It’s Wednesday again, time for our regularly scheduled open discussion post.
As usual – talk about whatever you like as long as it’s related to movies, TV or Screen Rant itself – just remember to play nice.
Oh BTW, on a side note: Screen Rant has just passed the 100,000 comment barrier. W00t!
Around the web:

what’s the opinion of the terminator movie rights going up for sale. Should there be more sequels or just let them die off. Me I’d rather see a great ending to watching Christian Bale play John Connor
Just caught up on Heroes, courtesy of the still free Hulu…
Has no one noticed that a US Senator has gone missing? There has been several day and night time lapses… Someone should have noticed.
I have to admit, this week’s episode was a very good one. But, didn’t Hiro resolve back in season 1 about NOT saving charlie? I guess being on death’s doorstep made him say, “Butterfly effect? Screw the damn butterflies…”
Also, if Peter has time traveling ability, what’s to stop him from going back and stopping Sylar from killing Nathan?
I know, he still doesn’t know about the Nathan/Sylar switch. But, with Nathan now missing… this is a good time for it to come up.
Just let the Terminator franchise end. T3 and T4 were just mindless action flicks, and the films SHOULD HAVE ended at T2.
I think they should still release the two more Terminator movies as planned. They can’t end that fantastic franchise without them stopping Skynet and getting a true ending. But I really want them to wait till Arnold is done being governor so he can star in the movie with Bale and Worthington.
And how amazing was V? I’ve been very hyped up about this show since I first heard about it in the summer and it completely lived up to the hype. Amazing first episode. I hope with too many off weeks, ABC doesn’t mess up this show like they did with my precious Invasion.
I agree with gigan300, but this is actually being discussed in the article about the rights being sold…
@Zipper:
I gave up on Heroes after the first or second episode this season. It’s just a complete mess and I can’t look past the countless problems with it. The characters are boring now and they keep retelling the same stories over and over again. That’s cool that you like it, but I wouldn’t become too attached, as I don’t think it’ll be around much longer.
As for me, I’m catching up on the US version of The Office. Just started Season 4 and I totally get why it’s so popular. The next two seasons should hopefully hold me over until Lost starts. While we’re on the topic of TV, any thoughts on V? The pilot seemed to try to do too much. It’s hard to judge the show by just one episode, but it felt pretty mediocre by the end. Anyone else watch it?
I wasn’t able to watch V, wanted to, but had to work today. Oh well, wonder if they will have it on their website or if I would need to download it…
The “V” remake that started tonight was pretty intense.
Vic, do you think Screenrant can cover it? If tonight’s ep was anything to go off of, it beats anything “Heroes” has done for a long time.
As long as it’s better than that crappy Stargate Universe…
dude i freaking missed V. iv been waiting for it and the v movies(if it ever happens) for like a year. i look uo at the clock and its 8:40. i was so mad. ill have to watch it tommarow:[
Akamu,
I disagree that it was mediocre. It did establish things perhaps too quickly, but it also established them well in a short time, and nothing felt neglected for the sped up pace. I enjoyed much of the dialog as well.
I liked that several characters started out facing moral quandaries in ways that didn’t feel forced.
And Alan Tudyk is a V? Damn.
By the way, does anyone know if this is going to be a regular series, or a min-series like the original? I’ve heard indications both ways.
I hope it’s a long miniseries, like a series that’s only supposed to last 2 or 3 seasons or something like that so they don’t drag the story on and on and on until it stops making sense like some shows do… I’d rather see a very nicely done ending to it…
Ken,
I just found out it’s planned to show its first four episodes this month, then after taking a long break to next March after the Winter Olympics, the remaining and concluding episodes will air.
I’m kind of relieved, actually, as the whole: “we planned the series to last two or three seasons” is the same canard that was spoken of “Heroes”, and that had its best and shining moments all in the first season, after which it seemed to be a show in search of a story that never really arrived, with each episode feeling smaller instead of more epic.
Anyway, I like stories that have definite beginnings and endings. If they made this mini-series as well as the first episode, and the ending sticks the landing, then I will consider it one of the better achievements in the last few years on television.
i agree with mike, they at least need to make one more so the humans can win the war.i also want to see a resident evil remake like the first video game,a remake of the creature from the black lagoon, and steve alten the loch go from book to film, and a underworld the begining telling the first story of marcus, william, victor, and corvinus, and how victor came to hate lycan as much as he does, and a hulk sequel, and namor.any thoughts on these ideas, or news for that matter?also i hear they are doin x-men 4,and 5 and new mutants, first class, gambit, night crawler, mystique, magneto, deadpool, and wolverine 2. does anyone have any kind of news on any of these films?
“V” will only last if the ratings stay up,,,
If the ratings suck it will be a mini-series,,,
Anyone notice the similarities between the Aliens in “V” and obamatron?
I saw “Fantastic Mr Fox” yesterday. It was…okay. Nothing special, but not as terrible as some people expected it to be. Wes Anderson’s style doesn’t really get in the way of anything or become annoying, you do sort of find yourself investing in these characters eventually. I didn’t much like the changed ending though. The ending in the book was much more… Roald Dahlian (it’s a word… now) and much more enjoyable.
In other news I’ve started watching “Castle” thanks to the recommendation of someone on here (apologies, can’t remember who). Is it any good? Well, I’ll give kudos to any show who’s title sequence is less than 10 seconds long. Otherwise though, I like it, but only really for the characters. The stories are pretty predictable (hint, the murderer is the person you least expect… every time) and parts of the premise are just laughably stupid (“Hey, novelist who isn’t police trained, come with me into really dangerous situations where you might get killed or possibly get someone else killed… it’s no biggie!”), but the dialogue is okay, Fillion is always likable and his daughter is a decent character. So I’m tuning in(ish).
So …I did an archive search on this site and dident find anything. But I dont know if anyone else knows…Adrian Brody (The Jacket, The Pianist…king kong) Has been cast as the lead role in the Predator reboot. Also Danny trejo (conair, Heat, From Dawn till Dusk) and a couple other B list actors…its supposed to be set on the alien homeworld…8 Human warriors are abducted from earth and set loose in a game reserve where they must not only battle the predators but alien animals from other worlds. This looks big budget and right now has a release date of next summer. WHat do you all think?
I was initially horrified at the thought of a predator reboot but this movie seems completely different and with a big budget, big name actors and robert rodriguez behind it I’m a little excited.
Also the movie is supposed to introduce new predators…Something called the super black predator. yet stick closely to the original creators design of predators. They’ve also involved key production people from the original movie.
Like many of you – I have no faith in ABC to carry ‘V’ through, but thought the pilot got off to a good start.
I have to say, it seemed like they tried to pack a little too much into one hour – the ‘Get Down!’ scene probably should have been saved for the second hour.
All in all, it looked great (caught some of the original on SyFy this weekend – so hokey).
Last night’s heroes was the best episode since season one maybe one of the coolest ever period… By going back to season one they can basicly do a reboot and get everything right that they screwed up before. If they can actually stay with this story arch then the show will be back to its glory days soon. Totally, totally loved that episode! Heroes might be back!
‘V’ will quickly be cancelled. They crammed into 1 hour what should have been expanded into a two hour movie. actually it seemed more like a movie trailer than a TV show.
Continue on with the Terminator movies but do them properly. put them in the hands of someone who can provide a quality movie. don’t just do them to put movies out there.
I, for one, really liked V. It has the potential to be great. Though, what is to stop that FBI agent from blowing this thing wide open? Isn’t she a pretty respected terrorist cell agent?
Anyway, I am sure the writers have thought about it. My interest in the show is probably directly proportional to how well they handle the issue of the sleeper cells of Vs that came before.
As far as Terminator rights go… I think that Jim Cameron would be about the only person I could trust to finish this story.
I think it would be cool he bought them. Never gonna happen, but it would be great.
@jerseycajun
None of the staff (myself included) had a chance to watch V last night, but a couple of us did DVR it, so we’ll be getting a post up by tonight at the latest.
Vic
MarcusFenix09,
I don’t have a prob with Adrian Brody, Danny Trejo and a couple other B list actors but that plot sounds so tired.
I watched an old episode of “Get Smart” the other day and it had the same basic plot you described…
I expected more originality from Rodriguez.
A big black super Predator sounds so cliche and action figurish. O’well I guess if my only other options are GI Joe2 and Transformers3, sure I’ll check it out.
^
@Even, FBI agents all answer to a higher authority and sometimes that authority is compromised…
Also yeah the show I believe will turn into a who’s a Cylon, eemh I mean “V” type deal,,,
I haven’t seen the entire pilot but what I did see reminded me a lot of BSG…
Opps meant to type @Evan,,, there on my last post not @Even. Sorry bout that.
@ 790
WTF is obamatron
@SIN187UM
Please don’t get him started…
