It’s Wednesday, so it’s time for our weekly discussion post (wow, I remembered two weeks in a row!).

Talk about whatever you like as long as it’s related to movies, TV or Screen Rant itself.

  1. Hey Ken, what do you think of the Dexter theme ?

  2. I don’t really remember it, I skip it every time, lmao!

  3. Lol,,, hey Ken J,
I apologize for comming off like a D-bag on the Avatar post… I sometimes miss the point, I’m trying to make,,,

I allways enjoy reading your perspectives,,, 8-)

  4. LMAO, did anyone else read the headline in filmonic about Shia LaBouf getting “seriously injured?” LMAO, he was cut on his eyebrow, and got a few stitches for it…

OMFG!!!!!!!! GET THE DEFIBRILLATOR!!! CLEAR!!! STAY WITH ME SHIA!!! CLEAR!!!!

hahahahaha, sorry, that gave me a laugh…

    :-D

  5. @790

Apologize for what? we disagree about stuff ALL the time, it’s nothing, haha.

  6. Thanks Ken J!

  7. Anyone know when Hellboy 2 is coming out on dvd ?
    What a great film !

  8. ok, so I have all the seasons of Quantum Leap on dvd. (if you saw my collection you’d understand. it oozes 80s/90s geek. i may be the only person in existence who’s converted all his vhs copies of max headroom to disc)

The show actually stood the test of time fairly well and I found it quite enjoyable to watch again. I was expecting to only make it a few episodes in before getting completely retroblitzed but found myself popping in disc after disc. It’s worth picking up a couple seasons if you ever find them on the bargain bin shelf.

  9. Hellboy 2. That’s the other one I was waiting for to hit disc. Thanks 790, i knew there was something else i was waiting for.

  10. Hm, I’ll give it a look again, I remember watching Quantum Leap ALL the time, lol.

  11. What about Macgyver? Do you think that is still as enjoyable as it once were?

I want to see more of Richard Dean Anderson. I’ve watched through all of Stargate SG-1 several times, and he definitely made show and the show fell apart when he left. I remember on several occassions when the stories called for a deep and serious tone, he put his goofiness aside and some real good acting skills came out. I would like to see him maybe in a feature film or something, I think he’s earned it.

  12. RDA was great fun.

Oh, speaking of DVDs and John Carpenter (he got one mention, I know) is it true you can’t get certain movies with commentary on in the States?
Besides the Big Trouble one, I also have They Live with him and Rowdy Roddy Piper talking, which is a lot of fun.

  13. Anyone read the transcript of Favreau’s interview on IM and IM2? Says “…Avengers incorporates not just Iron Man, but Thor, possibly The Hulk…”

Ouch, looks like things with Ed aren’t clearing up.

  14. @ Ken J

“What about Macgyver? Do you think that is still as enjoyable as it once were?”

No. No it is not. At least not for me. That was another show I grew up on so I recently borrowed a friends grandmothers copy of the first season (that says a bunch right there I’m sure.) and wow, it didn’t hold up to my memories at all. As I kid I remember watching in awe of his nifty little tricks. Watching it now, I couldn’t help but weep to myself softly that I actually believed you could escape from a jail cell with bubble gum and a bottle cap.

  15. Have any of you guys seen the SNL sketch “MacGruber” ?

    Hilarious.

  16. @blipvert

I have found that most TV shows that I enjoyed when I was much younger are best left in my memories. Inevitably I’m disappointed when I try to re-watch them today.

There are a few exceptions of course: Classic Star Trek, I Love Lucy and The Twilight Zone are a few that come to mind that for me stand the test of time.

    Vic

  17. Vic nailed it on the head for me too.

In my youth, I loved Johnny Sokko and his Giant Robot. I recently got a chance to watch it.

    Man, that was painful.

  18. Vic Holtreman: “are a few that come to mind that for me stand the test of time.”

That’s because they were awesome while the others were just ok..

  19. When i was a boy i took the Batman TV series seriously.
    When i grew up,
I couldnt stop laughing at it !

  20. Just watched Close Encounters of the Third Kind there for the first time in years and loved it!
It’s brilliant to watch these classic movies from 30 odd years ago before effects went digital and see craftsmen at work…the effects are still lovely to watch.I was lucky to meet Ray Harryhousen a couple of years ago when he done a talk here in Glasgow, saw some of the models from his movies up close! This man done all these effects by hand for Gods sake!
I think the more effects become digital, the more these older movies become beautiful and special!!!

  21. I just saw it the other day, and I must say, Richard Dreyfuss’ character REALLY annoyed me. His wife was VERY understanding considering his behavior IMO. She didn’t fuss at him when he dragged the entire family out to the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night, she then even apologizes to him after they had a fight when he was acting all crazy. Of course he reacts by acting even more crazy… Then he gets all romantic with another woman. I don’t know, people acting irrationally annoy me. And if I’m annoyed at the main character, it’s hard for me to appreciate the movie. But it was still entertaining.

  22. Ken: What movies do you like?

  23. Are you asking what kind of movies I like or to list the movies I like?

Well, I guess I can try to answer both. I mainly like action movies and some dramas depending on the topic matter.

I guess some of my favorite movies would be Terminator 2, Aliens, Clear and Present Danger, The Terminator, Die Hard, Narc, Dragonheart, Batman Begins, Heat, um, I don’t know, I guess I’m missing the few westerns I like, Tombstone, 3:10 to Yuma, Quigley Down Under… What else… With the Bond movies I’ll have to say Goldeneye and Casino Royale are my two favorites. The first 3 Indiana Jones, the old Star Wars trilogy, and I would say in addition to Die Hard, all of its sequels too but 2 was pretty dumb, so I think just Die Hard 3 and Live Free or Die Hard would make it on the list. In the Heat of the Night was pretty good too, just saw that recently, I know, I’m about 40 years late… I could try to sound “movie smart” and say the typical Citizen Cane, or Some Like it Hot, but to be honest, haven’t seen either one of those, lol. Oh, I really enjoyed True Lies and the director’s cut of The Abyss, the theatrical release made little sense at the end and was pretty dumb. And I guess recently there was Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk I liked, The Dark Knight (although I swear if I hear any more fuss over it, it might suffer the same fate as Pirates of the Carribean for me…)

Anyway, I’m sure there are a lot more that I liked, but that’s what I can quickly think of off the top of my head.

  24. Ok, I will assume the spam filter ate up that last post, so I’ll wait to see if it pops up later instead of making multiple duplicate posts…

  25. Most interesting… similar list on this end.

I really liked Quigley Down Under.
Never really took to the Bond films.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen In the Heat of the Night.
I didn’t mind the newest Godzilla flick… but I have a Godzilla addiction, so it’s not my fault.

I really enjoyed Gladiator. It was during a challenging time in my life and it was “soothing” at times, to watch it over and over.

  26. Gladiator had a pretty inaccurate representation of Rome. The HBO tv series Rome did it much better in my opinion. You definitely need to see that, one of the best tv series ever made in my opinion.

  27. @Ken
But did you like Gladiator? I enjoyed it immensely even though I know it wasn’t completely accurate; it’s the same for “The Ten Commandments”, possibkly my all-time favorite movie but definately not accurate.

  28. Eh, it wasn’t at all a “bad” movie, I thought it was quite good, but it simply didn’t impress me or make much of an impression on me. I don’t regret watching it, but probably would not watch it again. That’s just my opinion though, a lot of people loved the movie, I just don’t see it.

  29. @Ken
No prob. We can’t see eye-to-eye on everything; if we did, what kind of a world would we have?

    Resistance is futile!

    My point exactly. 8-)
