Vic Holtreman of Screen RantIt’s Wednesday again, time for our regularly scheduled open discussion post.

As usual – talk about whatever you like as long as it’s related to movies, TV or Screen Rant itself – just remember to play nice. :)

  1. Hey Ink,

There is also an alternative for that!

If you would rather add an exception just for Disqus, click “Exceptions…” and add disqus.com as an allowed domain.

  2. Hey McChops,

Yeah, we've had a couple bumps in the road but we've resolved most of it. This blog post from a week or so ago explains the speed improvements we've made globally: http://blog.disqus.com/post/397517128/making-di…

  3. Personally I would like to see the candidates run through a boot camp and see who cuts the mustard. Performance based selection. Now I realize I might be trying to corral the horse after its already left the farm, but can they really afford to be wrong in any way on this? At this juncture I wouldn't be surprised if we don't hear about a release postponement. Then again maybe some very sneaky people have been working deep behind the scenes on this and have the solution ready for a dramatic reveal…

  6. ok so i want to talk Lost! is anyone else paying attention to it?:D its only come the first 2 episodes here in norway tho, but i enjoyed them both. it seems like everyone i know hates Lost.. and that its so confusing.. oh well, i suppose it can be that at times. but are there 2 dimensions now in Lost? i mean.. the bomb did work.. so did it create an alternate reality? one where nothing happened and one where they are stuck on the island, or continue their journey there? what do u think will happen throughout the season? now dont go on giving me MAJOR spoilers! (if u've seen more episodes than i have) just opinion and thoughts:)

  7. Count me in as another who would like the old system back.
But I will still be here either way.

  8. Since the US must be sensitive to every nation's cultural peculiarities and outright uncivilized behaviors, the least we could get here without complaints is the preference to have a comic book hero named Captain America – be American.

Im so tired of hearing people complain anytime Americans attempt to show pride and patriotism, even when it's at the entertainment level of comic books. Sheesh!

  9. As for this site, I have no replying to individual's post or editing my posts here. Im not understanding the problem in those regards.

  10. It WAS funny stuff, now it's flagged as spam. :)

  11. All I can say is I never had any problems with the old format, and with Disqus I have…problems. For me it's erratic at best: pages sometimes loading with no comments box or no comments at all, or as pure text with no background, or the “Like” button only working when it wants to…

Even if my settings are to blame, allowing Disqus in “Exceptions” as Gianni suggested seems to have done nothing.

I do like the replying to specific posts and edit facilities though.

  12. Well I've just had a comment disappear into thin air overnight. It was there on the page. I saw it with my own eyes. It's got to the stage now where I turn on my computer and wonder what fresh hell awaits me from Disqus.

    Old format: no problem.

New format: problems. Daily and randomly.

I like the replying to specific posts and edit facilities though, on the occasions they decide they'll work for me.

  13. Hi Vic. I've been visiting Screen Rant for close to 2 years. You are my main outlet to the US movie industry since I moved to Germany 2 years ago. I only just started participating. I've liked all the changes you've made to the site. I think personal pages would be nice to have if you regularly visit the site and comment. I miss having the latest news at the top. I now have to go to each of the main categories to see if I missed anything. Sort of a bummer. Hey, I do a fair amount of web site usability testing and if you ever need any assistance let me know :-) I'd also love to participate in a test for Screen Rant if you need user feedback (this is probably it, yeah?). Best of luck in whatever you decide is best for the site and users. Thanks for asking us :-) Bis bald.

  14. What do you mean “the latest news at the top”? I don't remember it that way.

    Vic,

just in case you switch back to the old style (even though I'm fine with this system) i think being able to just “subscribe” to certain threads is key for me. just thought i would throw it out there.

  15. Instead of “Popular Topics” it was called like “Latest News” or something like that I think. The title of this section I must admit I don't quite remember, but I do remember that as each SR author/editor posted a story they would show up in this area. It was convenient for me so as I checked into the site throughout the day I could see all the new posts. I very rarely missed a new one.

Now I go to “Movie News” or “TV News”, etc. to see what has been posted. It's just a convenience thing for me. I do have an RSS feed coming into my iGoogle page and can monitor what's being posted on SR too.

  16. Jennifer

maybe it was “latests comments”. I'm not sure but I think I know what you're talking about now.
