Open Discussion – November 25, 2009

Nov 25, 2009 by

vic-screenrant-thanksgivingIt’s Wednesday again, time for our regularly scheduled open discussion post (Thanksgiving Edition). On a side note, I apologize for all the website issues we’ve been having over the past few weeks, but you may have noticed that now the site is loading MUCH faster. We’ve moved to a new web hosting company and we’ve upgraded our server big time, so things should run much more smoothly (and faster) now.

As usual – talk about whatever you like as long as it’s related to movies, TV or Screen Rant itself – just remember to play nice. :)

  1. @Matt Keith

Yes, I saw it, and while I do dislike the Twilight Fandom, I couldn’t help thinking that was just a little bit too mean… I mean I laughed like hell, but yeah, too mean, even for them.

  2. @Docktorwu

    Can’t please everyone. :)

    Vic

  3. DrSam

I am very disappointed in you. nuff said.

  4. @Joshi

Yeah, I found the part where it said, “Twilight fans are the dumbest people on the planet” to be mean, and this is coming from someone who hates Twilight.

  5. @Matt Keith

That and, well, we’ve all geeked out about some kind of fandom at one time or another, if it’s not a movie or movie series, it’s a comic book or a series of novels or a TV show or sporting event or music star.

Twilight may be annoying to us, but I’m sure at some time, we were annoying to someone else. Like Kevin Smith said at comic-con ‘I love how at these comic-book conventions, someone dressed as Spock can look over at someone dressed as Chewy and say “look at that f****** f*****” ‘.

And yeah, I’ll express my dislike of Twilight fans as much as the next guy, but I really thought the whole “tricking them into going to a vampire intervention” thing was a step too far, personally.

    Still funny as hell though.

  6. I have a LOT to be thankful for this year, including family, friends and … all the amazing, awesome and cool people who make ScreenRant so much fun.

I’m happy to be a “Rant Regular”, and thanks to Vic and everyone else — including several of my favorite posters (including 790, Joshi, DrSamBeckett, Ken J and the rest) — for making this such a fun place to hang out. :)

  7. Happy Thanksgiving Vicster and the fellas

  8. @Stephie

I don’t think nerdgasms are gender-specific but they are MUCH more commonly found happening to guys. :-P

    Vic

  9. Happy Thanksgiving to the Screen Rant Nation!

  10. @vic
    omg, lovin that picture lol

  11. @vic
u gonna do a ninja assasin review

  12. @Vin

Paul is going to write one up tonight. Due to my recent medical probs I haven’t been able to attend screenings this week.

    Vic

  13. Happy Thanksgiving to the readers and crew of screen rant

  14. Vic,,, you look like Chief Wild Eagle from F-Troop,,, :-)
    ^
Thanks Stephie, and happy Thanksgiving all you people out there in the darkness,,, 8-)

4 days off, sheesh its hangover city come next monday…

  15. LOL @790. :-P

So… no one has commented on how much faster the site is? Seems to me it’s WAY faster than it was before. :-D

    Vic

  16. Thankful for…

Movies and TV: Iron Man and Football… I’ll be off tomorrow to watch some football for the first time in a few years. :)

Vic’s Health: I know you have a young daughter, and for her sake I’m glad you’re okay.

My Own health: Last week was a train wreck — mentally. I almost reached for the straight jacket. Star Trek on DVD was a nice escape for awhile. Speaking of which: Did they reduce the lens flares? Didn’t seem as obvious this time.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone in the States!

  17. Anyone see the recent dvd release called, “Echelon Conspiracy”
    ^
Interesting as I watched “Echelon Conspiracy” I couldn’t help but notice the lead actor Shane West looks and sounds just like a young William Shatner. He would have been perfectly cast as Kirk in the latest Abrams “Star Trek” film…

    Anyone see that?

  18. I’m watching an old crosstalk interview tonight with Frank Zappa, and I’m thinking somebody needs to make a Zappa bio-pic starring Howard Stern…

Sure use other actors in flashbacks when he was younger but I think Stern, could pull off the older Zappa better then anyone!!!

    Fastrack this Warner Brothers!!!!

  19. @DrSamBeckett

Wait… what?? You’re no longer going to rip on Avatar??? Oh come on, that was a funny way for the two of us to butt heads in a civil way!! Geez, party pooper… :-P

Man, I really hope the movie turns out good, or it’ll be so much anticipation for nothing, lol. Cameron, you better not let me down!

    @Everyone else

Hm, I’m also thankful for JJ Abram’s Star Trek, Up, Zombieland for bringing Left 4 Dead to the big screen, living in the great United States of America, hopefully stays great and doesn’t keep trying to imitate everyone else, my family of course, meeting some great new friends like Klaus, Nicole, and Jennifer! :-P Um, Batman Arkham Asylum for allowing me to be the badass that is Batman, Left 4 Dead 2 (what Left 4 Dead should have been), and last but definitely not least, Screenrant so I can keep up with movie news (and now game news with gamerant!) and to have some interesting conversations with people from all around the world it seems. :-)

And I know this didn’t come out this year, or this decade, but I have to thank James Cameron for giving us Terminator 2, Aliens, and True Lies.

    Ok, that’s it I think. :-P

  20. sorry for having to post again but I forgot….

I am thankful for being there in the heyday of MST3K and I miss those turkey day marathons of such riffing goodness that were Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, Daddy-O, Wild Rebels, Eegah and all the Gamera movies one could stand.

I am thankful for having a place like this to offer my cinematic opinions, regardless of how lame or shiny they may be, so ty Vic.

PS…and 790 is right, you do look kinda like Chief Screaming Eagle from F-Troop in that avatar…maybe a little less red on the cheeks.

  21. @Ken J

I suppose I could go back to my old ways, but my reasoning is, I think I have really said all the negative things I have to say about Avatar.

it is up to Cammeron now, if he makes a decent film, I will never mention it again. However, if it stinks the way I suspect, i will say ” I told you so” so loudly it will echo around the dust of Krypton!

  22. piratedan says: ” MST3K and I miss those turkey day marathon”

Those were great weren’t they? It’s funny you mentioned MST3K. I was over at Amazon looking at Nelson’s latest effort satires of children’s books. “Goth-icky”, “Happy Kitty bunny pony” and the like. Check out the reviews and find the one where the guy finds that the book has content appropriate for all age groups in his family. I think it was “Happy Kitty,” rather amusing.

790 says: “Anyone see the recent DVD release called, “Echelon Conspiracy””…..”Stern, could pull off the older Zappa”

I almost rented that instead of “Red Line!” Have been interested in Echelon since the “60 Minutes” program back in 2000. In case you missed, here’s the transcript site.
    http://cryptome.org/echelon-60min.htm

Stern as Zappa? Get him to grow that mustache and I could see it…

Thankful… thankful to be alive, thankful the family has avoided tragedy this year. Thankful that the economy didn’t meltdown the nation into total chaos. Which might have really happened if the retro-historians are right, possibly. Thankful that people, no matter what they believe, are willing to do the peaceable thing, rather than the violent thing despite the temptations, including the measured actions of the troops overseas. Despite what anyone thinks matters could always be worse. Finally thankful their’s still hope.
    Everyone have a safe holiday…

  23. Old Man, don’t waste your time with Echelon Conspiracy, unless you want to see Shane West channel James T Kirk,,, ;-)

The film is a PG-13 mess,,,

  24. @Vic

I couldn’t really comment on how fast the site loads, I’m one of those people who’ll usually load up about 10-20 tabs at once and then slowly move through them all, so either way this site is getting at least a minute or so to load before I even look at the page and I’ve never known it to not be fully loaded when I finally get to it. A quick test now seems to show it takes just as long as any other website I load up, so if that’s faster then kudos.

And I hope you feel better soon man. ;)

  25. Is anyone as pissed as I am about Polanski getting bail and under house arrest at a RESORT?

  26. This man shouldn’t get any leverage at all, and is able to live in luxury.

  27. @Matt Keith

Great, ain’t it? Just remember “Animal Farm.”

“Some of us are more equal than others.”

    Vic

  28. Matt, justice system is a joke.
    ^
Vic, I’m noticing for some reason I’m not receiving comments anymore even though I’m subscribed ???

  29. Gobble Gobble… I’m soooo effin full already. I’m thankful for tums, pepto bismol, my bed in abkut a hour or so, both screen rant and game rant ( eventhough i’ve been fairly busy lately with a couple of projects), sooo many movies and games, revenge of the explosions 2 by Michael Bay, etc.

Vic, you look like you got run over by hurricane my nephews and nieces… Your next avatar should be showing how rudolph keeps his nose red. Happy this to all and to all a good night for i shall finish watching back to the future then go to sleep.
