It’s Wednesday again, time for our regularly scheduled open discussion post.
As usual – talk about whatever you like as long as it’s related to movies, TV or Screen Rant itself – just remember to play nice.
Around the web:

Dollhouse – I’m truly disappointed with this season and I’m beginning to agree with the idea of letting the show go at the end of the season. I had such high hopes too. I’m not a huge fan of Eliza Dushku, not the best actress but she does an okay job. I really thought they were going to explore her “dark” side more and the whole “dollhouse”. What happened there???
Captain America- Who is on the list and who will win the job? I am starting to like the guy from Sex in the City who did the vodka ads. But I think Hamm with a died hair do would be perfect.
Is is worth going to see district 9 (great film) in the cinema, if you already seen it via a download?
John Krasinski would make a great Elongated Man.
…doing a great job with the site, btw, Vic.
saw Law Abiding Citizen yesterday and I though it was terrific
Butler and Foxx were both amazing , great plot and lots of action.
Picked up a copy of Hardware on Bluray yesterday. I’ve been waiting for this film to come to disk since i had copies of it on tape. Loved it! Great quality and great film if you’re into the scifi genre and appreciate low budget.
I saw Midnight Meat Train with Vinnie Jones and Bradley Cooper last night, a decent creepy film with a very strange ending.
It was based on a clive Barker story, the books of blood I think.
@Gingerbeer
That’s sort of up to you really. I’m guessing you’ve already seen it, so if you have, you’ll have a decent idea of how you think it’d look on the big screen.
Personally, I loved it in the cinema.
@badlvillemojo
As a Whedon fan, I’ll admit, this season isn’t quite as good as the first one… and the first season has some questionable episodes. It just seems a little blander now. I wonder what it’d be like had some of the writers not been replaced.
@Joshi
That was the “exact” word I was looking for, bland-bland-bland. It does make you wonder if they realized that now, after replacing the writers. I’ll probably follow the rest of the story out on hulu or some online site that has the shows. Definitely not wasting a Friday night on it anymore.
It’s kind of sad that they let the show drop off like that. Would have thought maybe Whedon might have done something to fix that, oh well.
@Gingerbeer
That movie I actually saw in the theater and thought it was pretty darn good. I will sometimes catch the movie “online” just to see if I like it enough to catch it in the cinema and pay out the cash. I do try to save some movies for rental later, so I have something to rent
Kind of a drag when you run out of films to rent because you saw them in the theater.
@The Pitt Man
Didn’t they come out with Book of Blood in the theater recently? I thought I saw something about that.
Anywho, interesting note, Leslie Bibb was in that and also most recently in “Law Abiding Citizen”.
Speculating on the possible Avengers villian(s)…
Skrulls would be great and really justify putting together such a powerful team to take on a global threat. If they go the route of the Ultimates storyline, they’ll fight Hulk first and then all come together for the big skrull battle.
Hydra is another (and probably less expensive) option. Kevin Feige mentioned that the origins of Hydra are going to be shown in the Captain America film. Plus, with Tim Roth signing up for more films, we may see Hydra putting together their own group of super PMD’s (Persons of Mass Destruction).
Kang would be too soon and confusing with all the time travel stuff.
Ultron needs to be saved to tie into a Hank Pym/Antman film, and maybe ‘Avengers 2′.
Maybe Loki, if they want to go the purist route, but after him being the villian lead in ‘Thor’, I’d like to see a new threat.
Skrulls would have to be in number 3 because you have to do a Civil War story first
Skrulls were attacking the Marvel Universe decades before Civil War, plus the films rarely follow the way things are done in the comics. So, Civil War has nothing to do with it.
Plus, Civil War will never be done period because it involves too many characters that other studios have the rights to.
ya Vic i gotta say this is the best movie site hands down in every category.How do u make this site so good ive checked out all your competition and its not even a contest. Your site is so well done with quality articles evryday, keep up the good work.
Has anyone heard if NBC is going to push up Chuck on their schedule. I know that there was an article here on SR about it, but on the NBC webpage it still has Chuck premiering in March.
I think there should be a movie all about the sidekicks. One were the superheroes aren’t the main focus of the film but rather revolves around the relationships between sidekicks of multiple heroes.
@Paul Young
I think technically that would be Sky High (not nearly as terrible as it looks, trust me). Not entirely the same concept, but it goes in that general direction.
anybody else here think The Academys new policy of hving 10 Nominees for Best Pictutre wont last Long?
@Gary
I don’t know, they’ve made changes before that’ve stuck, I see no reason why they should go back on it.
Mind you, so far this year, I can’t think of 10 films worthy of the best film nod.
@Gary …
Hard to tell whether the 10 film Best Picture nomination is going to last. If it had been in place earlier, it’s highly possible that The Dark Knight might have won Best Picture instead of Slumdog Millionaire.
@Joshi …
Finding 10 films this year which are even worthy of a BP nod is going to be a real challenge, unless they choose those movies which were underperformers at the box office, like The Soloist from earlier this year, as well as all the movies which will be clogging the multiplex between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
It should be interesting to see which 10 even get a BP nod.
@Stephie
The Best Picture Oscar has never really been about box office performers (if it were, the Dark Knight would have got a nom for sure), but the Soloist only got a 54% on Rotten Tomatoes, there may be some best supporting actor nominations in there, but likely not a best picture nomination.
@Joshi …
You’re right about the Best Picture Oscar never being about which films made the most money at the box office, but it always seemed to me that little films — like Slumdog Millionaire — which played in a handful of theaters in a few cities always seemed to get the Best Picture nomination, and those films which were in wide release didn’t seem to get as many nominations for Best Picture.
I saw The Soloist on Movies On Demand last week, and it was an OK movie; not BP quality, I readily admit, but a Best Supporting Actor nomination might come from it, but it would be a toss-up as to who’d get nominated, either RDJ or Jamie Foxx.
Exactly. I mean Slumdog almost went straight to DVD, which would have sucked. But that’s kind of the point about the Best Picture nod, if they gave it to the films that made the most money, suddenly you’d be seeing films like Twilight getting nods (haven’t seen Twilight, but from what I hear… not quite an “Academy Award for Best Picture” type of movie).
Yeah, best picture is a shame. It’s always some artsy crap film I’ve never heard of. Iron Man should’ve won last year.
if the oscars want more ratings, which is the path they ARE currently trying to follow by upping the best picture to 10 films.
All they need to do is give the VIEWERS 35%of the important vote, one oscar nomination and 40% of an award. And people will watch to see if the masses spoke loud enough.
Easy fix that will make everybody happy
Hey guys, thanks for the compliments. We work hard to make this the best site possible for you.
Vic
sorry, 35 should be 40, changed my mind midway through
hey vic i do have one suggestion though could you possibly post more contests for movie’s or like anything to do with movies in some sort of give away.
@ vic
i got to ask Vic, are you going to dress up as freddy krueger this Halloween?
