As usual – talk about whatever you like as long as it’s related to movies, TV or Screen Rant itself – just remember to play nice. icon smile Open Discussion November 18, 2013

  1. Good morning Scranters, and a good Monday to you all!

Hope the weekend was good for everyone!

    • I successfully put together a dresser from IKEA!

      *proud face*

      • Are those easier to assemble now?

Back in the day, I used to buy Ikea stuff because it was cheap but it was a pain to assemble because things didn’t always line up correctly or there were missing parts.

        • A pain? Kinda. I think tedious is the best way to describe it. Having to assemble each and every drawer including the tracks… yeah it took a minute.

        • Time consuming is a good word to. Super easy but it just takes a while. Best to do on a Sunday while football is going on because it may take you a game or two.

      • Way to go Doctor!

I put together 2 bookshelves from IKEA a few weeks ago. One was successful. The other had a mishap (I flipped a board so the rough edge was on the outside). I paid better attention the second time around :)

      • Haha, that is a pretty proud accomplishment. I bought one of those bookshelves that are just a bunch of squares. Its held up pretty well. I just hate shopping there.

    • I did my first post in my movie review blog!

      • Awesome bud! Link, please?

  2. This weekend I watched The Faculty, Hollywood Homicide and Point Break.

I was really surprised by The Faculty, it was a lot of fun and a great addition to the Horror Scifi genre, even though it was also a comedy: 7/10.

Hollywood Homicide I started out pretty slow, but the last 45-60 minutes were pretty good and it actually got funny. but it was kind of all over the place through the first half: 6.3/10.

Point Break was good, there wasn’t really anything that stood out to me but it was solid: 6.5/10.

Watched Almost Human last night and really enjoyed it, glad we are getting another episode tonight. Mondays are gonna be really good from now on with both Almost Human and Sleepy Hollow.

    • Hey Faculty!! Right on!! Jon Stewart is GREAT in that!

Point break is one of those “special era flicks.” Now that you’ve seen Point Break, I recommend Bad Boys 2, followed by Hot Fuzz. ;)

      • Seen them both, love them both! Love the references in Hot Fuzz even though i didn’t fully understand the context until now.

        • so you’ve never fired you gun in too the air and gone Arrrrrgh

      • Aren’t they remaking Point Break (aka The Best Movie Charlie Sheen Ever Turned Down)?

    • I saw Dredd Year Zero last night too… pretty good.

Not sure who the “Almost Human” title is referring to, Karl Urban can seem pretty robotic. :)

    • The Faculty was a classic when I was in HS. Never saw HH but Point Break is one of my all time favorites! Love how stupid it is but its nice to see how far Cameron’s ex wife has come in so many years.

  3. I watched Beverly Hills Chihuahua 3 over the weekend. I haven’t seen the first two, but this one was pretty good for napping through with your daughter cuddling with you.

    3.5 Stars

    • LOL.

      CHI-WAA-WAA!

  4. Good Morning all….

I saw what, in my opinion, was the movie of the year, my overwhelming favorite by far so far this year, ‘All is Lost’. This movie was one of the best movies I have seen in a very long time. I had to search a while to find it showing locally, and Pepper and I had to drive a while to get there, but it was very, very well worth it. Robert Redford should get serious Oscar consideration for this role, he was excellent. Easily 5/5 stars for me. If you get a chance, go see this movie. I believe it’s in limited release, but if you can find it, go see it. I’d be very interested to see what others thought of it. :)

    • I believe its playing somewhere in my vicinity.. I’ll have to check it out! If I can’t find it I’ll definitely rent it when its released on dvd/bluray. I’ve been very curious about that one thanks for the recommendation. I’ll put it on my list.

On a (kind of) related note. I had to search around to find a place showing 12 yrs a Slave. I saw it on Friday and holy cow that was one heck of a movie!! It was like Django in real life. They really capture the brutality of slavery in a way that I have never seen before. It’s insane.

The agent guy from Serenity should definitely get an Oscar nod and Fassbender should win best supporting actor. He was terrifying.

  5. I tried watching the animated feature “The Invincible Iron Man” the other day and just couldn’t finish it. It was so cringeworthingly bad (the animations, the voice acting, the dialogue, just everything) that I rather stick with the live action movies, thank you very much. Iron Man 3 (which I really like) was Citizen Kane in comparison.

    • @ The Lost Winchester

I couldn’t agree more. That was an awful animated movie, as are most of Marvel’s animated movies. Most of Marvel’s animation efforts are very lacking all around. DC’s animation by comparison is excellent, and Marvel would do well to learn from some of their features. Marvel needs to fix those problems sooner rather than later. :(

  6. PS4 sold over 1 million units in its first 24hrs :) , how’s everyone doing this morning ?

    • Got my copy. Just wish there were better games…

  7. Happy for Miles Scott, aka Batkid. Great story!

    • That was a very cool Make-a-Wish. I hope more communities have large scale involvement like this for other kids’ wishes in the future.

  8. @chetc

I picked up my PS4 at the midnight release at gamestop with battlefield 4, assassins creed 4 black flag and killzone shadowfall.

    @Professor Procrastination

    I totally agree 100%.

  9. Since The Scarlet Witch won’t be able to utter the lines, “No More Mutants” in “The Avengers: Age of Ultron”, will she possibly mutter, “No More Powers?” or “No More Avengers” possibly paving the way for The Inhumans or the Infinity Stones to somehow “Bring the powers/Avengers” back?

  10. Alright… So this is my first test on the new mobile site. Love the simple layout but how can I tell which comment is a reply to which? Also, I had to switch from mobile to desktop version to view any article that wasn’t on the fos like the OD. The archive button wouldn’t work. Hope this is all beta lol.
