It’s Wednesday, so it’s time for our weekly discussion post (wow, I remembered two weeks in a row!).
Talk about whatever you like as long as it’s related to movies, TV or Screen Rant itself.
Around the web:

HEY CHECK OUT MY FILM NEWS AND REVIEW SHOW ON YOUTUBE CALLED FILMXTRA. Click on the website link
Hey, self-promotion, gotta love it.
I believe Vic meant to talk here about movies and such, not direct people away from his site. You probably would have been alright had you offered anything else of merit other than just your ad.
haha, his link is off too. I don’t think there’s commas in website URLs, Tom.
Does anyone watch that show ‘Life’? I have the first season but have not watched it, and it was good enough to earn a second season so now I’m very curious.
I really like the main dude in that from when he was in Band of Brothers as Lt.Winters.
Hey Vic,
I’ve been wondering how the Netflix Roku box is doing. I’d also like to hear from anyone else who is trying it.
Thanks!
@Zipper
I haven’t been using it much due to the lack of selection of decent movies – they had TONS of really obscure, off-beat flicks for viewing.
However news just came out today that they teamed up with Starz and added thousands of their movies to their titles available for instant streaming.
The downside is that you don’t get HD quality watching it on a big screen TV. I would say the quality may even be a bit less than DVD, but then again I haven’t watched newer films via Roku, so that may not be a fair assessment.
Vic
I tried to catch “Life” while doing other things, so an unfair assessment would be that it didn’t catch my attention. It would seem that you would already need to know the character well enough to want to focus. I’m not dissing it yet… I need to do a quality sit down and really watch it… maybe catch some of the first season out there.
Yea Tom… there are no commas in web addresses, as Rob pointed out, …yet.
Im hearing RUMORS about Fox CXLing Terminator:Sarah Conner Chronicles. Ratings for Monday’s episode were less than 6 million viewers. I really like the show, as its exceeded all my expectations.I understand its a business, but I’ll be bummed if it happens!
I’ve heard the same rumors. And just when I was really getting into it…
Vic
That would be sad news about the Conner Chronicles but not surprising in the least. I may be the only one, but I’ve really been enjoying Conner a touch more than even Heroes this season. (I just get the feeling that the ‘heroes’ have been running around in circles for far too long now. I was hoping for a little more cohesion by now and am a little ho hummed by the constant flip flopping and must change the future plot lines.)
I’m finding myself trying not to get too attached to any TV series these days as it usually ends up in big fat disappointment for me. I was one of the unlucky ones who got quite attached to both Jericho and Journeyman and that’s left quite a bad taste in my mouth. I won’t be surprised if I have to add Chronicles to that list.
I had big doubts about the Connor series but when I watched it I thought it was ok, if had flaws, but after four or five episodes I really got into it. Was quite impressed with what they came up with.
The second series hasn’t even started over here in the UK, so that news is very depressing.
If the Ratings don’t improve, Sarah Connor will be terminated, as will all hope for Mankind.
I smell south park episode !!!!
So, I just bought and watched Iron Man for the first time last night, and after hearing as much hype as I have, I really expected something much better, or perhaps something just a little bit smarter. The running joke over here was that throughout the movie, the ‘bad guys’ still think Iron Man is their Jericho missile. Honestly, how could they be *that* stupid?
All in all, I’d have to give it 2/5. It was mildly entertaining, it ended quickly enough, and Robert Downey Jr. was fun.
I’m kind of worried now about buying The Dark Knight. Perhaps it’ll just be a rental.
blipvert, I started watching all of the episodes of Journeyman on hulu.com because Kevin McKidd is in it (from Rome) and I can see why it was cancelled. They tried too hard to inject political messages in the show, attacking law enforcement and the FBI any chance they get. And them sympathizing with that child molestor/kidnapper/murderer was some crazy hippy BS. Oh, his mommy left him when he was young, boo freakin hoo. Too much hippy BS for me.
Sup everyone, just wanted to say i just watched the whole first season of Dexter online over the last two days (weve already established im always a step behind on the times) and the show is fantastic. Anyone else here a fan?
@ Ed,
Check out my article detailing why I loved Iron Man more than The Dark Knight:

ps-Vudu rocks better than Roku (www.vudu.com).
Hey Scarecrowe, yeah I’m a fan of Dexter. First season was awesome!
I have season 2 on dvd, and I’m about to start watching it, any day now.
The only thing I seriously don’t like is the opening theme and images. But on dvd you get to skip right past that.
Well John Carpenter’s “The Thing” was released on blue ray yesterday. It’s kind of disappointing to hear that it has less material than the HD version. Did anyone here adopt HD DVD format early? I wonder if the players in a couple of years won’t play both formats? Unlike VHS and BETA the media isn’t as different as it was when they were introduced.
Yeah Old Man, I don’t see how BluRay can really improve a film like The Thing.
They used normal Kodak colorcrome back then.
There’s only so much BluRay can inhance.
I can’t imagine replacing all my dvds for the slight improvements BluRay makes… Lifes to short, and technology changes to fast for that expense.
Dexter is amazing
Season one of Terminator was pretty awesome I thought too…Really didn’t like season 2′s premiere though
@790
I think the opening theme music is kinda cool, really reminds me of something i cant put my finger on tho. Ive been watching it at this website called alluc.org, theyve also got an amazing list of cartoons there, from mighty max and X-men to metalocalypse and Death note
I saw this consumer mess coming years ago. Most paid little attention and as soon as standard DVD became available, rushed out and invested in a new machine. They bought fav titles and started building libraries. All the while some people held onto VHS, continuing to use it and standard res components, until HD has finally cusped into main stream purchase. The digital high definition format will be with us for awhile and while resolution density and further refinements in sound will surely be sold, its a good place to begin phasing out VHS/standard definition components. Unlike tapes you can quickly look at a DVD surface and tell if the quality of the recording is damaged or not. This makes trading and purchasing used media cheaper than buying new. I’ve even found desirable used titles in blue ray now.
Yeah that’s what’s great about dvds you can tell right away if its scratched.
Tapes wearout anyway as discs can last 50/60 years depending on conditions.
I got rid of my VHS tapes long ago. The ones left are in storage.
Personally I just can’t justify the expense of going BluRay…
Well, I can relate. I waited a long time to update. Threw out the last vacuum tube set at the beginning of the year. Has anyone else waited to upgrade? I thought I could wait on OLED technology but it kept dragging its feet. Now it looks like it might get passed by and obsoleted before even coming to wide spread use. 790, you really would’ve felt like 790 sitting in front of one those with “Speed Racer” playing in HD.
May His Shadow Fall Upon You,,, Old Man,,,!
@Ken J
I agree, some of the undercurrents of journeyman were hard to swallow but it had two returning points for me. One being Kevin McKidd whom I discovered with Rome as well and the second being the throwback to quantum leap, i have to admit I grew up on it and it was a nostalgic thing.
To those just discovering Dexter, try the handful of episodes out there of Breaking Bad on for size. Bryan Cranstons (malcom in the middle) role really took me by surprise. It’s a good watch.
Blipvert, yeah I can’t wait for that show to come out on DVD,,,!
Cranston is unbelievably awesome!!!!
He just won an Emmy for that role!!! He’s really underated!
Malcom was a great show!!!!!!! I know the plotline of Breaking Bad, and I can’t wait to see it!!!!
790. your brain will explode when you hit episode 2
Blipvert, man I can’t wait !!!!
Heeheee.
Yah, I used to watch Quantum Leap all the time back in the day. But there’s a good chance I might not like it as much if I saw it today. But I’m not sure.
I’m also a fan of Dexter. Saw both seasons on DVD, thanks to my friend’s blockbuster unlimited rentals thing, lol. This character in the 2nd season was REALLY annoying for me though, Lila. OMG, I was hoping for her to die all through the season… but will say no more in fear of spoiling it for anyone who hasn’t seen it.
