It’s Wednesday again, time for our regularly scheduled open discussion post.
As usual – talk about whatever you like as long as it’s related to movies, TV or Screen Rant itself – just remember to play nice.
Around the web:

ooooo I get to be first. Vic, have you considered running an anime section for the growing yet silent Otaku crowd amongst your regular visitors?
Any news on who might be Captain America? If it’s coming out in 2011 then the filming should be starting within a few months which means they better get their stuff together.
Whoever is cast for Captain America has to hold his own on screen against actors like Robert Downey Jr., Sam Jackson and likely Ed Norton. He must also sell it physically. I’ve always championed Mark Valley for the role, but many feel he is older than the character should be in the film. Understanding this, I submit the name Brendan Fraser(The Mummy films). He’s like 6’3″, physically right for the part, has an eternal baby-face, and can damn sure act. His name, as far as I know has not been brought up in Captain America discussions. Just my opinion.
Any news on Rome??
Haha, I’m gonna ask this in every open discussion.
Brendan Fraser is freakin built man… But not sure how well he acts, I always see him as a funny guy in the movies…
uncharted 2 is freakin awesome and speaking of it… i would love to see a movie made to this and the perfect candidate for the role… Nathan Fillion.
Oh and hey Vic have you seen “Law Abiding Citizen”?
I bought Married… with children season 11 – the final season yesterday. My series is complete. The Bundy’s are AWESOME!!!! Yay!!!
@Ken
Check Brenden Fraser out in Scrubs, he’s still the funny man, but the guy get’s his drama on occassionally.
Brendan Fraser is terrible!
Why are people voting for Black Cat as the next villain in Spiderman 4? Seriously?????????? wtf
Vic and everyone else
have you heard anything about Daybreakers? I read it’s supposed to be some type of futuristic sci/fi flick.
Yeah i did, it’s an interesting spin on the vampire genre. When will it be in cinemas?
@piratedan
No, I’m not really into anime and we have a difficult enough time trying to keep up with movie/TV news as it is.
@M-Cat
Daybreakers is actually a vampire movie.

Vic
thanks vic
oh great another vampire movie.
I like Brendan Fraser, but NOT as Cap. I enjoyed all the Mummy movies, but he just doesn’t have the right look or, IMO, the screen presence required for Captain America. I still think Colin Ferguson from Eureka is the best choice, he’d just have to hit the gym. LOL.
Not to mention Brendan Fraser is 40 yrs old. That works for some roles (like Iron Man) but you got to imagine they’re going to want to do a least 3 Captain America movies and some Avenger movies. I think they’ll be going young on this one.
BTW has anyone heard any news on Jeepers Creepers 3?
piratedan,
I have an anime section of my blog if your interested. I haven’t put much into that section….only like a few posts.
I hope cap is an unknown .
Sometimes the simplest way to go is also the best.
Daybreakers looks like it would be pretty interesting, judging by the trailer. It’s one of my “want to see” movies of 2010.
As for casting Captain America … I’m leaning toward either casting a relatively unknown actor — or someone you wouldn’t think of — as Cap. That way, the movie has the opportunity sneak up on you and catch you by surprise, similar to the way Iron Man did last summer.
I said it in the Casting Cap article, and I’ll say it again. Captain America can’t be played an unknown actor. Like stuntmanj says, whoever plays Cap needs to be able to hold his own against Downey Jr, Norton and Jackson.
For characters like Thor and Antman, it’s not as important, seeing as they’d be in more of a supporting role. But Cap is the leader, and the actor who plays him needs a stronger screen presence than any of the other actors combined.
I still think Brad Pitt’s the way to go, but I realize that’s not the most popular choice as of late. Brendan Frasier’s a step in the right direction, I think, but he’s not ideal either.
But, how about Gerard Butler? He certainly has the acting chops, a relatively big name, and definite screen persona. Sure, he’d need to dye his hair, but so would Jon Hamm.
Calling all Smallville, Supernatural, Stargate, Dexter fans out there, have a look at theseventhsymbol.blogspot.com
Hey Pitt Man, did “Married with Children” end with a good finale?
I don’t think I’ve seen the finale season,,,
Also “Where the Day Takes You” came out the other day remastered on dvd.
Anyone seen that film, pretty intense and a amazing cast.
@Josh Rose…
I understand where you’re coming from concerning not casting a relative unknown actor to play Cap. When you’ve already got three rather formidable actors (Downey Jr, Norton and Jackson) portraying Marvel Universe characters, you want someone who can hold his own against them.
I was thinking about casting someone you wouldn’t normally associate with the superhero movie genre to play Cap. I remember the big fuss some folks made three years ago when RDJ was cast as Tony Stark in Iron Man, and look how that turned out.
Still not sure who could play Cap, though. I like Brendan Fraser, but then … Jon Hamm sounds like an intriguing choice, along with Colin Ferguson. Can’t wait to see who finally gets chosen for the role.
@790…
I saw “Where the Day Takes You” a few years ago. Amazingly good movie; definitely worth watching.
How bout Avatar Will it be number 1 two weeks in a row and beat Sherlock Holmes
David Anders for Cap!!
Whoever plays Cap will have to be able to play a convincing Steve Rogers. That means he has to be like an everyman. And actually, I think they have to do the tobey macguire thing that Spider-man 1 did where he is all sickly and skinny and then gets the SSS injection and becomes ripped.
SO, I think bigger dudes are probably out. It is not easy to get someone to gain weight and muscle after one filming one scene, but Spider-Man did it. It would be even more difficult to get someone like Frazer who is already big to slim down (a lot) for one scene, and then bulk back up. That can’t be healthy.
My bet is it is not an unknown, but I bet it is not someone we expect. I imagine Rogers will need to exude maturity as the leader of avengersy, but he is also supposed to be relatively young compared to Banner and Stark.
I wouldn’t want to cast the role. Lot of things to think about. It is absolutely crucial to cast it right.
Hey Evan & Stephie; What would you think of Peter Youngblood Hills “Band Of Brothers” for Cap?
This is very out of left field due to the previous subject matter….but has anyone heard anything about the potential/previous Moon Knight tv show/movie? I have been trying to find things out but it seems like they are at a complete stand still, kast thing I heard was a previous mention of the character on the Blade tv series.
Just a thought, but what do you guys think the chances are of Cap America being played by someone who isn’t an actual American? I thought of this when someone mentioned Gerard Butler before, he would be good (not ideal) but I do have a feeling there will be an outcry should Cap be portrayed by someone who wasn’t born and raised in the states.
That would kind of eliminate a whole load of great Canadian actors out there who could nail the role (as well as a lot of European actors of course, I only mention Canadian ones because a lot of people don’t always realise when a great actor is actually Canadian and not American).
@Joshi
I’m not American so my stakes are low but it really shouldn’t matter should it?
If the best person to play Cap A is passed over because he’s not American is that patriotism or nationalism?
Having said that a heavy foreign accent would be very distracting.
