It’s Wednesday so it’s time for our weekly open discussion post. Almost forgot this week!

Talk about whatever you like as long as it’s related to movies, TV or Screen Rant itself.

  1. Shows that have my interest:
Lost – all but Season 2 have been awesome

    Dexter – ’nuff said

BSG – though show dived in the middle of season 3 and the first few episodes of season 4 stumbled

Chuck – my feel good show. Zachary Levi and Yvonne Strahovski are magical together. Adam Baldwin kicks ass as usual.

    Movies I’m looking forward to:
    The Road
    Watchmen
    Quantum of Solace
    Star Trek

  2. @Ken J
Yeah I have Dexter on my Nexfliz que. I think I will like it as well :D

    @Vic
Will do, sorry ’bout that ;)

  3. @greenknight

I’ve come to expect democrats being mean and hateful even in victory. Way to keep my expectations solid on that.

  4. @INK
As soon as I saw it had nothing to do with movies, TV etc, I stopped reading and went on to the next post ;o)

Oh and I forgot to even mention. I went to see Zack and Miri this past weekend. It started out really good, but I don’t know, the romance at the end made it peter out :( It is a ‘see once’ for me. Still love Kevin Smith though. Can’t help it.

Took me a while to decide whether to delete your comment or respond to it. I really don’t like getting into political discussions here.

You and half the country may have gotten sucked into Obama’s “cult of personality/rock star” image, but I haven’t. He was elected via an insane amount of money being raised and someone finally applying 21st century marketing techniques online and in traditional media to a presidential campaign. That and playing off the hatred for the Bush administration (as you so aptly demonstrated).

With a combination of him as President along with a majority in the House and Senate led by the likes of Charles the-first-amendment-only-applies-if-you-agree-with-me Schumer, Nancy Pelosi and Barney there’s-nothing-wrong-with-Fannie-Mae Frank – I’m terrified of what’s going to happen to this country.

I don’t see how people can set aside the common sense fact that who you associate and ally yourself with speaks volumes about who you are and what you believe. Any parent of a teenager should be familiar with this basic concept. And the pass he’s gotten on how little experience he has is astounding to me.

As a churchgoer (I would say a large percentage of Obama supporters aren’t) I understand the significance of his attending a church for 20 years led by Jeremiah Wright, who espoused a radical black, anti-white agenda (BTW, I understand Oprah also attends this church). No one bats an eye at his leaving the church ONLY when it became politically expedient, when only weeks prior to that he said he could no more disown Wright “than his own grandmother.”

There are I’m sure plenty of other churches in his neighborhood and if he was offended by Wright’s views he could have left. Implicitly, he agreed. If I attended a church and the pastor started spewing white supremacist crap I’d be out the door so fast it would make his head spin.

    Simple.

Of course that’s just one of the people he’s allied himself with who have shall we say questionable worldviews.

Don’t mind me though, I’ll just be sitting here “clinging to my guns and religion” since I’m just a poor, ignorant hateful soul.

ANY time a leader is raised to “icon” (or in this case, messianic) status I get very, very worried.

  6. @Gary
Joaquin Phoenix just announced he was retiring from acting. Of course he still has movies coming out, because he has already filmed them. I think his “last” film is called Two Lovers. Ironically, if this really is his last film, the tag line for that film is “Sometimes we leave everything to find ourselves” I doubt he will stay retired, but that would be a fitting end to his career. And it’s not like his music career is just some silly dream he is chasing. He did win a grammy for his work on the Walk the Line soundtrack.

  7. Vic, you don’t even need to refer to Wright. Obama himself have made anti-”white people” statements in his own book.

This is taken from the audio book version:

And this is from a radio talk show he called in on:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMyPB1wbvQg

“white folk” “whites” “white people” “typical white person”

Sounds like racist comments to me, just like if you make generalized comments about “black people” or “black folk” or “blacks” or “typical black person”

  8. Hey Vic,

    http://www.watchmencomicmovie.com

    new journal up.

    GIRLS KICK ASS!

  9. Vic, I knew I loved coming to Screen Rant for a reason, and after your comment, I am firmly assured of how much I enjoy this site and the way your heart is sewn into SR.

  10. @Vic
Unfortunately, it follows the Wizard’s First Rule:
“People are stupid; given proper motivation, almost anyone will believe almost anything. Because people are stupid, they will believe a lie because they want to believe it’s true, or because they are afraid it might be true”

  11. Can we PLEASE stop talking about politics? It’s quite obvious that some people here despise Obama and some despise Bush. This is supposed to be about movies and tv, not advancing ones left or right leaning views. If I want politics, I will go to Politico!!

  12. @Andy

Yeah, you’re right. I broke my own rule – sorry.

    Let’s get back to movies!

    Vic

  13. Did anyone catch Knightrider last night? This episode I enjoyed. It dealt with someone activating Kitt’s self-destruct, which Kitt didn’t even know about. I was very into this episode and am looking forward to more of this KAR character.

  14. I try to keep up with so many shows but when I sit down to think which ones are consistently good…there aren’t many :(

Dexter is one, I’m a big fan of Lost myself and I always like the eps…then i guess some of your comedy cartoons like South Park are consistently good.

Anyone watch True Blood, Supernatural or The Unit? I have a bunch of episodes but haven’t watched any.

  15. Though I am sure I will get bashed for this, my wife and I really enjoy Ugly Betty. It helps that my wife is half Colombian and used to watch the original show when she was a kid.

Nevertheless, it’s been one of the strongest and purist shows that I think has been on in a while.

  16. Has there been any news at ALL about a 4th Jurassic Park movie? I’m curious as to whether or not there has been any progress on this film. I know I am in the minority, but I really enjoyed the last one. It wasn’t as good as the 1st one, but it was still a cool dino movie!

  17. @Andy

Haven’t heard about any forward movement on that in almost a year:

    http://screenrant.com/tag/jurassic-park-4/

    Vic

  18. @Rob

True Blood is one of my favorite shows, Ive only missed one episode so far. I wasn’t really intrested in the Supernatrual and I didn’t keep up with the Unit. missed too many episodes.

    @Dan

Wasn’t Lindsey Lohan suppose to be on Ugly Betty but then she was booted off of it halfway through filming?

  19. Lost could have been good for me if they would have stuck to the concept that they are all just stranded on an island and the drama surrounds their adjustment to having to survive on their own, their interactions, etc. But the second it started to get all weird with other people on the island, or some mysterious military bunker, or a big monster thing moving the trees around or whatever, I Lost interest, lol, pun intended.

  20. Lost, would have been cool, if they had a character that kept screwing up the survivors chances of escaping…

  21. Vic, dont feel bad about breaking your rule on talking about politics .
Your talking about your why you voted the way you did gave me the courage to come out and say I voted for John McCain.
    I appreaciate your honesty .
It reminded me it is more then OK to stand up for your principles even if it is unpopular.
    Back to movies now .

  22. 790,actually they had several people screwing up their efforts to get off the island.
    They are called writers!

  23. Oops I meant Ken J ,
    sorry about that!

  24. Any relation to Sherwood Schwartz and Bob Denver???

  25. Lmao! Good one.

Gilligan would have fit in so nicely on Lost. I miss that show. Things really were different then…

  26. Who was the Screen Ranter that recommended the movie “Primer”?

  27. @ Vic

  28. Sour Grapes Vic SOur Grapes

  29. I am afraid to ask,
    Whats Primer?
