  1. I just saw this movie called “World’s greatest Dad”… its kind of a dark comedy with Robin Williams. It was actually pretty good… seems to have a “People glorify the dead” type message which after seeing several comments on here and elsewhere i can very much agree with it.

Anyways its been a wierd week… from the beavis and butt-head sequel all the way to Disney buying Marvel… CRAZY

  2. Disney buying Marvel, such a crazy event. I was freaking out all day when I found out on here. I kinda like the idea and I’m excited about the fact Hulk 2 could be here sooner than later thanks to the merger.

  3. @jago

I’ve saw “World’s Greatest Dad”, I enjoyed it too. I like the irony in the title. Robin William’s character was far from being the greatest dad…I wouldn’t even put him in the top million ^_^

I watched a Thai movie tonight called “Power Kids” (Haa Hua jai Hero) and while some may find the story line to be lacking (I enjoyed it), the fight scenes were pretty awesome, especially considering the age of the kids.

And I for one am looking forward to seeing what happens with this Disney/Marvel merger. I think more good will come from it than bad.

  4. that would be cool if disney bought superman. Think besides the fact that you wont see batman and him fighting side by side you can see the hulk and him actually fight.

  5. Still haven’t gotten over the whole Marney/Disvel (Marvel-Disney) big surprise.

  6. Finally saw Funny People this weekend… man do I hate the delay on some movies coming out overseas, we in the UK still haven’t gotten Up yet, won’t come out here till October. Tell me how that’s right?

a lot of surfers use Adbloc+ to stop some annoying banners and ads, but sometimes when my adbloc+ is active, screenrant won’t open at all. Just to let you know if you haven’t noticed.

    Cheers

  8. Movies I’ve watched lately that I’ve never seen before:

“Hellboy II: The Golden Army” – I was almost expecting a disappointing sequel, but this movie was pretty awesome. Worthy follow-up to the original film for sure.

“National Treasure: Book of Secrets” – wasn’t bad at all.

“Juno” – loved it. Made me re-evaluate what true love is.

“Gran Torino” – fell in love with Clint Eastwood all over again. Such a brilliant man.

“A Man For All Seasons” – excellent. Loved Paul Scofield’s eloquence – and Robert Shaw was PERFECT as Henry VIII. I love history films that can help me really visualize bygone ages.

“The Last Emperor” – Pretty good historical film. I really felt for Pu Yi, who I felt like was basically a good kid in an unfortunate situation who took a risk that became a horrible mistake.

“The Gods Must Be Crazy” – loved this, made me laugh out loud most of the movie. I also loved how the director had the camera to show people walking fast on the screen, like in old family videos.

“300″ – though this was kind of a laid-back movie ;) No, just watched this yesterday and I made sure to strip myself down to just my loincloth and keep my sword and dagger nearby, as to be in the proper mood! I also used a manly deodorant. Anyway, the movie rocked. I felt like I entered second puberty watching it. :)

  9. @Phil

    National Treasure: Book of Secrets

“We’re going to Kidnap the President, of the United States of America”

Even in Nic Cages monotone bored voice, that line had me, if only because I believe every movie trailer should feature that line. I still ocassionally watch this movie.

  10. Haha, and he did it, too!

Yeah, I enjoyed the movie a lot, surprisingly.

  11. @Huggybear

When that happens, is it just on the home page? When I run a site “skin” (like right now for Gamer) I think that’s what’s triggering that.

    Vic

  12. Oh, and you DO realize that it’s the ad revenue that keeps this site going and allows us to bring you all this great info, right? :)

    Vic

  13. @Vic

Yeah, it’s only for the home page. I know about the ad revenue, but hey, I’m European and those ads are directed for American audience, right? :P hehe

  14. I disabled adblock for this site, you’re not too heavy with ads anyway :)

  15. I’ve read quite a bit here on SR about how much everybody disliked the new actor (can’t recall his name) who played Superman Returns. I actually thought he was fantastic and brought a new face to the Superman series…he had a certain innocence and naivety that showed a new side of Superman’s character. What were people’s objections to him?

  16. I think it was more about the story O’Casey. People were turned off by it. It wasn’t just a single thing about the story either. Sentiment was like; – Hang the director & writer out to dry and [insert favorite artists] on the next one.

  17. How funny it is that last year after the Dark Knight opened Hollywood wants to make dark movies. This year with James Cameron Avatar coming soon everyone wants to go 3-D. What’s the new fad for next year? After Sly Stallones The Expendables everyone wants to do throwback movies to honor the 80s and 90s?

  18. @ O’Casey

I’ve noticed too that Brandon Routh got a lot of bad word or mouth on this site, I actually liked his performance and thought that he did very well. The story was a bit boring at times but it still turned out to be a good movie, and Kevin Spacey owned as usual.

  19. O’Casey,

I liked Routh as Superman, and thought the film itself was BRILLIANT.

  20. I thought Routh and spacey were decent, but the script was not. The finale really fell apart.

speaking of Superman, the more I watch superman 3 the better it gets. It had more of a dark slapstick-style that Supe 1 or 2. And Richard Pryor had better acting chops than people gave him credit for.

It’s funny… when I first saw Supe 3 many, many, many years ago, I thought they ruined the Superman franchise. I guess its like wine, no more like aged cheese.

  21. I had no probs with Routh, however the story sucked.
Deciding to use Lex Luthor was epic fail!!!!

(I will never see another Superman film with Lex Luthor, ever!!!!!)
The only reason I own the film on dvd is for the shuttle/airplane scene.

  22. If they did have a problem with Routh a fair amount leaned more to wanting “Smallville’s” lead, Tom Welling to play the part.

To me it’s, “six of one half a dozen of the other.” Shoot I had no problem with Dean Cain playing the part he did a good job. The facial structure, jaw line for example, keeps coming up as defining Superman visually. A whole generation saw George Reeves define the part on the small screen too. That will be hard to shake.

Saw “Defiance” this week, based on a true story. Anyone who’s seen Liev Schreiber in “Wolverine” will want to catch his performance here. He mixes it up with Daniel Craig and you can see why he was cast in the “Wolverine” movie.

  23. Alrite, I think “The Last Star Fighter” movie needs a serious make over together with a longer script! When I saw the latest Star Trek film, I was blown away!Truly when it comes to special effects, we’ve really come a long-long way!Btw, Superman is overrated not unless they match him up with a super villain then I’d go watch it!

  24. Whoevers doing the next Superman film should worry more about the story then the cast.
Without a really kick ass story the next film will tank!

  25. I’m all for a rock-in good story, No doubt about it!!

With all the new technology being brought into movie production what do people think about the benefits applied to the Western genre? Jonah Hex, the Lone Ranger and a few others have been bandied about. Could a classic story be created for the most part in studio? No out on location and for the most part not even outside.

Their’s talk of remaking “Outland” which is a retelling of “High Noon.” What would you think of interjecting more conventional Western elements but it still retains Futuristic elements? I’m talking sane thinks too, like setting the story on an outpost planet that has more Earth like quality with some “Serenity” vibe. Give the town a spectacular look but do it all in C.G.

@kissjonez; Wouldn’t you say the “Last Star Fighter” has a lot of “Magnificent Seven” going for it?

  26. I say Disney get the rights to Supes and give us Hulk vs. Sperman and be done with it already!
HULK SMASH MAN IN RED UNDERWEAR!

  27. i have heard no buzz or seen any commercials on the movie carriers. has chis pine in it. here is plot from imddb.com “Four friends fleeing a viral pandemic soon learn they are more dangerous than any virus.” i watched the trailer on youtube. looks good. o ya it comes out on friday. here is the trailer

  28. Hey guys, i think i’m the only one that feels that the 2 new Batman movies were meh, so so. I think Tim Burtons Batmans were much, much better. Also, everyone is so crazy about “realism” in the new Batman movies. Well guess what. Look out the window, that’s realism. Screw realism in movies. Gimme dark, gritty, gothic Gotham any time.

  29. I liked the Tim Burton Batman stuff quite a bit. The Batmobile from the first Tim Burton film is still my favorite one from all the films so far, include that tumbler thing from the new fims.

I even liked the character designs for the Joel Schumacher films that came after. Bat-nipples, not so much though.
