A live action akira movie based on the original graphic novels and not the movie, this could be great if they would have hired a director and writer who weren’t first timers. Being first timers both Gary Whitta and Ruairi Robinson I don’t have an idea if they are fans of the series or if this even be worth the time and money.

They could have easily just took the anime and redone it in live action format. The script is there and the most advance storyboard one could have hope to get. We know the technology is there for this to happen; when can see this in the Kayne West music video stronger.

Why does Hollywood have to ruin a good thing; and what is with the wave of the live action anime that america seems to want to spawn upon us?

Hey Vic, last time we spoke it was regarding “I am Legend” and its origins from Richard Mathesons book. Today I have a question regarding T.V. How did that horrible show “The Sarah Connor Chronicles” end? Just curious. Hopefully bad enough that it wont return for round two.

I can’t think of any off the top of my head, but I believe there are a handful of movies directed by “first timers” that have been quite good as well as successful. But for a huge production like “Akira” you’re probably right.

Matt, regarding “Chronicles,” I stopped watching during the second episode although I understand it improved after that. I’ll have to catch it on DVD or something.

Maybe some other regulars here can fill you in.

Hey,

Me and a friend of mine have been thinking about casting for Thor. According the imdb someone is rumored, but from what we can see they look a bit too much of a runt for the thunder god. Any news or opinions on who will/should play Thor?

Also, I heard somewhere the Captain America movie was close to being canned, can anyone tell me if this is just hearsay

I would love to see sean bean play Thor. i think he has the perfect look for him (ala Lord of the Rings), and I’m sure he could bulk up appropriately for the role. plus he’s actually a good actor.

i haven’t heard anything about the captain america movie being canned, although we probably won’t see it for a couple years or so. supposedly marvel has only one movie coming out next summer, and it seems that Thor and Ant-Man are further along than Cap, so it’ll probably be one of those two

Hey,
Was wondering what everyone’s thoughts on Liev Schreiber playing Sabertooth.

Gravatar
March 5th, 2008
Thor’s a tough one to cast. These days they’re drawing him younger and with a smoother face than they used to. Seems to me there are a number of directions they could go in with it.

I think Shreiber will make a good Sabretooth. He’s a great actor and he looks pretty bulked up right now. I didn’t post the recent pics because honestly I thought they were a crappy way to get a first look at the character since they were just him walking around on the set instead of in the context of the movie.

Hugo Weaving MUST play Brainiac in the next Superman film! :-)

Kel-
Why??…

Tac-
I think Liev will make a good Sabertooth. I’m actually excited to see Wolverine. I’ve been waiting to see Gambit in action since I read they actually cast and shot him in the first X-men movie, then subsequntly cut all the scenes (even though this may have been rumor).

Kieran-
I liked the idea of Tyler Mane being Thor. Of course, I’d prefer him to repose his role as Sabertooth too, but for some reason, no….. I’m sure whoever lands the role of Thor will be aid in adding another blockbuster movie to Marvel’s repertoire.

Vic-
Awesome idea about open floor discussion!!

“Why?”

Because he’d be totally AWESOME in the role is why! :-) I think he’s perfect for the part.

Also, does anyone think that Dustin Hoffman might be right for Sinestro? Maybe if he were younger? Just a thought. :-)

Dustin Hoffman is like Henry Winkler now, hes not gonna do anything serious.

Thor I can easily see ruined by bad casting, because if they want to tell the story normally told, then it requires a completely normal guy who can act like Thor as well, and be able to make that transition convincingly.

Also the Hugo Weaving thing, I don’t care what hes in I just want to see it, he absolutely awesome as any role.

Just a quick note to all, Patrick Swayze is NOT dying in 5 weeks. He DOES have pancreatic cancer but the doctors say that it’s looking good.

Just so people won’t start freaking out and spewing out old DVDs like Roadhouse in a ultra super duper double dip, I just got word from a close friend of Patrick, saying that he is actually working on a film now and is well enough to work. So… I don’t know…

I didn’t know about Swayze having cancer. Man that’s the disease from hell. :-\

Regarding the TDK trailer, there’s a RUMOR that it might be attached to “10,000 B.C.”

The Sarah Connor Cronicles ended very well Matt…

The show has improved almost in each episode… Their taking the show in a direction that works well over a 22 episode season arc.
Basically, Skynet is in its pupea stage before Judgement day. Sarah and John Connor along with Cameron (protector terminator) each week wage small yet precise attacks on Skynets. construction. Meantime,,,Cromarte (bad terminator from the pilot ep.) Is relentlessly pursuing John.
There’s some great scenes where the 2 terminators come very close to each other yet Cameron is able to prevent it. Cameron, played by Summer Glau is one of the best casting choices I have seen in a long time. Not to mention the actor that plays John Connor. He was great in Heroes and he’s great as JC.
There’s a few minor things that bother me about the show but overall its a fast paced well written episodic Terminator tv show. The season finale was very good and had 2 real great scenes. One in where John Connor meets Kile Reese as a little kid. (That scene had a real cinamatic feel to it).
And also a great scene where Cromarte takes out an entire swat team at a hotel without the viewer ever seeing how he did it. (It was shot with an underwater camera in the Hotels pool. We hear what’s going on but the action is cop after cop falling into the pool dead “in slow mo”from the attack up on the 2nd floor of the hotel). I remember there was a great Johnny Cash track playing in the background. It was easliy the best scene in the entire series….!

The show was halted after its 11th episode due to the WGA strike. I’m positive that it will continue to round out its 22 episode schedule this year. We could
see new episodes by September.
They did a great job with the last episode and yes it did end on a huge cliffhanger that needs to be resolved.

I’m betting FOX will also renew this show for a second season with a full 22 episode run that will leed
right up to the new Terminator film in 09. The presence of a hit TV show will add Millions to a summer box office movie. One that is targeted for the same weekend Star Trek 11 comes out.

Paramount’s not good with release dates. IMO.

Anyone out there a fan of the sci-fi show LEXX?
I sure wish Paramount would release the first season of that great show on dvd. And I would love for that show to continue in some way. Same with the UK sci-fi show Red Dwarf. They were going to make a movie then the budget fell through that was 5 years ago. Sure would be great to use the same cast. Come on BBC step up!!!
Also I’ve heard rumors that the great folks at Jim Henson studios are gearing up for a Farscape movie…sure would love to here more!
Also best wishes to the Swayze family I sure hope he gets past this.

Hey 790: I enjoyed the SCC’s too.. but I read something that lead me to look a little differently at it - that the studios are cutting costs, so the fight scenes have limited affects, and creative editing. ie: cops falling out of the sky into the pool dead.. what was the FBI agent thinking when he made the call to raid a terminator he knew to be a terminator?? Now all those deaths are on his head?

But it was cool with the music and watching them all come tumbling out of the sky.

“They did a great job with the last episode and yes it did end on a huge cliffhanger that needs to be resolved.”

The only thing that needed to be resolved from the cliffhanger is who that was that caused that “scene”. I fully expect Cameron to just step out of the wrecked vehicle no less worse for wear, except of course her clothes all blown to bits.. leaving her…. hmm, Fox could have a bit of an interesting episode opener if the show comes back now that I think about it. hehe…

Hey Bruce, not only does FBI agent have all those deaths on his mind how’s he going to explain how he lived thru it too his boss’s.
“Yea it was a robot that killed them” he’ll be thrown in the pysche ward for at least a week or so. His only witness is the Medec. He better hope he colaberates his story.
Wow.
What a great scene that was! I’m petty sure Cromarte let the FBI agent live because he has the “hand”. And obviously Cromarte needs it …? (Who knows). The shows great. The actor that plays Cromarte is great too. I remember him from “Deadwood”. He played a few bad guys in that series as well.

Now that TSCC’s over Monday nights dead on tv. Same with the whole week mostly. (Time to start watching some dvd’s)…

Vic id love to see some more “Terminator Sarah Connor Cronicles” info on Screenrant. Anybody out there with me on that?

The BC movie needs a comma.

790, not to speak for another, but I know Steve Adams is a Lexx fan.

Any Lost fans here who actually watch the “enhanced episode” with the pop-up factoids? I skim through them…it’s like a mini “Director’s Commentary.”

Is anyone here going to pick up the straight-to-DVD Stargate SG-1 movie on Tuesday?? I for one, will be picking it up. I loved the show, even with all the cornball changes the last couple of years (like adding the cast of Farscape). I hope that this ends the Ori story once and for all and that it opens the door for other SG-1 features.

As for Sarah Connor Chronicles, I thought it kicked butt!! I am hoping that they give it a good time slot next year-right where it is-because I think the show has ALOT of potential!! The ending was cool, but we know she’s going to walk out of it…but it will be sans SKIN!!!

This is a VERY cool idea, Vic.

Hey Andy, did you see the Farscape mini series (the peacekeeper wars)?
That’s was real good.

I’ve heard that there trying to come up with a good script for a Farscape film.

How cool would that be?

Actually 790, I didn’t really watch Farscape. For the longest time I didn’t have cable, so I was limited to what was on network TV. I did see a couple of episodes once I got cable, but I never understood what the series was about. I did think it was hysterical on that special edition of SG-1 when they had them in Farscape outfits….

10-4 Andy, I saw that SG1 episode. It was actually a Star Trek parody more than a Farscape one but I do remember them using the farscape terminology. Frelling and all.

Farscape is the story of a NASA test pilot that launches his test flight during a solar flare and hyperspaces across the galaxy only to end up on a ship of escaped convicts. Its a great show I reccomend you buy the dvds Andy you’ll love them.

THEME SONGS

What are you faves? Sci Fi please.

Anyone have the theme song for a 70’s syndicated show called UFO? I don’t recall the short-lived show, but as a kid I thought that sequence was the best!

I also liked both the theme songs for Lost in Space. I favor the one that begins with the ascending horn piece.

The only Trek song that I enjoyed was Deep Space Nine. I don’t know why mature Trek always went with slow, boring arrangements. But with Deep Space Nine it fit better, because, instead of an active, adventurous vessel, we had a delicate looking station poised in space. So the graceful music seemed more fitting. I despised the ballad for Enterprise.

The 4400 theme had a creepy, wispy feel to it, that fit the premise of the series (back when it had the semblance of a plot).

Unless it is a tip of the hat, I never understood why the opening/teaser (or maybe outro) of Battlestar Galactica has a tribal sounding HOOH-HAHH *exactly* like Farscape. Is it stealing or is it homage?

aah yea Jim so many great themes.
The show UFO had a great theme. As did the second season of Space 1999.
One of my Favorite themes is the Doctor Who theme. They have really perfected it with the new series.
Babylon 5 season 5 I thought was real good. Escape from NY and The Thing were very good and both co-written by John Carpenter himself. I thought Star Wars, Close Encounters and Jaws had prob the most memorable sountracks. (All John Williams BTW)
Farscape great theme. As well as Red Dwarf and LEXX.(Really liked when Elvis sang the Red Dwarf theme). I guess ya had to be there.

Great themes really make great sci-fi more effective!

I’m thinking how Lost and Battlestar Galactica have recurring “suspense” music, that is just one repeating note.

Lost had a great arrangement with real tense music at the start of the S2, when they actually showed what was in the hatch from the point of view of the hatch itself! It started with old “Mamas and Papas” song (ick) but visual and audio took an abrupt turn into overdrive with urgent violin based theme. Then horns came in…do TV shows get awards for music? I watched that opening minute or two over and over based largely on the great music! Are you a Lostaholic? I can’t wait every week.
