As usual – talk about whatever you like as long as it’s related to movies, TV or Screen Rant itself – just remember to play nice.
FYI, some MOS concept art, showcasing subtle versions of the suit and shield:
Hope this ain’t true:
It seems to be the case, not that the film will be bad its just not tracking well at all. It was drawing comparison to a power rangers film from audiences. Grown ups 2 is tracking far better that week. Im not suprised monster movies arent as popular as they use to be
I weep for civilization…”Grown-Ups 2″? Really??? “Pacific Rim” actually seems to require an intelligent imagination higher than that of the average squash…GU2? Not even close…
Again, I weep for our future…The premise of “Idiocracy” is coming to pass.
I don’t see how this leads to the premise of “Idiocracy” coming to pass. I’m not really excited about either one but each has their own built in fan base. People know what to expect with an Adam Sandler movie and with Pacific Rim, it’s a sci-fi/monster movie, but because it’s got a nice polish some think it’s more than a super rock’em-sock’
The premise of “Idiocracy” was the gradual dumbing down of civilization. If GU2 outdoes PR financially and popularly (Gott in Himmel, I hope NOT critically!), it will confirm for me what I already suspected: Civilization is falling into a roiling quagmire of stupidity.
I stand (sadly) by my statements.
it seems very grandiose of you to think just because some people dont like sci-fi, that they are less intelligent than you. i didn’t realize your opinions are the measuring stick of the brain-power in this country. we should all bow down to you i guess.
it could be that people are getting tired of “yet another transformers” movie, because to average joe moviegoer, that’s what it looks like. not everybody obsesses over movies like you, me, and the other scranterstm around here, so lighten up some will ya’?
I never said or implied people who don’t like science fiction aren’t as intelligent as those who do, nor that those who like high school potty humor aren’t smart. I merely believe that “Grown Ups 2″ will be dumb and that “Pacific Rim” will be a much smarter (and, I think, much better) film…thus, I think it SHOULD do better than the Sandler money-grab.
By the way, the viewing public might be tired of robot movies…shouldn’t they ALSO be tired of stupid joke gag movies? Personally, I prefer one over the other…that is MY opinion.
Oh, and I need no one to bow to me, but if you wish to do so, feel free. It’s no skin off my hide either way…
I’ll get right on that.
not even out yet lmao… all they need to do is show it on tv like every other movie and the kids will make their parents go to it. its also out during the summer holiday (in uk, not sure about us) so the cinema will be very busy.
The largest obstacle I think it’s facing, is the questionable decision to have the dual pilots. It just comes off as silly. I find it very hard to take seriously. I hope if this movie does tank, it does not affect next years Godzilla.
WHY would two pilots be silly for such a huge, unwieldy machine? I find that to be a logical, well thought-out, intriguing concept that may in fact elevate this film a bit over similar such films…
“2 heads are better than 1″
It would be logical if they would control different aspects of the machine and coordinate the effort. It’s silly, because from what we’ve seen in the trailer the two pilots seem to be completely synchronized in what they are doing.
My thoughts exactly.
The dual pilots is required because one person can’t handle the link up to their brain.
And because it requires 2 pilots, they must be synchronized in order to pilot the robot properly.
ScreenRant had a post about this earlier.
You know what, you’re a Big Nerd.
Big, nerdy… and proud.
I like reading your blog.
Because it LOOKS silly as filmed.
Brian, LostW, and leather…
I guess we shall simply have to agree to disagree. I find it an interesting and original and thoughtful concept…as explained by BigNerd and movieDude (thanks to both of you).
I despise auto-correct…That should be BRI, not BRIAN.
My name is Brian, you are fine lol.
What I find amusing is how you are all defending the idea as logical, when I am simply saying how it comes off LOOKING in the trailers. I am not discussing the “merits” of the idea behind this pseudo-science, I am talking about how it looks in the trailers. It LOOKS ridiculously silly.
No more ridiculous then a robot pi**ing on someone or a robot with balls……
The other side effect to this “link-up” is that each pilot shares each other’s thoughts and emotions because they are basically “one” brain.
That leads to outside “issues” since you now know what the other is thinking. Imagine if your spouse knew all your thoughts (and history) or your best friend or your co-worker.
They talk about it in one of the featurettes online. Its pretty cool, in the movie they try having one dude control the jaeger but its too much for his brain to handle and his ears start bleeding. They need two people to be able to withstand the.. pressure? or sciency talk something. Idk but it sounds legit and looks pretty cool.
Two Pilots…Piloting a giant robot?
Kind of like two Pilots required to work in Unison on a C-5 Galaxy. Yeah one pilot can turn the yoke and turn the plane, however during turbulence, it is required that two pilots control the plane in unison, so that each know what the other is thinking.
Dude, you’re back! How’s the new tax deduction doing?
She is doing fine. Thanks for asking.
Speaking of, how are you feeling?
Started getting winded again, walking up stairs. Decided to go ahead and use the oxygen my doctor prescribed for me. Otherwise, I’m fine.
The two pilots thing I think is cool, and necessary. The concept is very cool, and I don’t think it will at all effect the way the audience responses to the movie.
it will rule overseas in asia.
That’s probably correct.
“This years Battleship”???
Are you kidding me?!? PR looks amazing, Battleship was just a big commercial for the Navy, IMO. If PR bombs, I’ll be amazed.
I’ve been convinced for a while, Anthony, that it will bomb. I think opening weekend it will do okay. Come in #1. But it wont last.
like man of steel?
Correct. Keep in mind though. MoS was the most successful origin CBM of all time for opening weekend. It wasn’t a flop. Its decline in rev wasn’t bad compared to other summer blockbusters with big hits the following weekend. So we’ll see what it closes all together. So far, WW its over 400 million.
i dont really care. you are sayng that pacific rim will have the same outcome as man of steel… lmao, doesnt sound so bad now does it.
Then why did you ask?
i was pointing out that what you are saying is not bad, you seen to make out that it was.
MoS’s trend isn’t all that bad. I never said though that it would do 100+ opening weekend. That’s where it might not succeed. 60, maybe 70 million opening weekend. And then have the same 60%+ decrease the following weekend and worsen as time goes on. I think this movie will make its budget back, but barely, and take its entire run in theaters, domestic and worldwide combined.
I dont think Pacific Rim will all that good. I hope it does because Im a huge fan of Guillermo del Toro.
With WB being the ones behind Pacific Rim, would it be bad news for the DC universe if it flops?
i dont think you know what youre talking about.
I don’t think so, I think it’s actually bad news for Legendary more than WB if it bombs.
I’m seeing no matter what.
According to the article, only 25% of the production cost is paid by Warners. The remaining balance is paid by Legendary.
And, since Legendary and WB are splitsville, with WB taking more of an interest in their DC properties, it shouldn’t be much of a hit to the WB.
I do find it a little odd talks between Legendary and WB on renewing
their partnership broke down just before the release of Pacific Rim.
As if Warner’s is not liking how that project is working out.
Maybe WB doesn’t want to help find their future projects? Doesn’t trust their judgment anymore?
Something like that.
If WB senses Pacific Rim may be a major bomb
after a heavy sell originally by Legendary
I would say WB would lose trust.
I see it the falling out happening because of the lack of promotion by Warner Bros. for Pacific Rim
If Warner’s suspects failure, they would be reluctant to promote it.
Legendary would blame WB if it fails, because it was not promoted.
Here is the first clip. Looks like Hunnam is going to be playing Jax from SOA, and I’m not complaining.
This years battleship as in it wont make its budget not as in quality of film. Tho reveiws from the first showing has been very mixed. It wont make MOS money
I’m seeing this for Idris Elba.
No matter what he will be good.
You and me both
Well, I am still seeing it!
Since Terminator 5 is going to be the start of a new trilogy… and its not going to continue from Salvation… then where does it continue from? Rise of the Machines? I am okay with that. I hope they continue in the Sarah Connor Chronicles somehow. I liked that series. It ended in a bad way.
Why in God’s name do they want to do another Terminator Movie with Arnold…I aint afraid of a slow moving geriatric robot.
They should attach a robotic walker for him.
I would guess Arnolds role to be a glorified cameo.
Seriously? Terminator 5? What’s that for? Sigh
If the rumors are true and The Rock is actually attached to T5, it might be decent. Of it’s just Arnold, I’m not so sure.
Being released in 2015 doesn’t help any. That year is already crammed with blockbusters.
The Rock is the most electrifying man in Entertainment. I will watch anything he is in.
I’ll call you Rocco, like from Boondock Saints.
I never saw that. Was it good?
Ugh… You’re dead to me LOL.
I guess it was good.
And I really should have seen it.
I’ll pick it up and get caught up.
Just checked it and I remember why I passed on it.
Willem Dafoe. Not a fan here. But I’ll get it anyway.
What is a Boondock Saint?
I guess I am to, because I’ve never seen it. I hope Netflix carries it for streaming.
Netflix lost the streaming due to the contract fallout with Sony. We can have a viewing party at my house. I’ll buy if Jeff W flies.
Jeff can bring the steaks. And you don’t mind if I bring the kids do you? I’ll have to leave early, but trust me, I’ll be back. Trust me.
As long as they play well with my son, then absolutely, please bring them! The wives can watch the kids while we entertain ourselves in the man cave LOL.
I am not dead!! (to leathercheerio)
But, I disliked the sequel.
@Prof – If I were to give the first one an 8.5, in comparison, the second one would be a 6. Not as good but not terrible.
That’s true. 2015 is crammed with a good number of movies. Id be surprised if T5 did just alittle bit better than T3 did. I wouldn’t hold my breath.
What am I flying that is the question?
Cross country in a Jayhawk is not going to be comfortable.
Now, a G5…Yeah that will work.
AN NO KAHLESS I AM NOT BRINGING THE STEAKS!
Dairy Cows, not Beef Cows…sheesh
A cow is a cow, meat is meat, and it’s all good on the bbq.
The Dark Knight Returns.
How’s the little angel doing?
Little Angel is fine. I got home at around 330 this morning..just in time to have her wake up crying like …well…er..um…a baby.
Katee was however, immensely happy to see me, she went right back to bed.
That’s great news, Jeff. She’s a precious gift.
A 3:30 wake up call is par for the course.
(A little U.S. Open humor there)
Welcome back Jeff.
Past couple of weeks was…ROUGH!
But my 100 FOOT Tall Robo Cow is fully functional!
PREPARE FOR MY WRATH YOU BURGER AND BEEF EATERS!
I think I saw it in one of the Pacfic Rim trailers.
Didn’t one of the robots hit one of the monsters with it?
That’s what I thought I saw.
I heard there might be a button scene with it laying on a giant size grill….cooking.
I seem to recall speculation Arnold may not be another robot in this.
Maybe the human used for the prototype of his original Terminator.
Why should he be in it at all? Obviously, he’s too old to play the Terminator, and I’m not sure what story can be told that necessitates him being in it.
Sorry, it’s a money grab for him and the studio. The franchise has been in need of some serious vision/leadership for quite some time. Joss Whedon was interested in obtaining the rights for it a while back; too bad it didn’t go through (like he had a chance).
No doubt they expect his name to sell it.
Out of the 4 films that have been made, T3 is most similar to Whedon’s style of action/comedy direction. I don’t want another T3.
Amen to that.
Rights are reverting back to Cameron in the future.
Something like a decade from now. A little too late.
Sitting here thinking about it… what could Cameron even do to revitalize the franchise? It needs continuity. I know the concept of time travel/alternate timelines. But this series deserves something more linear. I’d like to see the 20 years between T3 and TS. Or even a final showdown after TS.
Honestly, I don’t know if Cameron is even remotely interested in this series anymore.
With that being said, I’d like to see CAMERON’S future war played out (as seen in T1 and T2, not in TS).
Boy that’s the problem. Linearity. It’s a mess.
It really needs continuity more than anything.
I’d like to see the series wrap up. Its the problem with each film. No one has attempted to finish it. Keeps leaving open endings.
Pull an alternate timeline and alienate the last 2 films? Hell, let Vaughn direct it.
Sounds better than what we’ll likely get.
(My reply above was meant for you)
Why do some of the best movies make the least money? Cloud Atlas, Eastern Promises, Count Of Monte Cristo, Warrior, Redemption: Raid, even Shawshank Redemption of all movies
Because they aren’t “entertaining” as blockbusters.
You can add Dredd to that list. It’s a mystery.
Its really not a mystery. Think of it this way… why would I want to watch a sentimental movie/tear jerker/profound thoughtful movie in the presence of people I don’t know when I can do that in the comfort of my own home.
Dredd… yes. That deserves big screen and loud boom. But the fore mentioned? Or movies like Lincoln? No sir. Not one bit.
I love going to the theater. I don’t typically go for a tear jerker but I always go for big action or comedy.
Same here. Big action definitely. Things I can’t experience in my own home. Or a random date night with the wife.
@ L. Cheerio
Action especially. Even with a home theater, there’s nothing quite like seeing some movies on the big screen.
Correct. And the average person doesn’t have an 80 ft screen with 300+ speakers. I’ll pay $9.50 per person per viewing for that.
And a tragedy.
Ehh cloud atlas sucked imo
I think Fight Club bombed at the box office as well. But now its a cult classic. I was also pissed that Fantastic Mr Fox didn’t make a whole lot of money in 2009. Love that show.
Correct. Same with Big Lebowski, Boondock Saints, and a few others.
Did not know Big Lebowski bombed. That’s a shock.
So did It’s A Wonderful Life and Vertigo in first release.
Even though the budget to BO ratio is good. 15/45 million. It should have done 70+ IMO.
Cloud Atlas was a chore to sit through. Mess of a movie imo.
I agree with leathercheerio. Dramas like Warrior and Shawshank are best enjoyed in the comfort of one’s own home. I don’t go to the cinema to sit next to a bunch of people crying because “It’s not [Will Hunting's] fault”. I go to the cinema to laugh among a crowd, or to bask in the sheer awesomeness of good guys punching bad guys in the face.
That’s why I think movie-viewing as we know it is drastically changing. These smaller, independent films find most of their success through DVD sales or online services, while tradition theaters will start to lean more and more towards blockbusters and the kinds of movies people want to watch with others (action/adventure, comedy, horror).
I bought the “Hobbit” yesterday, and now I regret wasting my money.
While the “Hobbit” had great computer generated elements, the movie’s overall story was a complete bore feast.
I sort of had the same feelings as you. I think it’s because it doesn’t have the clean ending that the others have. It feels like putting a book down in the middle of a chapter rather than closing the chapter, similar to how on the extended version of FotR disk one stops just before the Moria attack. That was my concern with the stretching the film out as far as they were. I think once all three are out and can be watched together it’ll be fine.
“I think once all three are out and can be watched together it’ll be fine.” ~ Chiguy
I am hoping that as well.
I’m still curious what role Marvel has in mind for Vin Diesel. Please don’t let it be the voice for Rocket Raccoon. The voice of Groot, ok, I can see that, but not RR.
Vision. Vin Diesel is already 90% robot on screen. And he has expressed interest in the part. I just can’t picture Vision with Diesels voice. His face actually works pretty well for the character.
I was hoping Agent Coulson would be Vision, but I guess he can’t be if he’s in the SHIELD tv show.
^ My sentiments exactly. I really hope he is Vision… mostly because I’m praying that he isn’t Thanos.
me too, i think that stuntman in the avengers played thanos perfectly
Just how in the heck would you know that?
Me not so much…
… I hope they don’t give Thanos pupils.
I believe he’ll voice Thanos.just seems like a logical choice, though I wouldn’t be surprised if Marvel throws a curve ball at us.
He can voice Thanos or Groot, but no RR. His voice is is one thing, it’s his acting skills that concern me.
I think he be doing voice work whatever he does.
His price tag otherwise would be too high for Marvel.
Captain Planet = Toxic Avenger.
Hehe… okay I need this one drawn out for me…
I don’t even think Nolan, Speildberg, or anyone else for that matter can turn that into a good movie. They will probably get Tim Story to direct it…
… I hope your not calling Toxic Avenger a bad movie …
Correct me if I’m wrong, haven’t seen Toxy in a while, but wasn’t there a scene where a black guy almost rapes a blind woman only to get his arm torn off?
You see, now that is what I call character development!
I’m pretty sure the white guy in that group of ruffians also murders one or two innocent people in that scene.
Oh I’m pretty sure there was. I wasn’t trying to make it a race thing. I’m just not PC when it comes to describing people. I guess I could’ve said “the colored feller” LOL. I’m probably the only one who finds myself funny.
Actually, I can see how my response made it a race thing… but that wasn’t at all my intention.
Just having some fun talking about one of the more ridiculous scenes and premises that you will find on film.
Any else excited for Comic Con this year? I know I am…
Marvel has an impressive list of projects coming up. Would love to see a Guardians of the Galaxy panel.
You going? I couldn’t secure tickets, so I’m out this year. Guardians is the Marvel film that I’m most interested in.
I’m trying to get Zartan to cover for me so I can go make an appearance.
If there is a panel for GoTG it’s going to be pretty stacked. Del Toro, Zoe, Parks and Rec, Bautista, John C… maybe a glimpse and a sound of a now infamous raccoon…
… perhaps a look at Nova Corps?
That’s gonna be a wild movie, to say the least.
Maybe some more on Ant-Man, a Dr. Strange reveal where we will get some tasty concept art…
Hopefully some word on Thor 2.
And perhaps some signs of life from WB/DC.
Hopefully WB/DC will make some announcements. Doesn’t have to be anything as ambitious as Marvel “Phase 1″, but a “we’ve got a plan guys (and girls) and we’re working on it” would do hell of a lot in the encouragement department. Better than ambiguous rumors and denials.
I’d like that too, but I’m not expecting it.
Simply put, Marvel OWNS Comic Con. They really know how to get their fanbase riled up. When DC announced MOS at Comic Con last year, it was well received, but not as enthusiastically as the Marvel properties.
Remember when Smallville owned ComiCon?
Hmmmm, did it? I never paid attention to it (not a big fan of the show), as I was focused mainly on the movie properties.
Was the fanbase just as rabid as they are now for anything Marvel studios related?
Ive never been to the San Diego Con. Can’t find myself to shell out the dough. Plus, we have 2 huge Cons here in AZ that are just as exciting. So I’ve never witnessed if it was or not. But considering its ratings AND being the longest running sci fi series in TV history with eye candy to go along, I’m sure it was something else. And some videos from the Smallville box set special features seem pretty cool.
SDCC is crazy now, comparing it with how it used to be. Over 100000+ people fighting for the same panels and such.
I don’t know why I do it, and it is getting cost prohibitive.
Wonder if SR is going this year…
I’m pretty sure Rob K and Andrew D are. I was talking to Paul Y about it and I think he is going to.
I’m hoping WB/DC can capitalize some on any momentum from MoS at comic-con. Something showing a plan would be great. Something to continue to generate excitement.
I agree. But they sure are busy as we speak. They have 3 weeks to come up with something exciting. Ive seen crazier things happen in less time.
Any news on who might be playing Lex Luthor in MOS 2?
Mark Strong is the rumor du jour.
All bets are off. Lex may not be
featured next. Who knows?
I find that his british accent is part of why he is an awesome actor. British Lex Luthor anyone?
This may seem a bit out of left field, but I think Luke Goss would be the perfect Lex Luthor.
Gotta admit I didn’t recognize the name but based on his iMDB page, I think he has the look.
I agree with DMC. Definitely has the look at least.
@ Rocco Palmer
He’s been in some bad films, but not do to his acting. The guy can really act quite wel, I think he would do well.
Okay. They don’t need a big name for Lex.
Being a good actor with the look is what counts.
Not many people knew of Michael Shannon before MOS.
Paul Bettany would be my choice.
Nice one, Professor. Fine actor too.
Mark Stong. My god let it be Mark Strong.
I agree would be a perfect choice
You know he would deliver. Count me onboard.
Of all the names thrown around so far
Strong’s is the one that resonates best.
My gut reaction immediately was hell yes.
I’d rather him return as Sinestro. Without Sinestro, a GL world would be useless.
If they do GL again, IF, I think they will clean house on everyone.
Mark was the best of G, but I think we saw the last of that GL.
Mark Strong as Lex Luthor? Sounds reasonable, kinda seems like that failure of film called Green Lantern was a tryout for the new DC shared universe for him.
Refresh my memory, who did Mark Strong play in GL? Sinestro? Then I’m down.
Yes. He was the only highlight of that movie.
Bob Rock, you kind of look like Mark Strong. Just saying…
Not bad. I’ll take that.
I was never a Bob remember.
I’m not going to become one now
Rock, yeah — call me that.
That’s what I was and am.
If you were to change your name to Bob Palmar, I’d then be forced to call you Robert… LOL
I’m glad I was spared being a Bob.
No offense to any Bob’s out there but Rock was/is cooler.
I should clarify, I am known
to people in general as Robert.
Just family and friends know to call me Rock.
I was Rock, not Bob, growing up as I’ve
said and Rocky when I was little.
So, Rocco is cool? LOL
Yeah, Rocco is cool.
It’s a regal name in Italy.
I was called Rock, from Rocco,
but never called Rocco itself.
I don’t want to have to start calling you Chili Palmar.
Sinestro. He did well for the part.
Looking back on everything wrong about Green Lantern…
… Sinestro wasn’t one of them.
So I’m about to take a nap, finally got someone to.watch my son for a few hours. I’m going to watch 21 Jump Street. Does anyone else think that it was the funniest movie made in the last 2 years? Probably just me and my immature humor.
Isn’t that with Channing Tatum?
Now to quote you LC:
“Ugh… You’re dead to me LOL.”
CT I loved in that movie. J Hill I am still not a fan of but he was tolerable in the film.
It is hard to take a man seriously with the name Channing Tatum.
His name sounds like a specialty of the house on a Chinese menu.
Ha… I grew up with a cat named Channing (Trotter). He would’ve been a good kid if he kept his head up.
A lot of kids I grew up next to never made it very far. Some aren’t even here today. He is one that could’ve made it.
Man, what a story. Looking at his facial expression you
can see there is a guy underneath that could have made it.
Maybe this event can still be the big turning point to turnaround.
Leathercheerio, I totally have to agree with you. 21 jump street was funny as f***!!!
The first scene with Ice Cube when they enrol always makes me piss myself……
Funniest part of the movie.
Ice Cube’s performance was the icing on the cake. Turned a movie from a B rating to an A++!
I totally agree with you. Wasn’t expecting much when I watched 21 Jump Street in the last week of it’s theatrical run, but walked out laughing. Definitely one of the top comedies in the last few years for me.
Same here. I really dislike Jonah Hill and most of Apatow’s crew, so I went in with a sour taste. Left laughing as hard as I did after The Hangover and Step Brothers combined.
Lol….. Step Brothers was frigging so funny….. Left me in stitches….. Immature, but funny as hell….
This scene is funny…..
Sorry bad link…..
This should be ok
“Shush up Nancy! I have to get some more bread!”
Stupid, but clever comedy. It makes me smile ear to ear.
Who reckons that Star Wars Episode VII will be pushed to 2016????
All of the previous Star Wars movies have all been released in May and with the Avengers 2 slated for May 2 (?)…. Do you really think they would release SW in the same month?
The Avengers destroyed all movies in May and June last summer……
What ya think? Would Disney move SW to July? Maybe not cos Pirates 5? What about moving it for the holiday season?
I don’t think Disney cares too much. Wouldn’t it be smarter to be in competition with yourself than someone else? You’d win no matter what.
guys is there a chance civil war can be made in the marvel cinematic universe?
Looks like things may be going that direction, with all the “see where loyalties lie” talk about CA:TWS.
Keep in mind it will be nothing like the comics if it does happen. With the current roster it will be more like Cap vs Iron Man, than Civil War.
Agreed. It won’t be near as epic as the comic but cool nonetheless. I’m looking forward to Avengers 2. The first one was necessary but had IMO no character arch. It was just back and forth nitpicking. More fan teasing than anything.
Terminator 5 is not looking promising at all… I was already tired of the terminators going back in time to our present to assassinate someone… Part one and two done that story successfully. Part three while horrible but needed to take that final leap towards the future war! NOW! I’m sure everyone was expecting the scenes depicted from part one and two of the future war but with better quality! Terminator Salvation did not deliver that at all!!!
I would really just want them to trash out salvation and try it again at the future war time frame because lets be honest we’ve all seen terminators do what they do in our present time one two many times on screen…
The only reason I’d want to see Terminator go back in time is to locate and kill the creative team of Robocop which to do like a VS crossover movie where humans in the future war were using skynets own cyborg weaponry and combining it to human application after John and his rebellion stumble on the records of robocops research and development!!! I vote for that Crossover, I mean come on we already got 3 out of the top 5 biggest names to crossover already we need these last two.
Alien vs predator, freddy vs Jason, king kong vs Godzilla!!!
Still waiting on batman & superman, and Robocop vs terminator…
I can agree. Im not really lookin forward to another Terminator film if it’s the start of a reboot trilogy. I prefer the franchise move forward or not at all.
If only for shn1ts and giggles, then sure. But there hasn’t ever been a tease of that crossover.
Aboard the ship in Predator 2 is a skull of an Alien.
Freddy vs Jason, and Kong vs Godzilla were tacky IMO.
Batman and Superman at least have shared the same universe and have over 50 years of written crossover.
I watched the first Spider-Man for the first time in about…4 years.
I don’t know why, but I just got chills seeing everyone back. It started when Peter first meets Norman. Then when Uncle Ben appeared, “lectured”, and then murdered (probably the most powerful scene I’ve seen in a superhero film, just a tad above John Kent in MOS).
Quite a nostalgia trip
…and Macho Man Randy Savage.
I just feel so grateful for growing up in that era. I was 7 when it came out. I had no clue who Spider-Man was because we didn’t live by a comic book store. We saw it opening day and it was a truly sensational experience, lifted spirits from 9/11 and made me a huge fan.
As the years go by, I realize how near perfected the origin was. They cared about the character. It isn’t nostalgia that brings me to like it more than TASM. It’s the fact that it brings pure emotion that is brought by the actors.
+all the sticks of gum in the world.
I loved the Raimi Spider-Man films.
The new Amazing is not very for me.
Agreed. I never liked Spider-Man. Still don’t, really. But Raimi’s films turned me into a semi fan. I like his version of Peter and Spidey. Webb’s… not so much. And Andrew Garfield has that face that makes me want to punch him. Just so… ggggrrrrrrr LOL
Right. And yeah, Andrew Garfield.
The guy’s, well, kind of a dork.
I could like Tobey’s Spidey.
It’s not that he’s a dork. Nothing wrong with being a nerd, dork, geek and what not. I’m sure that’s not what you meant anyways. But, to me, he looks like an elitist. And that is something that I hate more than anything. He doesn’t seem humble or fortunate. Tobey captured that.
Yes, elitist. That’s it. A bit of a snob. There’s a distance there.
Tobey was a humble hero so you could relate and root for him.
Yeah. Garfield didn’t capture the essence of Peter Parker. Neither did Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben IMO. That whole scene involving the milk and Ben’s murder…it’s just sloppy. That whole origin was a terrible slop fest to me. Getting past that, everything seems fine. But it took up half of the film.
Bugs me even more that they dumbed downed why Peter let the thief escape. I don’t care if he’s supposed to be an a**hole at that point, Peter Parker would’ve stopped that robbery because they didn’t steal from him. He actually tried to steal from them. That wasn’t about responsibility, that’s about having common sense. It’s more like “With great power, comes a great need for anger management because I’m upset over not getting my chocolate milk because I didn’t have enough money and that automatically turns the world against me”.
Weekly Box Office Prediction Time:
1. Monsters U: So strong last week, no other family films.
2 or 3. WWZ or WHD: Not sure if Pitt > Channing Your Tatum
4. Man Of Steel
5. The Heat: Can Bullock still draw numbers?
Good prediction. I’ll stick with your take, and see how we do on Sunday/Monday.
Comics I would love to see on the big screen:
1. The Goon (which is in limbo due to funding). Please check out this great CGI trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zr_Ta6NS3-g
2. Sgt. Rock
3. Y The Last Man
4. The Umbrella Academy (Also in limbo? Not sure.)
5. 100 Bullets
6. Moon Knight
7. Animal Man
9. The Runaways
10. Sandman (DC Comics)
11. Batman Beyond
Y The Last Man… wasnt that meant to be made with Shia L attached?
Correct, my fellow Scranter! The last I heard, the movie could be given the green light for a 2014 or 2015 release.
I know little but word of mouth for the comic. But it did look cool. And I like Shia. He’s proven himself in some movies that he can be a good actor.
My fellow Scranter has been doing some reading.
I only read Sandman and Batman Beyond on your list.
I would endorse seeing either or both made into movies.
We can dream of Christian Bale years from now
coming back as the older Batman for Beyond.
In my teenage years, I read a lot of comics. Here is my list.
1. Fathom http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fathom_%28comics%29
2. Batman Beyond
I know I’m not original. But these would make great movies.
One thing that is almost always predominant, in a movie translating into life kind of way, is comedic taste. Judging by the kind of comedy you like to watch on screen, you can almost always get a feel on someone’s sense of humor. For instance, if you like Tyler Perry movies and think they are the funniest thing on earth, there is a good chance that we probably wouldn’t have much in common. Nothing wrong with that. But its true. As the saying goes, “each to their own”.
I like stupid comedy. I don’t have any other way to describe it. Adam McKay, Will Ferrell kind of comedy. I liked The Hangover. 21 Jump Street. I also like dark comedies like Very Bad Things, The Cable Guy, and Observe and Report. Comedians like Kevin Hart, Dave Chappelle, Mitch Hedberg (RIP), and Pablo Francisco are hilarious.
I hate comedy like Adam Sandler movies. Its Always Sunny, and How I Meet Your Mother are the stupidest shows to date. Jeff Dunham, Chris Rock, Larry the Cable Guy, and Jim Gaffigan can go jump off a cliff. Again, “different strokes for different folks”.
What kind of comedy do you Scranters like?
Bridesmaids was the only recent comedy I liked.
However, I hardly see comedies these days.
I might have liked the ones you mentioned.
I do like old school comedy, Mel Brooks
and even early Woody Allen, and I’ll
include early Jim Carrey as well.
i thought Porky’s was the s#!t back in the day, but i rewatched it a couple years ago on netflix, was boring. i like dark comedies like you mentioned, very bad things. i recently watched <Tucker &Dale vs. Evil, and i thought that was hilarious. i grew up watching Monty Python’s flying circus & Benny Hill, love just about anything with John Cleese (AFCW, & FC are 2 of my faves) I hate any tyler perry movies. i just find madea an annoying character. didn’t care for him in Star Trek ’09. I like standup. Jim Gaffigan is pretty good imo. i loved George Carlin, even saw him live twice. once in ’85 my Sr year in HS, and again in 92 or 93, front row at the Lousiville Palace, even got his autograph after the show on my ticket-stub (which is long gone now :< ). I just watched, earlier today, <John Hodgman:Ragnarok on netflix. that was funny. fyi, he is the guy who played the PC in the mac commercials with Justin Long.
I still like my raunchy comedies. i liked the 1st American Pie, the rest got stale for me. Ted, & Horrible Bosses are up in my faves. I didn’t care as much for The Hangover as everybody else did. it was ok. had some funny parts, but most of the best parts were in the trailer. Steve Carell in 40 Year Old Virgin is one of the greatest performances in comedy history, 2nd only to Planes, Trains & Automobiles…” Look buddy! If I wanted a joke, I’d follow you into the men’s room!”hillarity!
had 2 many mikes hard lemonade’s. look at all the <'s tryin to html type. lol.
Mike’s go down well this time of year.
It is easy to lose track of how many.
Scranters – it is Urban Dictionary official!
Thank you Rocco!
Ha! That’s awesome!
Fantastic! We’ve arrived. Pretty damn cool, I have to say.
Well done getting that up there, Professor. Well done, indeed.
Well, I watched another movie that people claim is great, only to find that I didn’t think it was all that: Singing in the Rain. Some of the song and dance routines were good but overall, I felt it was not that good. I also downloaded Snyder’s Dawn of the Dead and Boondock Saints.
lethercherrio, you’d better not let me down, or I’ll have to let you talk to the great Kahless.
boondock saints wasn’t all that for me, as much as everyone hypes up that film. it was good, but not awesome. for me.
i did like DOTD. that was a good remake, even paid some nice homage’s to the original.
The goddess known as Cyd Charisse grants it salvation.
She may have had the most perfect figure ever in Hollywood.
And no woman moved like her. Cyd was feminine perfection in motion.
i don’t understand how netflix runs. today, again, i scrolled thru all the “popular on netflix”, “popular on facebook”, “new releases”, and “recently added”. there was even a new “comic book superhero films” category, and not once did i see The Avengers. what is up with that? i would not have even known if it was on netflix had it not been for another scranter mentioning it last week (not that i am missing anything as i can watch my bluray anytime, but still!) i stream it thru my wii, as well as a ROKU xd. i cant believe they arent promoting that they are showing it.
I just checked and The Avengers shows up as popular on netflix.
