as a mistake.
Sometimes I think you can honor source material by acknowleding the fact that not everything can work on film.
Iron Man – AWSOME!
The Incredible Hulk – AWSOME!
Thor – EH…
Captain America – Can be good.
Ant-Man – WTF? Might as well throw in the Wasp (practically tinker bell).
I don’t know, I’m a fan boy and a film student so these past few years, ever since ‘Blade’ hit the multiplex, my screen dreams have been comming true but I just can’t see Ant-Man working…?
Anybody else?
Fantastic Four, both of them, suck… sorry… it’s true.
@Dave
EVERY time? At most those ads (and they shouldn’t be auto-expanding) should be coming up only 25% of the time. I’m not seeing the problem in either Firefox or Internet Explorer.
Can you guys email me at vic at screenrant.com and let me know:
Is it the top banner ad?
Is it the square ad on the side of the page?
What are the ads advertising?
Believe me, I do NOT want to annoy my visitors, so any info would be helpful in resolving this issue.
Thanks,
Vic
Well this ‘Open discussion sucks’…
How come there is not a page for Spawn? and why did you guys remove that ill-informed article about Marvel Manga crossovers?
Kalibur
Never liked the Ant-Man but was a big fan of the Yellow Jacket character. Wasp is the tinker bell of the Marvel universe but she was Pym’s moral compass. He wasn’t a bad guy in the seventies and early eighties in the comics until they turned him into a major AH by writing him as an abuser of his wife…
Interesting thought BRAVEHEART. 2010 will be the 100Th anniversary for “Frankenstein” films and 2011 will be the 80Th anniversary since the first popular version was made. Did anyone really make the story as told by Shelly? I don’t think so, at least not completely, faithfully in a single story.
High Kalibur,
you have now officially met an Ant Man fan !
and I have no problem having the Wasp in an Avengers film.
Yeah High Kalibur “Spawn: The Animation” is suppose to be out this year, heard anything?? Hamill is playing Twitch but who’s voicing “Spawn?” “Spawn 2″ is suppose to be out in 2010 so I don’t know why a thread hasn’t been started, other than no news has been published. Got any news?
I read this week that a good director has “Ant-Man” on his schedule. However he has one or maybe two properties to finish first. He claims to be an Ant-Man fan, so one fan is accounted for!
Sorry about that Gary we won’t forget ya..
.. next time..
@High Kaliber
“Well this ‘Open discussion sucks’…”
Um, what is your problem? Seriously.
“How come there is not a page for Spawn?”
BECAUSE NO ONE IS WORKING ON A SPAWN MOVIE.
“and why did you guys remove that ill-informed article about Marvel Manga crossovers?”
A. If it was “ill-informed” why would you care if it was removed?
B. Oh yeah, it WASN’T removed. I don’t know why you’re not capable of finding it.
Yeesh.
Vic
Gary / Greenknight,
At last, other opinions!
I think that focusing on, advancing and creating a superlative unity between Iron Man, The Hulk, Thor and Captain America on screen in a feature length film is an extraordinary feat in and of itself, I think, and this is my opinion, that Ant-Man will detract seriousness from the entire production and yes it is a superhero film but we still want to take it serious in a ‘what if’ fashion.
I think the majority of Marvel fans could care less about Ant-Man and if he’s not in it, I think the Avengers movie could be better.
Vic,
Todd Mcfarlene is working on a Spawn movie… Officially…
Oh yeah Vic, I’m just saying that their isn’t much interaction or posting happening during this ‘open discussion’ that’s all. I was hoping their would be a lot more film buffs, with varying oppinions posting that’s all.
