I’m seeing Twilight: New Moon… kinda excited because it’s a phenomenon. Kinda unexcited because it’s probably not gonna be very good.
I’m writing an article that focuses on both the Twilight phenomenon and why the first film didn’t work (for me). I’ll post the link when I’m done with it
Sam Worthington now says that he was never approached by George Miller for the role of Mad Max in Fury Road. That’s basically what fellow Australian Eric Bana said last month. How is it that Miller can cast Tom Hardy, a Brit, as Max without even giving these two talented Aussies a shot?
It begs the question. Is Hardy even playing Max?
There’s a 2% cance I might get dragged to New Moon. If so I’m taking my portable DVD player and my copy of Commando.
Hey, has anyone seen Moon (from Duncan Jones)? It came out on DVD here the other day and I was wondering whether to buy it or not. I heard it’s pretty good, pure Sci-fi, but I just wanted to know what any of you guys thought. Worth a buy?
The Good the Bad and the Illegal.
There is allot of talk about pirates, and the illegal activities they commit to get their precious Media material. Now, lets have a look at it. there are different types of “pirates” there are, mainly :
the ones that see the films in the theatre, download after than buy the dvd in most cases.
the ones that live in other country´s than USA, and download Tv episodes when they air
in America, so they don´t have to wait months or years to see it. they also often watch the
episode when it airs in their country.
You then have the ones, that are in full work, have a decent amount of money to spend, but doe´s not go to the theatre to see films, they do not rent or buy films, they just download dvd/blue ray Quality and watch it on their big flat screen in the living room – computer hooked up and all.
And you have the people that actually film movies in the theatre, upload it, or make copies to sell. they put episodes in order and make dvd seasons to sell.
- I belong to the first group, and I don´t feel bad about seeing show the same week as the Us. I use a fair amount in entertainment, I go the the movies twice a week as long as there are decent movies to see. I pay ca 19,50 $ Us for one ticket. If downloading was impossible, I would not use more money on entertainment, I would see less movies
in the theatre and buy only the films I knew I wanted to watch lots of times. I don´t have trouble sleeping at night because I feel I owe the entertainment industry money. and really – for 19,50 $ Us, don´t I deserve to see a film more than once?
If you are not in the small group of people in the Nielsen ratings group, does it matter if you download Tv episode? we have a similar system in Norway, these people have the responsibility of getting us our favorite shows. If you are a teen in a Nielson house hold, you should not download and watch Smallville because you dont have the time to see it the day it airs, you are the ratings, so let the Tv stay on the channel so they don´t cancel the show, ect
The people that cost the Entertainment industry money are cheap people with good jobs, than feel they don´t have to pay because they can get away with not paying. they are BAD.
Now filming on Cam in theatre, or making R5 from the projection room, is just plain piracy, and Illegal. Yes, downloading a Tv show is Illegal and yes, downloading a DVD
rip is illegal, but – is it bad?
Poor students and minimum wage workers can not afford to pay for every film they see, but as long as they start paying their share once they get to the money, should we not let them also get enjoy the fine entertainment that is made to make our life´s a little bit better and less boring?
Tv is all about the advertising money- write the program that hooks up to your webcam and will monitor some eye movement to confirm someone is watching, and after 10 minutes of ads you are free to legally watch the show you want. I would be better
than having Big bang theory broken into 4 pieces over 40 minutes on Tv. when there is ads in a show they cant even be sure you watch it, you would most likely flip between channels most of the ad break, go get snacks or to us the bathroom.
I don´t want to be an illegal “pirate”, but got damn it, I want to watch shows when they come out in the Us, not years later!
Hopefully, we can find a way to make everyone legal and able to watch what they want at the same time, for a fair price. I have hope for us, that we can find a way…
I really couldn’t stand the first twilight movie (too much of a chick flick for me I guess. LOL) But the trailers I’ve seen for New Moon have sparked a renewed interest. Any bets that the trailers are the only things that will be interesting?
@johnny-k
I have always said that whether you can afford it or not, stealing is stealing. But don’t get me wrong, all I’m stating are the facts, I’m not judging based on that. While I don’t actually do the downloading, I have received downloaded versions of movies from friends and I do watch them, but that’s usually after I’ve paid for them in theater and is just too anxious to see it again to wait for it to come out on blu ray, but when it does, I buy it as well.
Latest example is Star Trek. My friend gave me a pirated copy of Star Trek. I paid to see it in theaters 3 times, lol, and I preordered the collector’s set blu-ray from Amazon. But I really just wanted to watch it again, so my friend gave me the movie on a burned disc, and I watched it. Love that movie.
There are some foreign films that I’ve seen illegally since that’s the only way to see it here other than buying them since you can’t rent them and you can’t watch them in theaters, and my intentions for watching them illegally is to see if they are worth buying. Latest example is Ip Man. My friend gave me a pirated version because he recommended it to me. So I watched it, a few times, LOVED the movie, ordered the DVD through yesasia.com and then came here to tell everyone to go buy it.
But yes, I’m not going to go “oh but this, and that, and I’m poor, blah blah blah” The fact is, the studios didn’t intend for you to be able to access their movies this way, so technically what I was doing was stealing. I’m not making excuses for it, just stating it like it is. People that try to say it’s not stealing because the movie theaters charge too much… come on…
Like speeding, I hate when people whine and complain and talk crap about the cop for getting a ticket. Suck it up, you were breaking the law, and you got caught, just be nice to the cop and admit you were wrong. I’m not preaching, because I’ll be the first to admit, I speed sometimes too. The only difference is if I got caught, I knew it’s nobody’s fault but my own. The cop was doing his/her job, doing it well enough to catch me, so good job!
I am looking for someone to watch Zombieland with me again, although there are only like 3 theaters still playing it, lol. I will preorder the blu ray as soon as its available, and if my friend says “hey, I have a DVD quality rip of Zombieland, you want it?” I’ll probably be like “hell yah, can’t wait to see it again!”
Yes, I also have a suggestion for Films right, you should be able to buy watching rights, so when at the theatre you could buy a ticket that cost a bit extra and get the right to watch the movie- so if you download it or get it on a burned dvd you can see it legally – also when if you buy the actual dvd/blue ray – you pay less, cause you have paid for the movie- you just need to pay for the packaging. This way honest people that want to pay, but don´t want to wait for the dvd or own the real dvd could see it legally when they want.
I have one for Hollywood. Send all the movie blogs 1000 free tickets to each major movie to get the unbiased opinion of the watcher-elite with no strings, as a preview method for regional distribution trends. Ask Wall Street they will tell you; you should do this- and start with Screen Rant.
“As a poster to the rant; I solemnly swear to uphold my aggravation at Hollywood’s ineptitude and never be influenced by their forced gratitude!”
If you Hollywood change your business model to one of extreme gratitude then maybe with that gratitude will come extreme profits in the form of Slavic-following, remember Mr. Lee’s logic…
“When your opponent becomes the rock, be like water” “Use his weight against him and he shall drown in your power”
Can psychology not show deeply in-bedded traits that manifest as desire? Hollywood has no idea how propaganda works works? How subliminal advertising works?
Really???
Really?
Its a sad day when, fims like “Twilight New Moon” are considered a phenomenon.
Yeah Joshi, “Moon” is one of the best Sci-fi films of the year, I guess you didn’t read the SR review?
Man, Frost Nixon was good. I especially enjoyed the end:
At the end of the movie David frost and Caroline Cushing go to see Mr. Nixon, and he comments
“I gather that the journalists that were so kind to you, weren’t so kind to me”
“No condolences necessary I‘ve grown to expect nothing less from those sons of whores”
“I would have said sons of bitches, but Manolo here is a lover of dogs”
Even in disgrace and exile the President proves his loyalty to his people- the American people. It makes you wonder just how loyal Nixon really was. Did he know he had defeated Frost and decided to uphold the American political system at the end on purpose? Was Nixon that smart?
Yes he is.
Thank You, Mr. President
Nixon was a horrible president and responsible for many deaths,,,
Just my 2 cents.
Joshi
moon is definitely worth a buy. Some people disagree but I thought it was very interesting.
Guys,
are we going on political rants again?
Vic
you asked me, in another thread, what odd search engine results are coming up. I was looking for the a dark knight thread and it brought up the oldest threads on the site instead of the most recent. Don’t know if it happens every time but something I noticed a couple of days ago.
The next USA Fed program:
HR-WTF123
“Home Movie watching rights for the Poor”
Subsidized Home Movie Viewing
Any person making under $17,000 (single or $30,000 (married) will receive permission slips and will have the lawful right to download and watch pirated movies with no threat of jail time and/or fines.

Bruce,
Is there going to be a review of The Prisoner Miniseries?
It just finished last night.
Anyone remember The Equalizer?
That was one of the coolest shows of the 1980′s, and it seemed to get better with each season.
RIP Edward Woodward.
You beat me to it, Stephie. RIP Mr Woodward, star of TV shows Callan, 1990 and The Equalizer, and movies Breaker Morant and The Wicker Man, who died two days ago at the age of 79. One of his last film roles was an appearance in Edgar Wright’s vaguely Wickeresque Hot Fuzz. A sad loss.
This Twi-LITE New Moon pre-sells in tickets really bothers me. Is the general public that lame, or is the targeted demograhic that devoid of culture that they will watch anything with a bad script and worse CGI? I compared Twi-LITE as a BAD B movie as Vic did. The fan base of the fraud “American Idol” seems to go hand in hand with this tripe of teenage vamps and wolves. 2012: The end comes sooner than expected i.e November 20th 2009. Lord help us all!
Lol Tim!
Sorry fans, but “Twilight” and this “New Moon” movie and advertising strike me as soft core porn for teenagers…
Yeh get some making out and shirtless boys/gals/vamps overall porn-like story, dumb situations, deep longing for forbidden love torn between loyaties…
Its just bad teen soft core porn,,,
I can see how the teenage girls buy into it but the guy fans freak me out…
@790
“Sorry fans”
Yeah, I doubt there are many fans here on Screenrant.
Not to change the subject but has anyone noticed that Heroes has been kinda good for a couple of weeks now… Although I really wish they would have spent more time with Hiro in his trip to season 1… Heck they could have just done a re-boot and started all over right there after Hiro changes things in the diner back in season 1. Now… who knows but it’s been better lately.
Here’s my “Question of the Week” … are there some directors who have no business directing sci-fi, fantasy and horror movies, and who should stay away from the genre altogether?
Looking forward to reading your answers.
We all know “New Moon” is gonna make a ton of money at the B.O. this weekend though. I’d rather have “2012″ be number one again, even though I hate Roland Emerich and John Cusack, at least his “story” wasn’t based on a gay vampire book. I don’t understand all this Twilight garbage to be honest. It’s one thing to be obsessed with a movie or even a celebrity, but some of these Twilight-obsessed girls go overboard with it. Is there really anyone in the Twilight “films” with ANY acting ability whatsoever? Doesn’t look like it to me. I wouldn’t waste my time, and I know almost everyone here would agree that the Twilight “films” shouldn’t really be called films or
movies… Maybe jokes? Bad jokes.
@Stephie
Uwe Boll, McG, me.
The guy that directed the Batman films (I forgot his name) after Tim Burton sucked !!!
And any director that has directed any of Hugh Grant’s romantic comedies should not be allowed to direct sci-fi,!!!
Also Kofi, I finally watched “Fight Club” and thought it was decent, but I don’t get why its some peoples favorite film,,,
Ok, so I FINALLY caught up on FlashForward on a DVR marathon last night. I like the show, but the lead actor is HORRIBLE. Like he’s channeling his inner Shatner. LOL. I’m going to continue watching, but I hope that they start to speed things up a bit.
SPeaking of speeding things up, I thought last Friday’s episode of Stargate Universe was the strongest of the season. However, did I miss something at the end? It almost felt like they were leaving it for a continuation for this week.
@790…
Joel Schumacher directed those dreadful Batman movies which nearly destroyed the franchise. It took a long time before the memory of those bad Batman movies was erased enough for Christopher Nolan to revive the franchise and turn it into a powerhouse.
Also … I’m wary of any director who can work directorial magic with dramas go into sci-fi or horror and mess it up. Case in point: Lawrence Kasdan. He did an excellent job with The Big Chill and Silverado, but Dreamcatcher was awful.
I think a week or so ago I made a comment about how much I liked the Venture Brothers (Adult Swim/Cartoon Network). I’ll have to correct that statement. Season 1-3 are great. But it has gone downhill this season with, of all things, never ending pedophile jokes/situations. I quit watching after last week’s episode. The previews for the next one only get worse…
