  1. Good day ranters!
Since we can’t discuss it on the actual article: Jamie Foxx as Elektro… what’s everyone’s opinion?

I think it would be great. Foxx rocks and he could do a lot with the character – and really bring him into the spotlight. Hopefully things work out.

    • I’m interested to see what Jamie Foxx would bring to the character. If he is indeed Electro, then Electro probably wasn’t the character in the credits of TAMSM, Because it seemed to be a white guy with a different kind of voice than Jamie Foxx. If it was supposed to be Electro, than it’s just a continuity error. But I still think it was Norman.

      • I envisiones Electro differently (for obvious reasons) he is my favorite spidey villain really but I dont mind if hes played by Jamie Foxx because hes talented, Ive already gotten used to the idea at first I didnt like it but just because I didnt envision Foxx doesnt mean its going to be bad- Foxx is a talented actor so Im crossing my fingers he does the character justice. (If he gets it)

      • I think it was Miles Warren. And about Electro, I think Jackie Earle Haley would be great. The way he looked in Watchmen (without mask of course), that was perfect for Max Dillon.

      • All I could think in the credit scene was Vulture.

As far as Foxx I think he will be great. If he kills Shailene Woodley even better. I know it won’t happen but a boy can wish.

    • I hope they can pull off a good electro, he is a pretty awesome villain! Depending on what look they are going for he could look goofy, especially if they base it off the bolts mask shown in the picture in the article, but I have faith that they will get a cool look for Electro.

    • Why were the comments disabled yesterday?
I dont like foxx really and I think the new spiderman saga needs really likeable actors or its just gonna seem generic again.

    • Foxx would be a sick Electro! He’ll pull it off smoothly! I can totally see him play a modernized version of the character because Electro’s appearance needs a total revisiting. Doubt anyone with a blinding yellow star on their face and highlighter green spandex can be taken seriously.

I’d picture a new Electro to have a similar appearance to DKR’s Bane (without the mask ofc). Just imagining that and Foxx taking the helm with that rugged Django look would be bad*ss!!

However I still think it was Chameleon after the mid-credits scene.

      • It be cool if Osbourne already has his own Sinister Six/The Enforcers type group he uses as his super powered henchmen.

    • My only problem with the whole issue is, I’m a purist. I want the characters to match their original comic book counterparts as much as possible.

It also further blurs that line between which characters can be any race and which should not. Soon we will be discussing if “Blade” should be played by a white guy or Superman played by say an Asian. That’s why I think keeping things “as is” is the best choice imho.

  2. How ironic that u have a section called open discussion but disable comments on the Jamie Foxx Electro story as it may stir some controversy!!!! come on u are a movie site that invites discussion not shy away from it. Who cares what colour Electro is? im well pleased it could be Foxx as he is a top class actor regardless of race. In fact the issue of colour never even occured to me until you felt the need to mention it in your article.

    • I agree, but there will be people who make a big deal out of it, no question. There’s no stopping it though.

    • buster105e,

Kudos to you for not caring about the race of the actor who plays Electro – neither do we. But based on the number of racist comments on our Idris Elba/James Bond article and the ensuing flame war, we thought we’d nip things in the bud.

      Vic

      • Vic,

However, in this case, I feel that the benefits of having a comment section on the Electro article outweighs the costs. The reason why I visit ScreenRant for all of my movie news, is (besides of course from the well-written articles), the engaging and intelligent debates that go on in the comment section. Depriving us of expressing our opinions in an open, honest, and respectful setting is a bit disappointing. This is a pretty huge news story for us comic book movie fans, not just because of race, but because it’s a possible casting choice for the villain for an upcoming superhero movie. I’d really like to hear what my fellow Ranters think about having Electro in the movie and having Foxx possibly play him.

True, there may be racist comments, but you guys have very strict policies here, especially with your “ban-hammer”, Vic. Maybe I’m underestimating just how disgusting people can be (I personally did not read the Elba-Bond article or the comments section).

Either way, you guys obviously have the last say in this, but I thought it necessary to publicly request for the comment section on the Electro article to be opened.

      • In the days of an asian Hogun the Grim and a black Heimdall (both in Thor) and a black Nick Fury, I think it’s very sad that there’s still people who take offense in a change of race. Especially when they’re the same guys who cheered at Jackson’s Pulp Fiction character or jacking off to Rihanna’s nude pics.

    • I don’t blame Vic and the SR team for disabling the comments in the main article. I was worried they were disabled after some terrible comments so I was glad to see it was a preventive measure. If anything, it just makes posters aware to be mindful of their comments. I figured it would be discussed anyways with the Open Discussion thread today. As for the idea, I’m not opposed to it. I think he could bring some gravitas to what could be a cheesy role. I’ve never been a big fan of his (not that I didn’t like him either, just never was a big name to me) but the previews of him in Django Unchained has opened my mind to him.

    • **Sarcasm**

I am dissipointed in the selection of Sir Ben Kingsley for Mandarin as he is not green.

  3. I don’t even believe it yet. I’ve only seen a twitter post and at lot of speculation. As far him wearing a costume goes, I’m sure whatever they do for the movie will be different than what someone came up with for Halloween.

Otherwise, I’m not very familiar with Jamie Foxx, but the casting is fine with me. I hope they do something good with Electro, if that is the villain. He’s not very interesting IMO. I’ll wait and see what they do.

  4. Caught the pilot of Last Resort this week.

I enjoyed it a lot, actually more than I thought I would, and I will definately be watching it each week.

My only concern would be how far can they take this (season wise I mean) as I can’t really see this running for 4, 5, 6 seasons etc.

Anyway I enjoyed it and wondered if any fellow ranters have seen it?

    • I saw the pilot and thought it was pretty great. The acting and suspense was top notch! Unfortunately I haven’t seen any other episodes out of pure laziness and lack of memory. :(

    • @Captain Mal Reynolds

I’ve seen all episodes thus far of Last Resort. Love it! But I definitely agree, I’m not entirely sure how they’re gonna do more than one season, let alone 4, 5, 6.

      • I absoultly love Last Resort but unforttunetly do to its poor raitings it probably will not make it past one season but on the bright side ABC ordered 2 additional scripts though that is not an absoulte episode order that does mean there is a fairly good chance we will get a good ending to the show with no cliffhangers so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that ABC will let us have a final ending

    • count me in the “love it” group as well. and i cant see this going past 2 or 3 seasons. have they even ordered a full season yet?

  5. So I haven’t heard a lot about GOT season 3 lately, but yesterday I stumbled across some news that came out back in early October talking about an important chapter from ASOS.

So I’m not sure if has been discussed on here, but I read that the Red Wedding has been filmed for this upcoming season. I know there have been talks on this site about the Wedding being in season 3, but this just confirms it. People who were on set have reported that the scene is ridiculously good and that a body of a cow was used for the body of the dire wolf for what happens after the Wedding. Also, it’s been confirmed that the scene will take place during episode 9 of the upcoming season, which is really no surprise since in both previous seasons the most important scenes have happened in the 9th episode.

Anyways, what are everyone’s thoughts on this? The Red Wedding was probably my favorite chapter of all the books so far and I just hope the directors did a good job with this scene.

    • I like that. The Red Wedding is a perfect cliffhanger to end season 3. There are enough plotlines in book 3 to do season 4. Can’t wait!!

  6. Hi Guys

Quick question; Do I really NEED to watch American Horror Story s1 before s2? I watched the first 2 episodes of season 1 and found it quite dull but season 2 looks pretty awesome

    • its optional because season 2 works good as a standalone series. btw i tought the same about the first season at the begining but i changed my mind afterwards

  7. Has Foxx every played a bad guy before? I think Idris Elba could do Bond or Electro, I liked him alot in The Wire.

  8. Funny Parody. Disney Executives try to come up woth Potential Star Wars Director’s.

  10. I am going to post this. It seems some people would be against Jamie Foxx as Electro and some are for Jamie Foxx as Electro.

Take in mind, I am of African Decent.

Where I am Stationed, there are a few select racist people, from the Ayran Nation to the KKK. I walk in town with my wife, I get names called at me, I get threats and so forth.

One day, a group of Klansman went out on a little fishing trip, their boat there was a hurricane, they took on water and their pump failed, they were sinking, they gave out an SOS, I was Up next, CO Asked me ” These are part of the guys who are racist towards you, we can send another crew.” I went, ” I signed up for the Coastguard to save lives, not pick which lives I intend to save.”

With that, I rescued them, bought them back to land, reunited them with their families and racist friends.

So, Why cant Electro be black?

    • @Jeff W, Wow! You are the f*ing man! That story blew me away. There should be more people like us out there. It’s a shame people (like the KKK) are still stuck in that mentality, it seems so socially immature. What were the Klansmen’s reaction after you saved them?

Also, I’m all for Foxx being Electro. I love the idea and he will be a great fit!

      • @Outlaw Nope, is duty to save lives, nothing more. I would do it again and again. Someone has to help those who cant help themselves.

Why Took the Oath, and that is the oath I live and swear by.

        • @Jeff W, Interesting, I then salute you. However if it wasn’t your duty, would you have still saved them?

          • @ Guardian, yeah. Kind of what led me to the Coastguard, once saved a bully from drowning…2 days after he stole my lunch.

            • Wow, you are the living example of “turn the other cheek”.

              Well done sir, well done.

            • @Jeff W, lol then y did you say “Nope” back there, we were agreeing on the same thing.

    • Kudos to you sir.

    • Sounds like you are are greater man than many. That should get some backward racists thinking. Keep it up and take care!

  11. How many of you complained that Nick Fury was going to be played by SLJ?

    • probably none, as the fact im trying to get across is the majority of people didn’t know what colour he was originally, so as i said why draw attention to someones race in an article, when most people wouldn’t know what race they were anyway?

    • If people don’t like the idea of them changing a characters race, sex, national origin, it really doesn’t matter to me, It is their right to feel that way, and even if the comments they make are distasteful I am the type of person who would rather know where people stand then them being phony.

That said I find it funny how people cling to things like imaginary characters and what they should look or act like, not unlike the old “controversy” over people of various races playing Santa Claus.

The other irony is how comic book and sci-fi fans, who have been maligned over the years and called plenty of names by people outside of the scene, lose all their open-mindedness when it comes to things like this.

    • Nick Fury is black in some comics. I know he was originally white, but they might have based him off the newer comics.

  12. Can’t wait for walking dead this Sunday. This governor character is really going 2 be a serious problem for rick and the crew. Hopefully they won’t follow everything within the comic, cause from what I read in his history file [Removed by Moderator]. I certainly hope amc won’t plan on showing that disgusting, horrific act.for God’s sake please don’t.

As for Jamie foxx as electro, no problem with it at all, but I still prefer the scorpion for the next villian in ASM 2.

    • THE WALKING DEAD COMICS SPOILER ABOVE!!!

Rome, hey, you may want to place a spoiler heading above a post like that next time. There are some Ranters who haven’t read TWD comics, and they may not want to know what happens.

      • @$2, yep a spoiler warning would be nice, I for one have never read the comics, however I remember reading in a past blog about TWD and they were talking about the governor character, and bad things that happen.

No one mentioned any specific ‘acts of violence’ against specific characters, however as part of the cast are women it really didn’t take a great leap of logic to come to that conclusion on my own. If you have a character who is an out and out total bastard then even the ‘r’ word is not off limits for a character like that. Especially in a show which is really about the end of the world as we know it.

Bad things are going to happen.

        • Oops! Sorry about that.

          • @rome, well the only thing spoiled was ‘who’ the victim was.

But, even for a fairly graphic show I don’t think there’s any reason to actually show it happening, they could allude to it.

So I’m with you on the hope they don’t show it part.

          • No worries. If you guys get the chance, you really should read the comic. Not only is it a great story, but it’s also interesting how the TV show and the comic are on two storyline paths that cross, separate, cross, etc.

  13. Stan Lee confirms Dr Strange. Says Black Panther is on the way.

” … I can tell you there will definitely be a Dr. Strange movie! They are working on Antman, which requires really small cameras! Black Panther is being developed, one of my favorites…the Inhumans…All the hero’s will eventually be made into movies.”

    Source:
    http://www.scaddistrict.com/blog/2012/11/02/stan-lee-qa/

    • Black panther. Come on with it marvel and what about the sub mariner movie?

      • I would not be surprised if they bring him in through Cap3.

  14. Justice League, Avengers 2, Star Wars episode VII
    all in 2015
    let that sink in.

    • Avengers Yes.

      Justice League, we shall see.

Star Wars? Give me more time to accept this, not all that Disney turns to gold.

And if they make Star Wars based on games I never knew, played, or saw. PASS.

      • disney made wreck it ralph which is 24k gold, I mean disney at their worst is still decent.

    • your forgetting avatar 2, possible bond film and the final hunger games film.

      • thats great now avatar will hopefully get plowed by competition which it didnt have the first time.
Cause yknow I hate avatar an was actually forced to watch it twice after I watched it voluntarily and hated it.
Unless It does some sly crap like coming out in december again when theres nothing to do but movies and no competition.

    • Also Ant-Man!

  15. vic
I think part of what i was trying to say was maybe missed, i said it before in my JL post as a non comic book fan the majority of movie goers dont know the history/previous characters from the comics, Electro will be new to 90 odd % of the people who make it money, so they wouldnt know wether he was white, black, green or blue! yet u like most mainstream media feel the need to draw attention to the characters race, it shouldn’t matter what colour he is as long as its a good actor, and as i said i didn’t even think about the race card until u mentioned it in your article, its all very well to sit disable comments and say race doesn’t matter, but if thats the case why draw attention to it, when as ive said the majority of us wouldnt know Electro from Adam, I expected better from this site, but u are no better than the mainstream media, god forbid an article doesn’t add an element of danger!!!!!

    • @buster105e – It may not be an issue to you (and it’s not for me either) but the internet is full of trolls, jerks, bigots and racists – they would never say half the things in public that they do online (Keyboard Kommandos I call them) but given the chance they spew vitriol and hatred all over our forums. I can’t tell you how many comments I deleted and people I banned for being rude and downright vile on the mere POSSIBILTY of Idris Elba playing Bond. So with that in mind, we made the decision NOT to open comments on the Foxx/Electro article.

You don’t have to agree with it.

      Thanks,
      Paul Young – Moderator

    • It’s just the Internet, so at times we have to remember not to take it seriously. Like you said the majority of the world probably don’t have a clue who Electro is, let alone have an opinion about who plays him in a movie. All of the speculation about casting in these types of films is just being done to garner some interest, because most of the time it is going to be an actor drawing power that brings in non-comic book fans to these movies, they don’t care about the accuracy of comics that they have never read.
